  1. One of the things that attracted me about Baez is I thought he could be a guy like that when he went on one of his hot streaks but of course that has yet to happen. Like Baez, Upton was known to be a streaky hitter and iirc he struggled the first 3 or 4 months his first year here but then around August he blew up and damn near carried the offense to a WC berth that year. Hopefully Baez will eventually do something similar.
  2. To me I like guys like Murray and Mathurin cause I think they offer the right combination of upside and floor. Its unlikely either is going to be an All NBAer but I think there is a relatively good chance they turn out to be a Middleton type. By that I mean not necessarily their skill or playset just how they are viewed as a player around the league and the Bucks have already shown you can win a ship with Middleton as your second best player.
  3. I remember when the top SS's started going off the board I feared that if we didn't grab Baez we may end up with somebody like Jose Iglesias. Well he could've been had for 5 million and he is currently slashing .320/.370/.395. No power but Baez isn't hitting for any at the moment either so atleast we'd be getting a good BA and OBP.
  4. Ha Bally's must have saw your post and wondered themselves cause they just showed the stat on the postgame show that in the last 40 seasons only JV in 2012 with a matching 2.15 and David Wells in 1993 with 1.85 have had a 2.15 or less through 10 starts.
  5. Back to back shutout wins for the Tigers! The Twins with a Tigersesque 5 hits and zero runs over the course of those 2 games.
  6. My first thought was maybe Anibal in 2013 but I went and looked and he got it to 2.38 after 10 starts but then got lit up in his 11th and never got it below that but still managed to finish with a 2.57 ERA.
  7. Right now his biggest competition may be Verlander. There's a couple others like Cortes in NY and Gausman in Toronto but I think at this point JV would be number 1 followed by Skubal and those other guys. edit: Going by ESPN's WAR Martin Perez from Texas would or atleast should be in the clubhouse lead he has been worth 3 WAR, almost 1 more than anybody else in the AL at this point.
  8. Wow that's impressive that this is already Skubal's 6th game of giving up no runs while going 5+ innings. That's over half the time he goes out he doesn't give up a run.
  9. Hittin or should I say Hoppin Harold goes way up to make the catch and get Skubes through 7 shutout innings!
  10. With all the positivity going on in this page I feel bad posting something bad but I just saw on the Bally's crawl that Manning has been shut down due to a "bicep tendinitis" diagnosis. Not sure what the time table is on something like that.
  11. Schoop makes it 5-0 with a double of his own.
  12. Hittin Harold with a 2 run double! 4-0 Tigers!
  13. Ive read from a couple places that Houstan may have been promised a selection by one of the teams in the back end of the 1st. I see no other real explanation since I've seen him mocked as low as the end of the 2nd round.
  14. Haha i forgot about that, well that explains the lack of check mark. He had like 5000 followers so even though there was no check mark I thought it may have been legit.
  15. I just got a like on Twitter from Gary Carter so whatever happens in tonight's game is just gravy to me.
  16. Could we see the return of Smokes at 77 years young? Without looking Id imagine Larussa is a similar age so I guess it's not impossible in that regard.
  17. Whoa after our 4 run outburst last night Hinchie is now going in for the kill by having Dos Castro batting 1 and 2.
  18. Its starting to seem unlikely if you are to believe the mocks but I still really like Mathurin. He may not have the upside of a Daniels or Sharpe but I think he has a better chance of hitting his ceiling while maintaining a higher floor. I like Murray for much of the same reasons. To me now that we have our perceived superstar or number 1 its not as important to swing for the fences, if we end up with a plus starter to borderline All Star that is fine with me, what we can't afford to do is completely whiff on it and end up with a Killian Hayes like return.
  19. We better not get shut down by a guy named Bailey Ober. On a related note, perhaps it's just cause I haven't been following the rest of the league as closely since the pandemic or its just cause of all the injuries but I never have encountered so many pitchers and players for that matter that I never heard of before. In the past it was a rarity for that to happen but now it's a regular occurrence.
  20. Yeah with the amount of close wins we have if the bullpen was bad or even average we'd be way worse off right now. We'd probably be on pace to threaten the 03 Tigers for wins if that were the case.
  21. A Dombrowski built team with a terrible bullpen? That can't be right!
  22. Seeing Clemens in the stands of a baseball game reminds me of that scene in The Office where Michael thinks he saw Johnny Depp at his condo complex only for Jim to mock him for thinking that which makes Michael say "remember how you were so excited when you thought you saw Roger Clemens?" to which Jim responds with something like "Seeing Roger Clemens in the stands of a baseball game sounds a little more believable than Johnny Depp at your condo complex."
  23. Flores threw 3 shutout innings today with 3ks. Not sure why he only threw 3 innings considering his count was only at 41 but scouring twitter I see nothing about an injury so hopefully they just are monitoring his innings right now or something.
