  1. Exactly. I’d throw them a bone with a playoff series win now and then, but I’m terrified of what would happen if they went on a run. So better just to kill them off early.
  2. I’m still going to watch this 20 times.
  3. I felt a twinge of empathy going into OT but knew full well I would regret showing any compassion if the Leafs ended up scoring.
  4. Have to admit the sadistic side of my brain and my merciful side were duelling it out during the OT intermission. Can’t say I’m sad about the outcome though, but man, how much crushing losses can one fan base take.
  5. Annual rite of spring.
  6. Overtime in Game 7. I’m afraid the Leafs are gonna finally do it, I just have that feeling.
  7. Pearl Jam tour starts today and Monday here in Vancouver.
  8. Pius Suter of all people shoots the Canucks into the 2nd round. Helluva pass from Brock Boeser.
  9. I'd take a split of the next 6 games.
  10. Game 7 on Saturday. Joe Bowen vs Jack Edwards.
  11. I even saw someone on Twitter pointing to an awkward play involving Matthews in that final Saturday night game vs the Wings.
  12. 31 games into the season and the Tigers have only lost 6 games by more than 2 runs. Then again, they've only won 8 games by more than 2 runs. So more than half (17 of 31) have been 1-run or 2-run games. EDIT: that may not be that unusual. Seems that around 25% of MLB games are decided by 1-run, and around 45-50% are decided by 2 runs or fewer.
  13. I’m watching on TV on the MLB network but it’s about 3 pitches behind. Feed must be getting held up at the border.
  14. This is a great recap of the 1934 World Series, specifically the Medwick incident. Radio clips, video clips, shots of the Briggs Stadium bleachers, interviews decades later with Greenberg and others. Imagine if social media was around back then - Tigers win their first pennant in 25 years, take a 3-2 series lead, then lose the final two games at home including a Game 7 blowout.
  15. A month into the season and the Central is not as weak as expected. It’s not all due to everyone beating up on the White Sox.
  16. Bruins were one shot away from advancing but Woll made a big stop early in OT and, lo and behold, John Tavares went hard to the net at the other end and that resulted in a goal. Will need to put my celebration on hold.
  17. I'm a Tork supporter for the most part but he needs to be sent down for a stint.
  18. “You know when it comes to racism, people say: " I don't care if they're black, white, purple or green"… Ooh hold on now: Purple or Green? You gotta draw the line somewhere! To hell with purple people! - Unless they're suffocating - then help'em.” — Mitch Hedberg,
  19. Reminds me of a story about this elderly neighbour I had who was from Hawaii but living in Canada. I asked him on Canadian election day whether he was eligible to vote. He replied, "yes, I'm bi". His wife nudged him and said "you're dual, Ed, you're dual, not bi".
  20. What’s the Tigers’ record number of strikeouts in a game? Edit: as of 2023, it was Anibal Sanchez with 17. He did it in 8 innings. Broke Lolich’s record of 16.
  21. I think the Wings would have lost in 5. Most teams don't get swept.
  22. Tampa eliminated. I think their run of excellence is over. Two straight 1st round exits. I can definitely see them missing the playoffs next season. Stamkos gone? Had quite a run. In past 10 years, 6 conference finals including 4 SCF and 2 Stanley Cups?
  23. This is one of my very favourite non-Wings hockey calls ever. "Big shine, on the big mug" "And now a 24th Stanley Cup banner will hang from the rafters of the famous Forum in Montreal... the Canadiens win the Stanley Cup!"
