Eliminate the off days would help and since it is a tournament seed all teams by record before the tournament starts with division winners being the tie breaker. Regular season should mean something. Then reseed after the first round and top four teams get all the games at home again. Yes five straight. Deference to the regular season again. Last two rounds the team with the best record gets four home games if their regular season records are close. If difference is 5 games or more give them 5 home games.

Austin was declining as a player in his last year in Tampa and now after two full seasons of basically not playing it's doubtful he will/can return. Struggling in front of large crowds seems counter productive. He has earned well during his career. IIRC he recently had a child so he should retire and enjoy his family while taking care of his challenges. The Tigers have been more than good to him but if they wish to help with his medical care and provide access to his brother and the field for exercise then that would be great. Personally I think Tampa should step up and lend a hand as well. He gave them many good years and to just leave it to Detroit is bad form. Perhaps they are/will.

I think we will see Maton 2.0 next year and why not if we aren’t adding infielders to keep the spots warm for Keith and Jung. I doubt both start the year in Detroit. But if Maton fails again then he will be done.

The snow birds are up north in the summer and down south in the winter which is why football has better attendance than baseball. But still 19000 for a playoff game should get the franchise moved. Disgraceful.

Third for me after Cobb and Greenberg but can’t argue with Fourth after Gehringer. -

You are probably correct about Westbrrg but they can use pitching. I don’t think Mayo is any better than Keith at 3B which to me it’s Westburg or pass. Baltimore is deep in talent. They lost 100 games only two years ago and won 100 this year. Maybe take it all. I see this and it makes me angry we lost so much time with Al. If we had kept Paredes. Darn!! -

Manning and Baez for Xander Bogaerts ? Thats 100 million in salary relief for the Padres. -

I like Baltimore's Jordan Westberg. He's young, right-handed and can play excellent third or second so whichever Keith can play he's got the other covered. Not sure Baltimore would trade him but they are very deep with infielders. -

I also love Yamamoto. Not going to be an easy get though. My customers in Tokyo say Cashman has been living in Japan and their money's on NY but hey they are also just baseball fans like us. As for Hader he is the best. Not sure about the mileage on his arm and at $100 million it would suck to have a Diaz like repeat like the Mets. But if 1984Echoes gets his wish I won't complain. And we do have the $$. -
I hope this is an active thread over the next few months so we can get our Baseball fix. It's always a sad day when the Tiger season ends.

Feels weird and sad like moving to a different state or graduating college. You know good things are ahead but that warm fuzzy is over. -

Can we extend that to Badoo and Carpenter in the field ? Four runs donated today. -

Hard to get a read on Scot Harris for me but it seems we need to get aggressive with our personnel decisions if we are going to make the next step up. Do we trade from our "core" to get players that fit better. In other words do we trade players like Carpenter, Keith, Jung, Holten, Foley, Manning and Rogers who have trade value for players that can actually play a position of need defensively AND hit? For an example a player like Jordan Westberg from the Orioles (who are deep with infielders) would solve second or third base on both sides of the ball. Hard to trade your best prospects but it's possible their value will never be higher. Ditto with relief pitchers and perhaps Rogers and Carpenter. I like Rogers but his control is waning and catchers have lots of trade value. Is Carpenters' power for real and enough to justify poor/ iffy fielding yet he should have good trade value this off season. Will he next year ? Signing 25 year old Yamamoto would be bold and $$$$$...I doubt Harris has the nerve for that but if he plays it too "safe" we might only muddle along. Our biggest assets going forward remains Tarik Skubal , injury prone Riley Greene, Fretters magic and CASH. We need to keep the first three and spend the other wisely over the next three off seasons. That and making the right decisions on who to trade and for whom is our ticket. -

And when McKinstry did get on base it seemed he was often running into outs....The Dodgers aren't stupid. -
Always trade on the high note with relievers I think.

I think Soto is a free agent soon so no to him and all the high priced Padres for me. That team is under achieving big time. Not leaders in my book. Pass. -

Hopefully they are collectively just tired having played so much at the MLB level, especially Carp-Tork-Verling, but it is concerning all the same especially Carpenters power drought. We still have a long ways to go and Greene's frailty has to be assumed when planning this off season. -

Just tuning in. So McKinstry on twice..once caught stealing and once picked off so a McStinky special. I hope Hinch's love affair with him ends next year.Third on the team in AB's despite a .643 OPS !! -

Does the longer the quote mean the less they can field ?

Lange can’t control his fastball. Isn’t that enough to know he can’t close ?
