There is talk that MLB might cancel Jackie Robinson Day over fear of reprisals from the Trump Administration over DEI rules. I don't know that I'll ever forgive MLB if they did this. Stand up for something, Rob Manfred. Have a backbone. I mean, Rachel Robinson is still alive. What a horrible thing to do to her. Probably want to think about that part too.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
Motor City Sonics replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
Being the Tigers Centerfielder is like being Spinal Tap's drummer. -
To Live And Die in LA is the most underrated and underappreciated movie of the 80s. No big star in it (William Peterson and Willem Dafoe were unknowns then). Great car chase too. Even better than the French Connection (same director). Plot twist in the move that is VERY unusual for Hollywood movies. Look, I am not calling it a masterpiece, but it is highly underrated.

I should ease up on Tork. He actually did improve his defense last year.
-
I feel like they're better off just trading Malloy for someone who can play Center. Malloy just looks like a guy who will never be a good fielder anywhere, but not as good as Nick Castellanos at hitting. They have 3 DH guys already in Torres, Tork and Keith. Its so weird. All this time we have been looking for a right-handed hitting outfielder and now we don't have a legit left-handing hitting centerfielder. I mean Kreider? McKinstry? Ick.

It will the the year of close races (except for the NL West) Get ready to check and double check the tie-breaker rules. AL East 1- Boston 89-73 4-New York 89-73 Baltimore 85-77 Toronto 81-81 Tampa Bay 79-83 AL Central 3- Detroit 86-76 5-Cleveland 86-76 6-Kansas City 86-76 Minnesota 83-79 Chicago 57-105 AL West 2 - Texas 86-76 Houston 85-79 Seattle 83-79 The A's 81-81 Los Angeles 55-107 Dark Horse Team - The A's Surprise Good Tiger - Casey Mize Surprise Bad Tiger - Gleyber Torres AL MVP - Bobby Witt Jr, Kansas City AL Cy Young - Logan Gilbert, Seattle (Skubal's in the top 3) AL Rookie - Jackson Jobe, Detroit ALCS Texas over Boston NL East 2-NY Mets 90-72 4-Philadelphia 88-74 6-Atlanta 87-75 Washington 70-92 Miami 59-103 NL Central 3-Chicago 86-76 Milwaukee 84-78 Pittsburgh83-79 Cincinnati 79-83 St. Louis 78-84 NL West 1-Los Angeles 108-54 5-San Diego 85-77 Arizona 84-78 San Francisco 81-81 Colorado 57-105 Dark Horse - Pittsburgh NL MVP - (why bother) NL Cy Young - Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh NL Rookie - Gage Workman, Chicago.........just kiding, Bubba Chandler, Pittsburgh NLCS Philadelphia over Los Angeles World Series Philadelphia over Texas Yep, the Eagles and Phillies in the same year. But I couldn't pick the Dodgers, there's something too easy about it. Steve Cohen will freak out after not winning the Series in 2025 or 2026 and offer 60 million a year to Tarik Skubal. I really think the American League is a toss up between about 8 teams. An injury here, a surprise story there. Every race goes down the last weekend, except the NL West.

That is impressive I'll take 4 flukey goals and a win any day

And it's a much better option than Kreidler or Baddoo (whenever he gets healthy). If they thought Jones was the guy, it would have been him.

To me Tork has to make the team. They asked him to re-focus himself and he's done it this Spring. It might not translate, but what else can you ask of him? Can he hit 30 HR in a year? Yes, because he already has. Maybe staying away in the offseason cleared his head. To give up on him now would be ridiculous. Maybe putting Keith and Malloy at first base lit a fire under Tork's arse. The fact that they signed Margot to a one-year contract makes me believe that Meadows is not coming back for quite some time and that Perez will be the one on the Tony Packos Express once Vierling returns. The fact that Margot can play all 3 OF positions will be a big advantage for Dr. Frankenstein Hinch.
-
Since Jones isn't on the roster, I'd have to give the edge to Perez. I know his Spring was awful, but we have all talked about how sometimes Spring doesn't mean anything. I would also give Perez a nod over Malloy because Perez can play Center. Who gets lopped off the 40-man? Kreidler?

You know the joke "O-for-September". It was literally true for Oyler. He also went O-for-August too. In fact, his last hit that season was July 13th. O for 36 after that. He was the 3rd player the Seattle Pilots drafted in the Expansion Draft in 1969. Wonder why they failed, LOL. Nothing against him personally. He did *improve* to .165 for the Pilots.

Here's a mind-blowing fact. Bruce Rondon is only 34. Seemed like he played for us 20 years ago. How about the Tigers are part of the story of the glorious comeback of one time Rookie Of The Year Kyle Lewis !
-
You can lengthen a career doing that. Mickey Stanley was ahead of his time.

Oh those are SOOOOO MUCH FUN ! The doctor could have asked me We can do more of these nerve tests or we can stab you in the liver. My next question would be "How long would the knife be?"

Rotation Flaherty-Jobe-Mize-Olson-Skubal Bullpen Brebbia-Brieske-Foley-Hurter-Holton-Kahnle-Maeda-Vest Catchers Dingler-Rogers Infielders Baez-Ibanez-Keith-McKinstry-Sweeney-Torkelson-Torres Outfielders Carpenter-Greene-Malloy-Perez I guess that means they'll use Greene in CF (if they expect Vierling back soon) If they don't expect Vierling back soon, I would guess they'd find someone else's castoff or make a trade. You know what this means? It means Bad News for The Dodgers !

Or maybe fishing with his brother, out of baseball by 27

I was fearing Kreidler. Then they optioned him. I don't think Jones will do much, but I'd rather take a shot at the unkown than keep pretending Kreidler's gonna click becuase he had two good months - 4 years ago. Hopefully Vierling is back soon. I am fearing bad news - like really bad news on Meadows.
-
Is this the position roster? C - Rogers, Dingler INF - Baez, Ibanez, Keith, McKinstry, Sweeney, Torres, Torkelson OF - Carpenter, Greene, Jones, Perez,
-
A - They want him to prove it in games that count (in the minors) B - They want to wait until it gets a little warmer.

Driving with a load not properly tied down Love that movie. And it is a fair question. Who invented liquid soap and why? What's the point?

Who invented liquid soap, and why?

So, I have been extremely busy with work - Is Keith going back to 2nd base? - Javy will play more 3rd than Shortstop? - So where does Ibanez play vs. Lefties? - How bad is Keith at first? - Is Keith bound for DH duties, if Tork is back? - Who is playing Center? - Will there be a trade for another CF? If there is a significant trade does that mean the team does not expect Meadows to play for a long time? - What's up with Meadows? - How is Bonderman's change up looking?

What a glorious graph

Have you noticed the perp in interviews? Not a word about how the victim is doing. Only about how this effects HER. Not a stich of remorse. She needs to spend a few nights in jail, not a long time, but a few nights. She needs to be banned for life from track events. Sorry, I know it was a momentary lapse in judgement, but she cracked the girl's skull and it was 100% intentional. Should it ruin her whole high school and college track career? Yes, it should. This was brutal. Watch, schools will switch to plastic lightweight batons now - all because of this spoiled brat. And, I am sure that in the history of track someone, somewhere has used a baton to strike an opponent or jab them in the ribs, but it wasn't caught on camera. Side note - I was talking about this yesterday at work. How does anyone get away with anything anymore? There are cameras everywhere. In our neighborhood a porch pirate got caught because the cops went to every house with a doorbell or dash cam and tracked the guy right to his own house where they found dozens of amazon boxes. Ripping off his own neighbors. What a great guy. Most detective work now is probably looking at doorbell cams, security cams, traffic cams. And these cameras get better all the time. Going to be easier to spot details like tattoos, decals on cars and license plates. Part of that is scary, but it probably means fewer people get away with stuff. Privacy? Oh, that's dead and buried.
