I didn't mean that. I meant having 5 regular starter going 5-6 innings, with a couple of long guys instead of ONLY 1-inning guys, and using those long guys every time there's a 5-inning start, or an extra's game, or even in a rotation/ 6-inning game like I had it to save wear and tear on the 1-inning guys, etc... Your list of Faedo, Holton & Brieske is perfect, And, mainly... this is what I wanted to prevent (aside from saving W&T on the shorter inning guys): Agree 100%

Well... that died out quickly after posting... I must've jinxed it. But for the overall goals of 2023, I think there were more positives than negatives: 1) Let Harris see what he's got with this Org and do what he does: Check. 2) Is Kerry Carpenter for real? Yes, he's real, not pyrite. 3) Flirt with .500, not .350 (75-80-ish, not 60-ish wins: my goal): Check. 4) Let Harris, fix/ repair, goose-up, or generally complete the build-out of the Developmental Organization that this team needs to be. Avila couldn't quite get up to 100% (did he do 70% of the work but didn't understand how to finish the last 30%...? Just wagging a number here...): Apparently that's a check but proof will be over the next 10-ish years or so, starting with this year and next year and there's some positive evidence... 5) Fix all our broken bats and pitchers: Mixed. Tork and Greene both made strides at the plate... but Greene still keeps getting nicked up and missing games. Jake Rogers is fixed. But Baez's bat is definitely broken, perhaps for good. Skubal seems fixed, but Turnbull no, Mize not yet, and add Manning to the pile of broken arms Manning & Faedo did make some strides this year as evidenced by their 1.04 WHIP's). On the plus side: add Avila toys Olson & Gipson-Long and a Harris-special in Tyler Holton to our stable of good-looking arms. (I am not certain where Avila-late-round-specials Beau Brieske or Brendan White end up... but we'll see...). Baddoo, Haase, Schoop, Austin Meadows, and Cabrera are either out, or appear to be on their way, but new toys like Vierling, Malloy, Keith, Parker Meadows, etc., have either replaced them or are on the verge of doing so... I'll take the "Fixing our broken players" as more positives this year than negative. The icing on that cake is the positive strides that Jackson Jobe made this year. And I'll leave it at that.

Once every 3 or 4 days. Faedo on Monday, Holton on Tuesday, 1-inning guys on Wednesday... back to Faedo. I know it doesn't work out exactly like that... I'm just surmising here...

I'm almost adamant that the Tigers should carry at least two of these guys every year: one LH'er and one RH'er. Faedo would be perfect as the RH'er IMO (1st time facing batters: .567 OPS, 2nd time: .800 OPS). Lefty two inning pitcher: Tyler Holton (no 2nd time faced sample but has shown he can go 2-ish innings if needed... additionally, "1st time faced" data says OPS of .524 - promising...)

So... There's still a chance...?

I'd like one high level starter: Eduardo coming back or a similar level replacement. And one high level reliever. Some veteran who still has stuff and can maybe settle these guys down. Or show them a new pitch or two or a new grip. Whatever works...

The SIMPLE answer is that Ukraine is going to take ANY, and ALL, opportunities to attack Russian interests... in any form, anywhere around the globe... as payback for the Russian Nazi's attempted genocide against them.

I would have to be overwhelmed (which is not going to happen at this point) to be interested. I'm in the "just wait out the development curve" camp.

That's exactly my way-too-early viewpoint of 2024.

12 games to go and we're tied for the 8th spot (8-to-10th tied). Unless there's a big change in the last 12, we're finishing in the top 10, pending whatever happens in the lottery... That, and the crapload of kids coming up in the next two years gives me some hope that the Tigers can build something both "NOW" (2024-ish) and for some time in the future that gets this team out of picking in the top 10 for awhile, and hopefully into the playoffs on an annual basis. Starting next year for us dreamers... This team still has to sustain any future success with Draft & Develop though... So here's also hoping that Harris is the right guy to build a sustainable model for the Detroit Tigers...

That may be true... But I still like the idea of telling him straight up right after the season ends that "we will be phasing you out as a starter". Just the thought of that, being replaced by Short, or Kreidler, or Eddys Leonard... could spur a different decision. But you are probably right... No way he passes up that money for the free market at this point.
