  1. I'm disappointed that it is only 4.
  2. I can't find anything online about that. I did find an article in SI Vault from 1992 in which Sparky said nice things about him!
  3. Sparky phoned Dick Williams, who was managing the Expos, to warn him about what he was in for...chronic lateness among other things.
  4. Need to hear more!
  5. Steve Kemp was in that group too...without Kemp there is no Chester Lemon.
  6. Howard Johnson was an exciting prospect for sure, after '84 I wanted to trade Herndon and put HoJo in left, but I think that Sparky just plain did not like him at all because of his bad defense at third.
  7. By the way, you don't get to count Gibson! He is from the Bill Lajoie hallowed era of the late 70's. The time period is 38 years and the headliners are Fryman, Higginson, and Granderson. It's sad that Infante and Santiago are the best home grown middle infielders of that entire time.
  8. That's a good list. I might argue about Ruben Sierra, I think the only reason he was here was that unless we took his contract the Yankees wouldn't take Cecil.
  9. I always thought that Al Avila knew exactly what to do, and tried to do it, but was terrible at actually doing it.
  10. Al Avila does not hold a monopoly on failing to develop long term every day players. Here is the full list for the past 38 years: Travis Fryman, Bobby Higginson, Curtis Granderson.
  11. Who is the red and gold? Spain?
  12. Anything is better than Angel Hernandez
  13. You were total agreement with Grossman's playing time, correct?
  14. Yes that's absolutely the reason, the ridiculous notion that they could get anything useful. I was ripping my hair out.
  15. Obviously, you were nodding your head with a benevolent smile every day when Grossman's name appeared in the lineup. Not everyone agreed.
  16. Baddoo and Clemens, obviously.
  17. Robbie Grossman had 73 at bats in July with an OPS of .562, with young developmental players on the bench. I was ripping my hair out. I suppose that some people would find a way to blame Aviia for that.
  18. Scott Rolen was a very good player in his prime, but I am kind of surprised that he got in. Lots of gold gloves and silver sluggers, and he's certainly more deserving than Baines or Morris, but although he hung on until age 37 he didn't accomplish much after his age 31 season, so his counting stats aren't that impressive. I think I like Whitaker's career better.
  19. Q: How does Larish/Munson/Fick look at third base? A: Moves well for a big man, has soft hands and a strong, accurate arm.
  20. I would have said it was much later than that.
  21. Good I hope Canada sends them too, fuck the Germans.
  22. I used to have a doctor who would say "are you feeling any discomfort?" And I would be thinking "you're fucking right I am feeling some discomfort".
  23. Yeah McHale and Smith publicly admitted that the park was designed for a "National League" style of play with, you know, triples and stuff like that. For a franchise that had worshipped generations of power hitters. They are the two biggest idiots that ever worked for the Tigers.
  24. Deep inside someone's rectum.
