I'm not suggesting it should be, but making an observation that outfielders today are hitting for the same average that backup middle infielders did in the past. I suspect other stats are down, too, like OPS, runs scored, though I'm too lazy to look it up.

you'd just like to see Jace's batting average higher, but everything else looks about right based on his pre-draft profile. Good OBP and power potential. Just looking at hitting stats in general, including at the ML level, should we reset our expectations about what good looks like? It seems like a .270 batting average was pretty pedestrian, especially for a good hitter, but now that seems less achievable. Is .250 the new .275?

They might demote someone from Toledo to Erie.

I suspect he has to really show at Toledo to stay in the organization. He’s taking up a spot on the 40-man and there might not be room for him after this season.

Keeping a player like Englert is what this season should be about. Players with potential getting playing time. I’m not sure what his upside is, but he’s shown flashes. Ideally, he’d be developing in AAA, but that’s the price to acquire a talent for free (or $50k). A bummer he had to take his lumps yesterday, but he’s in the bigs, so hopefully he recognizes the opportunity he has been given.

He’s pursuing other opportunities.

And against all odds—every member of our starting rotation has missed time to injuries and our entire OF that broke camp was on the IL at the same time. A very good team would have struggled with all of that.
