  1. Btw Holmes didn't completely shut down the notion of drafting a qb in his presser today but sounds like he is committed to Goff. One of his quotes resonated with me and that was "it is alot easier to get worse at qb than it is to get better". Fans and front offices alike dream of getting that next Mahomes but you are far more likely to get the next Zack Wilson so when you have a more than competent guy in house who is still young maybe your best course of action is to try to do everything you can to win with him instead of using resources on an unknown commodity.
  2. The Sewell pick wasn't unexpected cause of his talent but we had more pressing needs than OT but he didn't care, he just went with who he felt was the best talent. Same with trading up for Jamo, while we could use a speedster at WR it wasn't the most glaring issue but again he didn't care, he had Jamo as the last 1st round grade on his board so he made sure to trade up to get him. You could also say the same about doubling down with Levi and Alim back to back,he couldve went another direction but he felt Alim was the best prospect available so he took him even though he just took a similar player the pick before.
  3. The Lions Packers game drew the highest SNF finale ratings in 6 years bringing in 23 million. Yeah you can point to the Packers but this wasn't the first time the Packers were on with major playoff implications and they never drew this high of number. Also earlier in the year the Packers and first place Eagles only drew 16 million so this was a major spike in viewership.
  4. As far as qb goes I just don't think this is the draft to do it in. Levis and Richardson do have the tantalizing upside but they also have too many question marks for me to feel comfortable using the 6th pick on unless Holmes and company have one of them clearly on the top of the board in which case you probably have to take them. My feelings though are that We're really close to getting to that 49ers and Chiefs territory where they had enough pieces to take a chance on Lance and Mahomes but were not quite there yet. If we nail this draft and next year make a run in the playoffs only to come up short bc of Goff's play then you can make a run at a qb in 2024. When you have a stacked roster you can afford to perhaps overpay to move up in the draft to get your guy. Unfortunately we're just not there yet.
  5. Aside from OT I really don't care what direction we go, I just want the best players independent of need. When you start reaching for guys to fill specific needs/holes that's when you start to get in trouble.
  6. The Red Sox of old would've jumped in on Correa with the Story news, perhaps they are conceding that this won't be there year even if they got him so no reason to sacrifice future payroll for him.
  7. Damn Goff was closer to Mahomes than anybody was to Goff.
  8. I also just want to add that I'm clearly happy with Hutch and I think he is the total package I also think it's too soon to write off Walker and Thibs and just anoint Hutch the victor out of the three cause we have to remember that Hutch was always seen as the most pro ready guy while the other two were more raw so it should be expected that Hutch had the strongest 1st year. Lets see in a couple years where things stand. I have a feeling that in the end all 3 teams will be happy with the players they got although some of Thibs actions on the field kinda concern me like making the "go to sleep" sign while the qb is getting carted off the field, but for now I'll just chalk that up to immaturity.
  9. I see it Sauce, Woolen and Hutch for DPOY and honestly I have no problem with that. Just about every other year Hutch would clearly win but Sauce and Woolen have been unicorns this year at cornerback and while Hutch has been elite the second half of the year he was pretty average the first half where as those two have been elite just about the whole season.
  10. Even Sheila was in the locker room for this one, Campbell gave her a game ball and said she is the best owner around. Yeah you're not going to talk bad about your boss but I don't think coaches before would have gone out of their way to put over previous Fords.
  11. Don't get me wrong I want him to stay but if he wants to be a HC it would probably be in his best interest to strike while the iron is hot cause you never know what tomorrow will bring. Right now he may be the flavor of the month in regards to the hot shot young OCs go but next year they're could be 4 or 5 new guys come along and he just gets pushed back in the line, especially if the Lions offense takes a step back next year.
  12. Texans have put in a request to interview Johnson. I know theres only so many openings so beggars can't be choosers but I hope for his sake he can land a better job than that dumpster fire of an organization.
  13. Hopefully Edwards doesn't decide to enter the portal now that Corrum is back.
  14. Amani was no doubt dreadful this year but he looked like a promising young player who made plays last year so Id be open to see if we can bring that player back out of him. It's not unheard of for young players to have a set back or bad year only to bounce back and considering the lack of depth there what would it really hurt to try?
  15. You never know who's going to make a meteoric rise in the draft so guys we think we have no chance at like Anderson and Carter could potentially fall to us despite it seeming like a pipe dream at this moment. I mean this time last year basically everybody thought it was going to be Thibs or Hutch at 1 and Thibs ended falling to number 5. So who knows, hell Anthony Richardson seems to be flying up the mock draft boards if he puts up a monster combine teams may fall in love with him and there could be 4 QBs off the board before we pick. You just never know.
  16. Interesting tidbit the Lions haven't lost on a Sunday since before Halloween so we made it through November, December and a couple weeks in January without having our Sundays ruined by the Lions.
  17. There is no mythical "momentum" that carries over year to year but what there might be is belief and motivation. When you feel like you're on the right trajectory and getting close to taking that next step it makes you want to put in that extra work that much more. It's much like how guys seem to perform well in contract years cause they go balls to wall in the offseason to make sure they are at their best because they are super motivated. When you have a team full of young players it's far easier to get them to buy in to hitting the gym harder and working harder when they see the results of doing so vs. going 2-15 or whatever. Again though it doesn't guarantee anything next year but finishing strong is certainly better on the morale than the alternative.
  18. BTW what happened to Bombers? Did he get banned or something cause I haven't seen him on here in a while. I figured he'd be on here basking in the glory of the Lions strong finish with us.
  19. It's BS that an 8-9 Bucs team is not only in the playoffs but gets to host the 1st round.
  20. Yeah there's no sugar coating Goff did not play very well(even though if you add that 75 yard Jamo TD that was taken away his numbers would look alot better) but he didn't turn the ball over and he made some big 3rd/4th down throws. If your QB plays like that in a "bad game" in tough conditions then you can live with it, especially if you have a strong running game like we have and should continue to have in the near future.
  21. I may be misremembering but I vaguely remembering their being conditions to the Hockenson trade like if Minnesota wins a playoff game we receive a better pick from them? If that is accurate this could be a good thing for us having them play the Giants.
  22. Yeah that timeout isn't going to come back to haunt us.....
