Yeah I noticed that. It's funny all offseason mlb writers talked about wanting more teams to "go for it" even if they weren't contenders on paper and they shouldn't care about the bottom line then when a team does just thattheir colleagues write up about it, says they're not smart then poke holes in their plan and break down everything in dollars and cents.

I know the Rays are a smart team, perhaps the smartest but that doesn't mean other teams including the Tigers are stupid.(despite what some fans lead you to believe) I'm sure the Tigers analytic and scouting departments went over a number of scenarios including signing Conforto and they came to conclusion this was the best one and probably not just cause they want an immediate impact player likeClemens suggests. Also he acts like the Tigers don't have this same "basic" info that he used (put it in quotes cause the metrics he used are basic compared to what mlb teams have access to these days) at their fingertips and didn't take any of it into account. Idk the whole write up just bugged me cause it came across like the Tigers are stupid for thinking they can contend and just traded away some valuable player on a whim without doing their homework.

I wonder if everything goes smoothly to start the year in terms of guys being ready to play real games if they will go to shorter spring trainings in the future? It always seemed like they played too many games and didn't need that much time so this year could just be a confirmation of that.

I'll do my team predictions later but here's my award predictions. AL MVP-Luis Robert(pains me to pick a White Sox but I just have a hunch he's going to be great) AL Cy - Alex Manoah AL ROY - Tork(Strong class but going with the homer pick) NL MVP - Juan Soto(overcomes team struggles) NL Cy - Walker Buehler NL ROY - Oneil Cruz

I remember the Mize draft where many experts thought he was so ready he could help a playoff team that year say that we could've gotten a King's ransom for the pick if we were able to trade it.
-
Iirc we either traded one or received one in the Sanchez deal with the Marlins way back when. I think that was the first year it started. Edit: thinking back Im pretty sure we traded it cause I remember in Keith Law's write up(hates the Tigers) of the trade he was complaining about us getting the pick in the first place cause of our then high payroll.
-
Id prefer a pick in a different draft but if all we can get is a lottery pick in this draft Ill settle for that for Grant. Not a rhetorical question but is there any reason to believe his value would be higher if we waited and traded him at next year's deadline?
-
Not counting trade downs and just pitching things that could realistically happen... atleast if the pundits rankings are similar to teams, I think my option A is going with 3 GA guys with our first 3 picks. Walker, Cine and Pickens. Pickens is coming off an injury but I think he is the perfect WR that we are looking for. Big, physical, plays on the outside and has some speed considering his size with his 40 reportedly being in the 4.45 range.
-
McShay has us now taking Walker, Ridder and Dax Hill with our first 3 picks. I'm starting to like Walker and would be perfectly fine with him, I'd be content with Hill but would rather have Lewis Cine who he mocked a couple picks later but again I don't understand the QB pick at 32. I don't know if it's just lazy mocking, guys see that we likely don't have a long term QB so they just lazily throw a flawed one at us at 32 or if they actually are getting intel that the Lions are serious about taking one there, hopefully for our case it's the former.

Paredes has always had a good K/BB ratio which is something that I think a team like Tampa looks for to go along with good contact skills, he just never had the power or "loud at bats" you look for in today's game especially for a guy that isn't going to be playing up the middle. Perhaps Tampa sees some untapped power there or they think they can shoehorn him into 2B.
-
I suspect Madden isn't going to be there that long, good place for him to start but I think he will carve up Single A hitters with relative ease or atleast I'm hoping that is the case.
-
This is a good point, not necessarily a good or bad thing but you rarely do hear about the Tigers "being close to acquiring" or "in talks with" when it comes to players the Tigers actually acquire. It's like all the sudden you just hear the news that they acquired a guy. This goes back to the Dombrowski days as well, it's like out of nowhere we would get a Sanchez, Price, Iglesias etc. Now there have been times where people speculated that we might be interested in somebody and we got them but that was usually just people throwing out names wildly and they just so happen to come to fruition.
-
lol got a laugh out of this. This stemmed from Rosenthal's tweet that said we were acquiring Meadows but didn't say for what which prompted multiple Rays fans in the thread to think that Tork was part of the package.
-
Don't know if this will be the order but discounting that it looks a helluva lot better. Since 2020 was the COVID year where opening day wasn't till the end of July this really is only a 20 month difference and not the full 2 years too.
-
RE: CHicago, they lost Rodon from last year and now Lance Lynn is out 6-8 weeks so their rotation may not be as strong as it was last year and could potentially be a chink in their armor. Of course they were also without Eloy and Robert for a good portion of the year last year so their offense should atleast theoretically be better to help offset that.

Waiting for Paredes to pull a James Harden and suddenly show up to his new team 75lbs lighter after it was revealed he was wearing a fat suit the entire time. Seriously though great trade, it of course concerns me trading with TB but even if they find something in Paredes and he becomes good there as long as Meadows plays well for us I really won't care. Also that Adames trade with the Brewers last year doesn't look so hot as of now so perhaps it proves that their front office is indeed human and do make mistakes just like everybody else.

The Wordle (and such) Thread
RandyMarsh replied to Crazy Cat Gentleman's topic in General Discussion
Wordle 289 4/6 🟩⬛🟩⬛⬛ 🟩⬛🟩🟨⬛ 🟩🟨🟩⬛🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Even though you get 6 tries my goal of late is to get it in 4 or less. To use a golf analogy I treat 4 as a par, 3 as a birdie, 2 an eagle(done it twice I believe) and 1 as a hole in one. Like in real golf I've yet to get one in Wordle. -
With how many good qbs have been demanding trades of late who's to say we have to get our next qb in this or next years draft? If Holmes builds up a good enough roster around us, in 1 or. 2 years if one of those guys comes available maybe we could be the ones that they ask to be traded to.
-
Green has been pretty impressive scoring wise lately but even with him scoring like he has the Rockets are still playing better with him off the court. He's basically living up to what people thought he would be and that is an elite scorer but doesn't bring much else to the table.
-
Some folks are speculating that NO is positioning themselves to try to move up and grab a qb this year. Would you take their 2 firsts and their 2nd(49 overall) for number 2? Birkett says that according to the ole chart that is a little light but if you don't really love anybody at 2 and want to pick up extra capital perhaps you would be willing to "lose" the trade according to what you normally expect to get.
-
Great data and list, it appears that with a couple exceptions like Giannis and Steph you're not going to get yourself a defacto number 1 All NBA guy in the mid to late lottery but you still can get All Star caliber guys. With us hoping that Cade can be our All NBA getting one of those All Star caliber players would be perfectly fine with me.
-
Damn I love that trade for the Eagles. Let's cross out the 19th and 18th pick for simplicity sake. They essentially traded the 16th for a likely higher 1st next year, a 3rd and a 2nd. Even though the 2nd is 2 years away its still a big asset. Also with 3 1sts this draft they could afford to give up one now for one in the future this way they don't put all their eggs in one basket in this draft. They will now be in prime position to move up and take a qb next year if/ when Hurts fails.

All Campos does is hit HRs.... when he isn't locked away in some secret location.
-
Seems like Willi smelled blood in the water in terms of making the team with Greene getting hurt, has a HR today pushing his OPS to near 1.000.
-
Yup, Id rather have 6 innings of shutout or 1 run ball than 7 of 2 or 3 if the extra pitches from Ks produces the 1st outcome so be it.
