Week Eleven: Chicago Bears (3-7) @ Detroit Lions (7-2)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
So far we've handled our business against teams that we should beat with both our losses coming to playoff teams but seemingly every team loses atleast once to a bad or mediocre team so I wouldn't be shocked if they lose one of the two to the Bears. If not them then maybe a team like the Broncos. Either way the pessimist in me is expecting atleast one loss to one of those sub par teams just cause that is what history tells you in the NFL. -
Yep then next draft with Cooper Flagg we will drop......or even worse before then Weaver will trade an unprotected 1st and we will in turn win the lottery.

Haven't watched any of Bagent, should we hope to face him or have Fields come back from his injury? -
Actually after thinking about it more I prob shouldn't have said no way they'd not get in as 1 loss Big Champ cause there is a realistic scenario where that prob doesn't happen. That would be Bama winning a close one in the SEC Championship and Washington winning out. In that case I could see them taking UGA, Bama, and the unbeaten Washington and Florida State teams over a 1 loss Michigan team.

This week's game against Maryland is probably pointless in the long run aside from playoff seeding. Whether they win or lose they still are going to have to beat OSU to get to the playoffs unless something drastic happens to other teams. Even with a loss Maryland Unless they completely crap the bed and get blown out I see no way they miss the playoffs if they then beat OSU and finish as a 1 loss Big 10 champ, no different than if they finished undefeated.

Week Ten: Detroit Lions (6-2) @ Los Angeles Chargers (4-4)

I think it's fair to say that Jamo may not be the best fit for the team, atleast in terms of consistent targets. Aside the fact that the Lions like to run the ball more than other teams they also have a legit number 1 who gets a ton of targets in St. Brown, an emerging TE who Goff loves in LaPorta, another guy he has a connection with in Reynolds and now a receiving weapon out of the backfield in Gibbs. After that there just aren't that many targets left. Still though you'd hope that he could atleast make an impact by catching a deep ball every couple games or so. If he started to do that consistently that would make teams respect him alot more when he is out there. -
What a shocker, a team trades for Harden and they immediately get worse. I just read that the Clips are -67 with Harden on the court thus far while losing every game. I wonder if he will make it to the end of the year before causing a major distraction and alienating another team?

I guess I always just assumed guys got that regardless of the pay of their next job, I didn't realize that wasn't the norm.

It's not predictive cause there really isn't a skill to being a top red zone offense except maybe being extremely effective in short yardage situations like Philly is, that's why it constantly changes week to week and year to year. Also it's such a small sample that just a small number can make a major difference. If the Lions scored 2 more times they'd be in the top half of the league. Also another thing to keep in mind is that not all red zone trips are equal. Sometimes you start in the red zone right at the 20, other times you may start the red zone at the 1 yard line after a getting a big gain. Depending on that can alter your success rate as well. -

Last year they were 4th in Red Zone offense under the same coordinator cause the fact is that stat is completely volatile and really not predictive of anything. If you can coach an offense outside the 20 you can coach an offense inside of it. -

He looked fine but we didn't trade up and use a top 10ish overall pick on a guy for him to just make a couple short catches a game and be a good downfield blocker. -

I think right now the over/under for total wins should be 12.5. Assuming they don't suffer any horrific injury(s) namely to Goff I would be satisfied and not overly surprised with 13-4, would be elated and pretty surprised at 14-3 and would be over the moon and extremely surprised if they ran the table. On the flip side Id consider 12 wins to basically be "Par" for me, wouldn't be satisfied or necessarily unsatisfied just kinda meh, 11 would be a bit disappointing, 10 really disappointing and anything under would be a complete collapse. -

With Texas AM firing Jimbo Fisher today I'm already seeing a bunch of stuff about them going after Dan Campbell. He is an alum so in that regard it makes sense but would be unusual going from the NFL to College without essentially being forced out of your NFL position like Harbaugh basically was in SF. -

With Minny starting to roll I wonder if one or both of our games against them will be flexed to prime time? I guess since we are on Prime Time against Dallas in between them they likely wouldn't do both cause that would mean 3 straight night games but I wouldn't be surprised if 1 of them were. -

I remember being 6-2 in 99 after beating Warner and the Rams were then 6-1 and the story of the NFL. We then proceeded to go either 2-6 in the 2nd half of the season and lost in the WC round to Washington. -
Sorry Baltimore nobody is safe from my jinx, the moment I point out how well a player or team is playing its a safe bet that things are about to go in the other direction for them.

That was probably painstaking listening to it live if you werent watching since the crowd was like 50/50, normally when you hear the cheers you know by that what the outcome is but in this case you couldn't tell if the cheers were because he made it or missed it until Dan makes the call. -

BTW remember this game in the future if one of Campbell's aggressive calls comes back to bite us and people in turn bash him for it, his aggressiveness probably won us this game. -

I'm hoping it's just cause he is still having lingering issues from the injury but Branch seems to have gone MIA ever since coming back from the injury. Those first few games he was seemingly involved in every play but not so much anymore. -

Was gonna bring up the terrible St. Brown spot on 2nd down but turns out it may have been a blessing in a disguise as it being 3rd and short helped set up that TD play. -

Wide open cause Barnes was being held to the point his jersey almost got ripped but nope officials didn't see that.
