I remember back in 2010 he IBB'd Cabrera 3 straight games in the 9th, and all 3 times 1B was occupied and he was the winning run which completely went against conventional wisdom. It of course worked out cause Boesch shit the bed all 3 times. I think that was the real genesis of the whole "we need to get Miggy some protection" movement which eventually led to us getting VMart that offseason.
I actually forgot about Faedo, yeah it's a shame for him that his injury happened when it did cause IIRC he was starting to look alot better towards the end of 2019. If he didn't get hurt in the summer of 2020 I imagine he would've been called up in that COVID season for the Tigers.
I mean to be fair on paper we did improve a lot up the middle. We went from the Castrai manning 2B and SS to Baez and Schoop. We also expected Greene and Hill to be manning CF instead of Baddoo and Reyes like last year.
He did, I believe it was the very next game or next appearance after we thought we had something with Fulmer as a closer. He struck out the side while throwing triple digits, I remember Lynn singing his praises and all of us being overjoyed...then the next night or outing that happened with Santana.
Jeimer got off to a brutal start in the COVID shortened year and last year he only had a .660 OPS in April before turning it on both years so I'm not worried yet. He appears to be a guy that takes longer to start seeing the ball.
I just saw in the background that KC scoreboard posts the launch angle and exit velo on balls. I haven't been to a game in a few years, is that common place in parks now?
Yeah it was a little low but it wasn't a huge drop off like you see if it ends up being something major. Like he was still touching 96 on the TV gun, so the optimistic in me wants to think it isn't something too severe but I guess you never know with pitchers.
Please somebody with more medical knowledge than me talk me off the ledge! The laymen in me wants to think that elbow sprain sounds like an impact injury like a ball off the elbow or something but I really don't know.
If the rest of the guys start hitting I think you can afford atleast 1 black hole in the lineup if he can save some outs and in turn pitches for our young pitchers. Plus smalll sample aside Hill did put up a 95 OPS+ last year in 150abs so it wasn't like he was completely terrible. If he could hit near that and provide plus defense I would be fine with him until Greene comes back.
It's especially troublesome considering the lack of K's from our staff. If we were a high swing and miss staff that didn't allow a ton of balls to be put in play you may be able to mask some of defensive deficiencies but when you're only getting 7 or so K's per game that is depending on a lot of outs from fielders.
I know he's not a top superstar but I brought up Milwaukee cause of Holiday but I forgot that they traded for him, I was thinking he signed there as a FA.
I just think that the whole market thing gets overblown, guys have gone to huge markets but they also have spurned them or outright chose to leave there like Harden just did with Brooklyn. Also look at KD signing with GS, yeah I know the Bay Area is more desirable than Detroit but did KD really choose to go there cause the location and weather or cause he wanted to play with a great team and win a ring? My guess is the latter.
Here's the list of guys attending the draft live. Matt Corral is potentially playing with fire here, perhaps the NFL put out feelers ahead of time and he may indeed be going relatively early or they just wanted to publicly embarrass him while he sits in the green room the whole first round.
Also I think we could attract star players if we were winning, when OKC was winning guys wanted to go there, same with Cleveland with Lebron, Milwaukee now and so on, I think guys nowadays care more about winning a championship and overall team success than the market they play in.
