5 5-3, rhe Wings have continued to play sloppy even after lead was cut, and there is a full 9 minutes left to go.
-
5-1 after 2, 2nd period goals by Larkin (his 2nd if the night), Fabbri, Kane and Fischer.
-
2024 Wings looking good so far. Scoring burst late in 2nd makes it 4-1 Wings, but the Kings just got one back on a disputed call. Nope, waved off!

https://www.lafbnetwork.com/jim-harbaugh-los-angeles-chargers-rumors-2/ Rapoport’s report adds another interesting layer to this. He indicates that the Chargers would look to pair Harbaugh with a general manager he could work with. Whether this means hiring Harbaugh before a GM to replace the recently-fired Tom Telesco remains to be seen. But that does seem to be part of the conversation behind the scenes.

Here are Ansar Khan's first half grades. https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2024/01/red-wings-first-half-grades-high-marks-for-new-additions.html I'd give Kane higher than a B+. I agree with Sprong's A-, he was one of the lesser heralded offseason signings.

Use the team to assess which players are above, at or below their expected points pace as we hit the halfway point of the season. https://www.espn.com/nhl/team/stats/_/name/det/detroit-red-wings Not really that many shockers in any direction, IMO.

So I guess decided by the state in the interest of public safety? So I guess conceivably that could happen to teams that play in domes? Incidentally, for the fans in the stands, it means instead of a full afternoon game Sunday it will now be played 3/4 after dark on Monday. Brrr.

Back to back games this weekend. LA Kings today at home, tomorrow on the road to Toronto. Lyon will start one game, Reimer the other, not sure of the order. From the Detroit News for tonight's game: Kings at Red Wings ▶ Faceoff: 7 p.m. Saturday, Little Caesars Arena ▶ TV/radio: BSD/97.1 ▶ Outlook: The Wings (20-16-5) and Kings (20-10-8) meet for the second time in nine days. The Wings won, 4-3, in a shootout, last week in Los Angeles ... The Kings are winless in seven games (0-3-4) ... RW Adrian Kempe (15 goals, 37 points) and C Anze Kopitar (14 goals, 37 points) lead offensively, and G Cam Talbot (14-9-5, .922 SVS) has been steady in net.

New coach of Alabama is …Kalen DeBoer. that’s good news for Sherrone Moore.
-
45 points at the season’s 41-game halfway point, so a 90 pt pace. 90 points won’t make the playoffs, will need more like 95 or 96, but not an insurmountable gap to make up.

Overtime loss. I would think 47-18 is probably the most lopsided the Wings have been outshot this year.
-
Somehow this game is heading into OT.
-
WIngs catch a break! That's the type of flukey goal Reimer has been letting in all year.
-
It was too good to be true. Edmonton finally has the lead like they deserve.
-
Oilers have only trailed for 8 minutes out of past 350 minutes.
-
Dazzling goal by McDavid ties it at 1, just when I was daring to dream of a shutout victory. 10 minutes left in 3rd.
-
0-0 after 2. I was surprised to see that the Wings have scored 11 more goals than the Oilers this year.
-
Big test tonight for the Wings against the streaking Oilers. For a change, the Wings should be rested, at least. 0-0 midway through 1st.

Not denying the Rams are a good football team playing really well right now, with deep playoff experience and a veteran QB. In fact, I feel like I did before the Rose Bowl - slight edge to the Rams just like I gave a slight edge to Bama. But the Lions belong and have a shot. I don't think the Lions' coaches and players are as psyched out as the fans are. Of all 14 playoff teams, the only two teams I'd be pretty relaxed about the Lions' chances would be Tampa or Pittsburgh. Every single other team, including the Rams, would scare me a fair bit.

Right. Came here to post something like that. And before the Giants game, two home wins by 8 points each over Washington and New Orleans. That's fine, but not necessarily intimidating. Only really impressive part of their schedule was beating Cleveland by 17 and losing to Baltimore by 6 in back to back weeks.

No Stafford tribute. No Wolverines tribute (although U of M players in attendance can be shown on big screen and cheered during TV timeouts). Sunday night is 100% about the Lions and their first home playoff game in 30 years. I’m not going to be cheering for JV, my favorite Tigers pitcher ever, if he pitches again in the post-season against the Tigers.

https://theathletic.com/5193516/2024/01/10/charlie-baker-michigan-ncaa-investigation/ PHOENIX — NCAA president Charlie Baker watched on television as Michigan football won the national championship on Monday night and came away impressed. During a meeting with a small gathering of reporters at this week’s annual NCAA convention, Baker said that the Wolverines were clearly “the better team” and won their title “fair and square”. At the end of the day, no one believes at this point that Michigan didn’t win the national title fair and square. So, I think we did the right thing.” Baker said he wasn’t conflicted about the outcome of the championship game, either, since he believes he took the right action in a complicated situation. Because the NCAA investigation centered on an illegal on-campus scouting and sign-stealing operation, the rules being violated could have impacted games still to be played in the 2023 season. Baker believed that Michigan and its conference deserved the right to act in the moment to preserve the fairness of the competition, rather than wait until the end of a drawn-out investigation process. It might affect the outcome of games, and I don’t believe, at the end of the season, that it did,” Baker said. “And I think that’s important.”
