Probably not alone since that is a big difference for sure. Maybe being traded or on a winner motivated him more ? I think Fetters pretty good so wouldn’t think it’s because of better coaching. Hard to say.

Well we can offer the top pitchers money, a pitchers ballpark, solid analytics to keep him at the top of their game , a young up and coming team and to turn lemons into lemonade tell them Rodriguez preferred Detroit over LA to the point of refusing a trade. Detroit can get anyone. There isn't any handicap except the self imposed ones. Again "why not Detroit"...and oh yes the best damn fans in the game !

Petzold made a very interesting comment about adding Maeda and treating him well to open a door to more over seas Asian pitchers. We should consider that for Maria or Yu. Texas did that a few years back with Darvish and it worked so well they were on Ohtani's first list of seven options and still are now. In fact I think Texas or Seattle will land Ohtani rather than the favorite Dodgers.

Philly never used the Wild man in pressure situations and he sat virtually all of the post season so I think that's easier than closing for Detroit.

Yamamoto is worth the overpay and we have the cap space in my humble opinion. Failing that Imanga is a very excellent consolation prize.

Yamamoto is 25 and every MLB team should be in on him. Why not us ?

Obviously I am in the minority on the board with this issue because despite all the very valid points made in opposition to mine I just see it as an opportunity to win a championship in a profession he has trained his life for in return for a couple months "inconvenience".

Yes you are correct but it's 8 weeks. As a pro isn't winning a lifetime goal ? my point is the family can come or stay. His profession requires him to travel so it's not something new. Your points are very valid and I don't know his situation but I sure would not pay someone 80 million who shied away from the post season.

But he won't go to LA for 2 months and pitch in the playoffs. Why would anyone want someone who doesn't want to pitch for a playoff team ? And don't say family. It's summertime, schools out and he can put them in a beach front condo for two months on his salary. That's a holiday. I am happy he is gone.We can do better.

I have to say Harris's comments yesterday have me a bit concerned about the teams lack of willingness to spend in free agency at the high end. Todays Newspapers seemed to validate the same not that they ever really know. I hope it's mostly posturing because this seems like the free agency class to land at least one top shelf starting pitcher.

Woke up to some good news today. Mark Cahna is a very solid addition to this team for all the reasons the board has already pointed out. Best of all it shows Harris/Detroit is looking to actually win now. No way we trade an improving young pitcher for a 35 year old making 11 million if he was still rebuilding. Seems clear they like Verling at 3B (waiting for Jung or solidifying it for himself-developing at both levels), Keith at second base (platoon with Ibanez) , Mallory in AAA practicing his outfield play, concerns about Greene on the IL to start the year, and Carpenter on the trade block. Worst case we flip him at the break for equal/better what we traded for him. But I doubt this happens because we ARE contending next year. Now go get 2 STUD starters in free agency. Replicate what the Rangers did with Seagar and Semien but with Yamamoto and Nola ! Or at least Gray and Imanaga. Then we are in business.
