It kinda makes me think of something Blake Griffin said when he was here, he was doing an interview and somebody asked him what it was like going from a city like LA to Detroit and he said something to the effect of "I practice, workout, play in games and any free time I spend at home staying out of trouble so it doesn't matter to me whether I'm in Detroit or LA it's all the same." Basically echoing the fact that atleast during the season that you live or should atleast live a pretty boring life if you are a pro athlete.

The US lineup is stacked then you see they are starting Merrill Kelly and you wonder about their chances. Its crazy that out of all the US born pitchers in the Majors he's the guy on the mound in the championship game. Shows how much stock most of them put into the WBC.

I like Anderson better as a player but I agree that Carter is a better fit and fills a bigger need so in that regard they'd probably would take him if they aren't concerned about his character.
-
Kiper still has Carter number 1 on his latest big board. I don't know what type of connections he actually has but he said something to the effect that from all the intel he is getting Carter hasn't dropped at all on NFL teams boards which is why he still has him number 1 on his. If there is any truth to that I think that's good news for the Lions in my eyes, just one more premium prospect that a team ahead of us might be interested in picking which could drop somebody like Anderson to us.

I think it would be enticing playing with the offensive players and coordinator we have. You'd be taking a risk knowing how durable Goff has been but if he were to go down you know you'd be in a position to succeed which in turn could lead to more money and/or a starting job in the future somewhere else.

I only heard clips of the interview but the clips they played he did double down on his stance that he heard that he doesn't give it all in practice which is what made him bring up that point I mentioned to try to balance things out for him I guess.
-
Mcshay did bring up one positive point about Carter on the radio today and that was that he injured his ankle mid way through the season and it caused him to miss a couple games, he was already considered a top 5 pick at that point so he easily couldve sat out the rest of the season like so many other top guys have done in the past instead he not only came back but busted his ass and played his best football of the season down the stretch.

The only thing Im afraid of is if he will effect our culture if the rumors of him being lazy are true, but if Holmes and Campbell draft him that tells me they have enough confidence he won't so that would be good enough for me.

Yeah I think that was the tweet I saw but looking in the comments of the tweet I see that a couple people brought up the point that it will be broadcasted at 8am on a weekday in Japan so even though they are crazy about baseball you would think that surely that is going to effect viewership.

2023 Detroit Tigers Spring Training Thread
RandyMarsh replied to RatkoVarda's topic in Detroit Tigers
Keith Law getting over his hatred of the Tigers as 2 out of his 10 breakouts stars of 2023 are Tigers. First one was of course Greene but second was a little surprise in Matt Vierling. He also added that he was very close to putting Tork on here too which wouldve made the Tigers make up about a third of the list. -
I saw a tweet last night that speculated that the championship game will be the most watched baseball game in history due mainly to the viewership in Japan. They showed numbers of previous big Japanese national games and they were close to the record but considering they're playing in the championship and against USA between their audience and ours it should top the record.

I keep hoping there will be some explanation that comes out that explains the whole Carter thing(not just the racing bit but how he showed up to Pro Day) because from an on field stand point I'd probably want him even more than Anderson if there were no off the field questions but unfortunately there are.

PFF put out their latest mock and they have us taking Jalen Carter, but what really caught my eye is that they had the Raiders trading up to 3 with the Cardinals and all they had the Raiders give up is 7 and a 100. If that is truly all it would take I'd be making the trade right now if I was Holmes.
-
Yeah that's a good call. I also remember another time in I believe 2007 where they destroyed the Broncos to get to 6-2 only to lose on the road again to Arizona which sparked a free fall. If I'm remembering it right we finished 1-7 and then of course went 0-16 the following year.

Ok my bad a 3 sack season the year you get drafted is indeed elite PRODUCTION from a number 1 overall pick.
-
I was talking relatively speaking, considering he was the highest graded de in 25 years you figured he'd have a higher production. Hell He only had 3 sacks his final year.

Football was the last sport I started following closely as a kid, my first experience with it was tecmo bowl so like everybody else I loved the Raiders and Bo Jackson so for my first couple years of my football fandom I was a Raiders fan. Then my Dad took me to a game in 91 and between going to a game live and watching Barry Sanders I became a Lions fan. Little did I know then that 30 plus years later that first year of fandom would be the high water mark for the Lions.

We also lost Suh in that 2014 offseason which kinda tempered expectations a bit for many.
-
I still say that GB game was one of the most lopsided officiating games I have ever seen. Suh was getting mangled on every play and not a single call was called infact there wasn't a single call all game against GB other than pre snap penalties like false starts or offsides.

Unless intel comes out prior to the draft that there is a good possibility of him dropping to us my option A is trading up for Anderson and pairing him with Hutch to wreak havoc on qbs for the foreseeable future. Also I think Anderson is versatile enough to help in other areas other than just being a pure pass rusher. Admittedly though Im just not as big of believer in guys like Wilson or Gonzalez as others are so Id be slightly disappointed if we "only" ended up with one of them at 6.
-
Yep, after I posted that I realized it said per game and not just a 500k bonus. Could end up making 10.5 million if he plays every game.
-
Nope it was a paycut. Perhaps there are some incentive bonuses in there but the base salary drop was 9 mill.

I still would like to see some more power out of him. This is a guy that broke Barry Bonds school HR record along with supposedly having 70 grade power coming out of college and thus far he just hasn't shown it. Yeah he's hit quite a few balls to the wrong part of the park that otherwise would've been HRs but I'm talking not just actual HR numbers but just seeing some legit bombs, something that you would expect to see relatively often from somebody of his pre draft reputation. From my memory the only true bomb I can remember him hitting is the one in KC at the start of the season last year. And yes a 330ft HR counts the same as a 500ft one does but seeing more long distance ones would make me more comfortable about his long term HR output. -

San Antonio won so we're now 3 games back of them in the win column, starting to look more and more like the worst record will be ours and a guarantee of a top 5 pick. -
Unless they are really high on Levis I don't see a scenario where they draft a QB at 6 cause he's likely the only one that is going to be there and even that's not a guarantee, which is just another reason why I hate the idea of drafting one this year. I mean why settle for the 4th best QB in a down QB draft when you really don't even need one now in the first place?
