  1. I worked at my Step Dad's auto shop when I was like 12-15 but my first "real" job was as a cashier at Kmart when I was 16 back in 1998. I remember they hired a few of us at the same time, all 3 of us were 1st time employees in the real world but since I wrote the experience I had at my Step Dad's shop the HR dude that hired us said he'd give me 6 bucks an hour unlike the 5.50 they were giving other new employees. THe only time in my life an employer offered me more money than I was expecting to receive. lol
  2. Yeah there's nothing wrong with Inheriting a bad roster so long as you have a GM/owner that recognizes the situation and allows you the time you need to build your team. The problem is people like Sheila are the exception, too often owners want immediate change and don't give you nearly enough time to turn things around. In that regard it does suck to come into a depleted roster.
  3. BTW the number 1 overall prospect is Roman Anthony from the Red Sox, they got him in the 22 draft with the comp pick they got for us signing Eduardo Rodriguez.
  4. Damn you Edman, beat me to it! lol
  5. Baseball Prospectus put out their top 101 today and 7 Tigers made the list. Jobe was 4th overall followed by McGonigle at 6!, Clark at 31, Rainier at 56, Liranzo 58, Briceno 64 and Jung at 97.
  6. Unless it changed I think you have to not only have 10 years of service but also have been with your current team for 5+ years to get guaranteed trade protection.
  7. Here's BA's rankings for international prospects. They have Rodriguez 4th. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2025-mlb-international-prospects-bonus-board/
  8. Yeah I'm sure there are other benefits to drawing fouls but just speaking from a vague offensive standout it always bothered me when somebody would talk about how efficient a scorer is when they just look at their total points and FGA. If you didn't include FTs then yeah that's a great way to see how efficient they are but factoring in free throws it doesn't tell the whole story. For arguments sake lets say none of the free throws are and 1s or 3 pointers, if a guy shoots 20 free throws then that still means he was responsible for 10 possessions.
  9. Vikings finished 0-4 against the Lions and Rams and 14-0 against everybody else. Crazy!
  10. This is kind of an off topic argument but since Cade doesn't shoot many free throws I figured it has some relevancy. I know many people like to look at how many points you score by FGA to measure a player's efficiency but one thing that always bothered me about that is that while free throws don't count as field goal attempts they still count towards possessions. So whether you attempt a FG or shoot 2 free throws either way you are contributing to your team's possession. To simplify it if a guy doesn't get fouled once but shoots 10 FG and makes 5 for 10 points he generated a point per possession that he shot. OTOH if a guy shoots 10 times and gets fouled every time and makes 8 of 10 free throws he will have generated 8 points on the 10 possessions he shot. But going by the metrics they will see he scored 8 points without a FGA so he will be deemed more efficient even though he actually netted his team less points per possession that ended with him.
  11. Feels like this is the 5th or 6th time we've played the Knicks already.
  12. I mean you never know who is going to come along or how different the game may change but there's nobody playing now that will come close to that. They'd have to not only be premium scorers but play for teams that consistently were in the conference finals or NBA finals for 15+ years. The likelihood of that is almost zero. Now if the NBA were to extend the playoffs or individual scoring would go up drastically then the chances increases but I don't see that happening in this generation. Maybe a decade or 2 down the road but not soon enough to alter any current players chances.
  13. I know it's a losers mentality but since I think no matter who we would face in the NFC Championship Game should we get there isn't going to be easy I think about who I would hate to lose to if that were to happen. I don't want to see Stafford and the Rams go to another Super Bowl cause then all we would hear about is how great the trade worked out for the Rams and how smart McVay is. The Vikings I would hate to see go just cause I hate them but also it would be frustrating knowing that we beat them twice already but the game they won ended up being the one that took them to the Super Bowl. So the Eagles win by default in this case in my eyes. I may change my mind depending on how the two teams look tonight but I thought the Eagles looked beatable after watching them against the Packers so I don't think they would be clearly tougher to beat then a healthy Rams team or the Vikings who we will see for the 3rd time.
  14. xFIP hurts him due to his flyball rate and HRs allowed but the numbers show he was unlucky with his HR number. His expected number was 12 vs. the actual 15, that doesn't seem like a huge difference but given he only pitched 90 innings that is enough to make a noticeable difference in stats like that. Also his expected HR numbers would be alot lower if he played in Detroit, his HR rate would've dropped in half at Comerica vs. Minute Maid Park.
  15. I'm sure some fans were clamoring for somebody like Verlander due solely to nostalgia reasons but many people wanted him back because they thought he could still be a good pitcher. He is just a season removed from posting a low 3s ERA and even last year his peripherals pointed towards him being in the high 3s which is more than serviceable for a back end starter.
  16. I'd actually like the Lions to come out and try to play more conservative on defense and force Daniels to beat you from the pocket. Getting pressure on him only to flush him out of the pocket plays to his strengths, make him prove to you that he can make the tight window throws from the pocket.
  17. Having Anzalone back is a big help against a running QB like Daniels, we got picked apart a bit by Caleb and Josh Allen cause we had Campbell spying on them and none of our other LBs could cover sideline to sideline. Now if we try the same thing with Daniels we will atleast have one of Anzalone or Campbell there to help in other parts of the field.
  18. Love can make the "wow throws" which enamors the NFL media, they focus more on the highlight plays that you are capable of but not enough about excelling at the "routine" plays.
  19. I actually like that 4th and short play by the Packers. It's essentially a QB sneak but instead of risking your QB getting hurt you have your bigger and stronger TE run the play. Also by keeping Love in the Shot gun position and waiting till the last second to put the TE in motion and under center it makes the defense play more honest instead of just stacking the line against a sneak.
  20. Since I'm endorsing him that surely means his career is probably doomed now but I gotta say in the handful of times I watched him this year Bo Nix has really impressed me. Not even the statistics just his demeanor and poise out there, doesn't come across as a rookie at all. Of course he played like 10 years of college ball so that could be why. lol
  21. The trade was still dumb(unless he turns into a top tier guy) but maybe people were too quick to blast the Panthers for taking Young over Stroud. Young looked pretty good after becoming the starter again, meanwhile Stroud has regressed big time this year.
  22. One of my biggest gripes in recent HOF voting is how Johan Santana dropped off the ballot after one year. I hate defending a Twin but in the first decade of the 00s it was him and Halladay who were considered the best pitchers in baseball. His career ERA+ of 136 is better than guys like Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux and even Sandy Koufax. Now I have no problem with him not being in it, it's just the fact that he got so little support that baffles me. But then again I always put more emphasis on a player's prime than their total numbers.
  23. I guess the good news is that this will make back to back years that an SEC team didn't win.
  24. I will pull for ND and deal with my sister in law's gloating, after all my brother/her husband and my Mom are UM grads so she had to listen to our family the past few years.
  25. God the thought of ND/OSU makes me sick. My sister in law is an ND grad so I either have to listen to her gloat or see OSU win. Both nightmare scenarios for me.
