2022 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD
Motown Bombers replied to chasfh's topic in Detroit Tigers
Refreshing myself on the bullpen, only Phil Coke had a better flyball percentage than Benoit that year (of course if you exclude Porcello). Benoit had never given up a HR to Ortiz, and was the Tigers best reliever. It was a fine matchup, however, I would have went with Phil Coke. His only role in life was to pitch to David Ortiz. Anyways, Veras threw 3 pitches and gave up a 2B. He had been pretty bad with the Tigers up until that point. They weren't really backed into a corner. You are asking your best reliever and closer to get you a 4 out save. Benoit was pitching the 9th no matter what. He literally just needed to not give up a HR. I will take the last word. Nice chatting with you.- 3,276 replies

The terrible matchup was their best reliever with a four run lead who up until that point never gave up a HR to Ortiz . Benoit had the same groundball rate as Smyly did that year all though Benoit was a little more susceptible to the HR than Smyly but his HR/FB ratio was still pretty decent that year.- 3,276 replies

He was not horrible that year and was pretty good that year. I suppose you could make the case Smyly was a better reliever that year but Benoit was without a doubt the best reliever available unless you favored the matchup of Coke vs Ortiz. Either way, it's not much of an ask for arguably your best reliever to not give up a homerun.- 3,276 replies

Literally every reliever brought into the game gave up a baserunner. What reliever, who couldn't get outs, should Leyland have stuck with? I guess you could make the case for Smyly since he only walked the only batter he faced. I suppose you could have made the case for sticking with Scherzer until he blew out his arm or finished the game.- 3,276 replies

I would have went with Phil Coke. The only reason Coke was on the playoff roster was to pitch to Ortiz. Coke had dominated Ortiz up until that point. The worst possible outcome, which did happen, would be a tie game. You then go to Benoit no matter what happened with Ortiz. Still, every reliever brought in gave up base runners and your closer and best reliever should be able to preserve a 4 run lead.- 3,276 replies

Yeah it was probably a bad idea to bring in your best reliever against their best hitter with 2 outs in the 8th up 4.- 3,276 replies

It wasn't that long ago that interest rates were at 6%. The SCRA, which was passed in the mid 2000's under the Bush administration, capped interest rates at 6%.

Working in a bank, a lot of people in the origination side have been laid off. I think most of them understood it was going to be temporary.

I remember hearing about the story of Peter Popoff who is a Christian faith healer. He was even exposed as being a complete fraud and he just regrouped and continues his scams. I couldn't help but see he and Trump are one in the same.

I just want to be clear my vitriol is for all of organized religion not just Christianity and with the exception of the Chruch of the Fonz.

At this point, I would be surprised if Watson plays this year. After alienating Mayfield, Houston may have two top 5 picks this year.

A recent poll had Carl Marlinga leading John James in MI-10. I believe it was a liberal leaning poll. I'm not hopeful but at least I know who I'm voting for in the primary.

What I hear you saying is that in Canada you can effectively regulate guns, reduce gun homicides and still hunt? This seems like a magical place. Let me guess, you're going to also tell me that if you happen to get shot by the one of these guns the government will also pay for your medical care?
-
The US has significantly more guns to people than Canada or Europe. The US is three times higher than the next highest country which is Canada who just moved to essentially ban handguns.

I remember a lot of people celebrating, mostly blacks, when OJ was acquitted. Whether they thought he was truly innocent or not is another matter.

And yet, when the Republicans did that with Benghazi and Hillary, Democrats had their purity test and she lost.

I'm confused why the Democrats didn't just steal the election in Florida? This way, you only had to steal one state instead of 2 or three like Georgia and Arizona.

Barr's testimony is better than I expected.

The best part is, while that was happening, in Phoenix a bunch of white people were chanting to count the vote where Trump was losing.
-
They're playing the instances Trump said the only way he would lose is by fraud. Liz Cheney still voted for him.
