  1. Seager, Semien, and Story all signed for more money than Correa, and Baez for that matter, so those GM's all misread the market?
  2. But the thing is, it's reported no other team offered him what he wanted. If the Tigers offer at at least $275 million was a lowball, then why didn't he sign a $300+ million contract? If no other team was offering more than the Tigers, it seems like they read the market just fine and all indications are no team was offering more. I would also be shocked if the Tigers offer didn't include an opt out after two years at the latest. You even mentioned uncharacteristically healthy since Correa has a bit of an injury history, the Tigers offer is a safe offer that probably still allowed him to chase a larger deal.
  3. But the Tigers offered Correa more money than anybody else. All the top free agent SS signed for more total money than Correa so I guess the Tigers, along with the Rangers and Red Sox misread the market as well. It seems Correa misread the market as he thought he was worth more than he was.
  4. How is it a failure by Avila to read the market? It seems quite opposite. Correa wanted Lindor money but the Tigers reported offer of $275 million was the highest. Considering it's reported no one went above that, it seems Avila read the market just fine. Other teams filled their SS positions so Correa, not getting the $350 million he wanted, opted for the short term contract to re-enter free agency.
  5. I think a lot of teams would have given Correa the same deal as the Twins did. IIRC the Tigers offered Correa more guaranteed money than any other team. They moved on to plan B and Correa ended up with this Twins deal. I have to imagine if this deal was on the table when the Tigers negotiated with him, they would have done it.
  6. Jeff Luhnow is still available. If you were fine with Hinch, you should be fine with Luhnow. I say fire Avila and hire Luhnow.
  7. I find it surprising the last two people who attempted to assassinate a sitting US president are currently free.
  8. His up season in Detroit is still a losing season.
  9. What has Hinch done outside of Houston, who continues to be a contender without him, that would make teams fall over themselves to hire him?
  10. I could see Chris doing what Mike did 20 years ago and hiring a Dombrowski type as president and letting him fire the GM and manager.
  11. What always got me is the Tigers fired Dombrowski for his right hand man Avila. If you didn't think Dombrowski was getting the job done, why would you just switch to Avila? Mike was alive for that. I'm not sure if that was his decision or not but it's like when the Lions fired Millen only to just promote Mayhew. Granted Dombrowski was much more successful than Millen.
  12. I remember when Octavio Dotel called him out on his leadership. Even during the good ole days, I just assumed people like Verlander were the real leaders of the team.
  13. Mike was a bigger slumlord than Chris. Mike promised a whole mess of development around Comerica. He owned all the vacant buildings behind the Fox that he left to deteriorate to the point where the only option was to tear them down. He even tore down the Madison-Lennox hotel to make room for a parking lot before the Super Bowl despite people wanting to develop it. Mike gets a free pass because he saved the Fox and spent on the teams. Don't forget, Mike had owned the Tigers for 10 years when they lost 119 games in 2003 and had losing seasons in 12 of 13 seasons prior to 2006. I could certainly do without the whole Illitch clan.
  14. Really? Being a deadbeat dad is overall low for the party that once claimed to be the party of morals and family values? I wonder how much child support walker owes....
  15. The Twitter post said he hasn't acknowledged his son which is true. Now that is has come to light, he has acknowledged it. The real issue is that Walker has not been involved in the child's life while he simultaneously preaches about absentee fathers.
  16. This started off about Herschel Walker having a son he didn't acknowledge and became what about Joe Biden who didn't put out a stocking for a grandchild he may or may not have. You seriously going to go there?
  17. Are these the same tabloids that said Ted Cruz's father assassinated Kennedy?
  18. I'm afraid to ask, but what the hell are you talking about?
  19. Someone has to fill me in on the Grassley thing. Is it really suggesting that Pence was going to get whacked? Is that why Pence refused to go with Secret Service? I keep envisioning the scene from Goodfellas where Karen meets Jimmy and he wants to go in the sketchy building to get a new dress.
  20. They list him as a TE which is interesting.
  21. Refreshing myself on the bullpen, only Phil Coke had a better flyball percentage than Benoit that year (of course if you exclude Porcello). Benoit had never given up a HR to Ortiz, and was the Tigers best reliever. It was a fine matchup, however, I would have went with Phil Coke. His only role in life was to pitch to David Ortiz. Anyways, Veras threw 3 pitches and gave up a 2B. He had been pretty bad with the Tigers up until that point. They weren't really backed into a corner. You are asking your best reliever and closer to get you a 4 out save. Benoit was pitching the 9th no matter what. He literally just needed to not give up a HR. I will take the last word. Nice chatting with you.
