They wanted him but not at Lindor money, that's crazy, he doesn't play often enough.

Wait...didn't the Tigers offer Correa 10 years? I thought that I heard that that was the only serious offer that he got, and he turned it down because it didn't have Lindor's AAV, which he wasn't ever going to get because of his injury history. So, what's all this about not wanting him for 10 years? Where is that coming from? Isn't that exactly what they offered him?

Yes, and that's why he will never get it. You're the GM, you go to the owner and you say we need to hire...this guy? With his resume? Never in a million years. There is only one Chris Ilitch.

Or you could admit that you just made it up when you said "some people seem to want that".

Chris isn't going to fire Avila. But if he did, he would absolutely fire Hinch too. The new GM picks his own manager. Chris isn't going to fire Avila. But if he did, a key reason might be the load of BS that Avila gave him about Hinch being a miracle worker.

"everyone is finally getting on board" In other words, you can identify some people who previously were not "on board", and who thought that Avila should keep his job. I wish you would because the rest of us are saying that no such person ever existed on this forum or its predecessor.

It's a fair question though, do you think that anyone here wants to keep Al? I don't ever remember anyone saying that.

Yeah when you see video of him he actually looks like a hitter, he looks so tall and balanced and his hands are in a controlled position for a short quick swing. I hope he gets back quickly.

I kind of believe the ho part. Not sure about the abortions though, that seems to be too convenient.

That's been the southern Ontario model for decades, cover as much of your building lot with house as you possibly can. Who needs a yard, or trees?

Jim Campbell said that his big regret was letting the '68 team get old. We have often remarked on how wonderful 1976 was with a team that was so entertaining to watch in spite of its losing record, thanks to Fidrych, Leflore, and Staub. Still on that team though, incredibly, were Freehan, Horton, and Stanley, 8 years after 1968. To give Horton his due his OPS+ was 117, but only once since 1969 had he played more than 119 games. To be fair to Campbell what was he going to do with Freehan and Horton, trade them or release them? They were gods, and in Freehan's case he was still the best in the organization at his position (although Bruce Kimm caught Fidrych). Campbell did trade Horton the following year, but not before giving him a curtain call...on opening day in 1977 he started in left field for the first time in years, to thunderous applause. After the game he was traded in order to open a spot for Steve Kemp. Clearly Campbell had that deal already made in spring training, but he brought Willie back one more time, for Willie and the fans. That was a big time class move by Campbell, who does not get credit for very many of those.

I see that photo and I laugh, remembering reading about how Tony Phillips and Pete Incaviglia would rough him up and stuff him into lockers and garbage cans.

I forget what my highest mortgage rate in the 1980's was, probably about 12% for 25 years fixed. Variable rates got up around 18%, so I was lucky to have chosen fixed. I used to listen to institutional investment managers back then who predicted a return to "hat-sized interest rates" and they were eventually correct.

Just go down under the bleachers, set the tee up for low and outside, and drive it to right center. 100 times. If Coolbaugh sees something, and Tork won't listen, then get rid of Coolbaugh he isn't persuasive enough. Maybe he should ask Miggy for advice, he always used the whole field.

He's not helping, that's for sure.

Ha ha, I think that hunting is an old man's game here. When I was in my early teens there was some interest in hunting in my age group, but I only know 1 guy who does it now. Probably a lot of those rifles and shotguns haven't been fired in 20 years.
-
Yes part of the reason Canada gets high numbers is because of hunting rifles and shotguns.

Meathead: Oh, and I suppose that there is one correct church, and it is the one that you go to, eh Archie? Archie: Well, I'd be pretty stupid if I didn't.

Don't worry folks, help is on the way. The Flying Tigers' lineup today had 6 guys with OPS under. 600. A great amount of optimism was shared here about a year and a half ago because of organizational changes in evaluation and development, inspired by Hinch as co-GM. But is it possible that they are now even worse at evaluation than they used to be?

Yes. He's got nowhere else to go. He doesn't have any more market value than Robbie Grossman.

That's the point, to get all this stuff recorded

I admire his enthusiasm, but isn't he overstating things a wee bit?
