  1. Yes you are correct but it's 8 weeks. As a pro isn't winning a lifetime goal ? my point is the family can come or stay. His profession requires him to travel so it's not something new. Your points are very valid and I don't know his situation but I sure would not pay someone 80 million who shied away from the post season.
  2. But he won't go to LA for 2 months and pitch in the playoffs. Why would anyone want someone who doesn't want to pitch for a playoff team ? And don't say family. It's summertime, schools out and he can put them in a beach front condo for two months on his salary. That's a holiday. I am happy he is gone.We can do better.
  3. I have to say Harris's comments yesterday have me a bit concerned about the teams lack of willingness to spend in free agency at the high end. Todays Newspapers seemed to validate the same not that they ever really know. I hope it's mostly posturing because this seems like the free agency class to land at least one top shelf starting pitcher.
  4. 8 million a year also ! Yea
  5. So Austin Meadows will be a non tender ? And why do we have to wait ?
  6. An omen of things to come ??
  7. Man if your the last team standing your the Champ. Simple like that.
  8. Woke up to some good news today. Mark Cahna is a very solid addition to this team for all the reasons the board has already pointed out. Best of all it shows Harris/Detroit is looking to actually win now. No way we trade an improving young pitcher for a 35 year old making 11 million if he was still rebuilding. Seems clear they like Verling at 3B (waiting for Jung or solidifying it for himself-developing at both levels), Keith at second base (platoon with Ibanez) , Mallory in AAA practicing his outfield play, concerns about Greene on the IL to start the year, and Carpenter on the trade block. Worst case we flip him at the break for equal/better what we traded for him. But I doubt this happens because we ARE contending next year. Now go get 2 STUD starters in free agency. Replicate what the Rangers did with Seagar and Semien but with Yamamoto and Nola ! Or at least Gray and Imanaga. Then we are in business.
  9. A giant among men and one of my favorites. I have a helmet, bat and ball with his signature and a picture of him leading the clubhouse celebration after the 1972 division championship clincher with his and many other's signature. What a dandy platoon with the Gator for Billy Martin.
  10. Which makes ERod vetoing that trade even more painful but it makes sense they will revisit the discussion with hopefully a better return for Detroit for Skubal.
  11. Well that's a fair and good question. The reason is three fold : 1.) You have to give up something of value for Tatis and SD needs to replace Snell cheaply since they want to cut salary. 2.) Tatis is a star and we do not have one plus he makes our offense legit. 3.) We do have $$ to spend so Yamamoto / Nola / Snell "Gray replaces Skubs OR we are following the new path of 4 to 5 inning starters and deep bullpen relying on Fetter and development for starting pitchers saving money for hitters who can catch the baseball.
  12. Bogarts might even be worse than Baez given the extra money and years. In comparision should we consider ourselves "lucky" with El Mago ?
  13. Yes but it's fun.
  14. It’s math. Tatis is 340 million and Baez is 100 they save 240 and get a cheap asset like Skubal which replaces the need to spend more$ for pitching. Actualy it’s more possible for Bogarts since he disappointed but not sure we want him.
  15. Only if they take Baez as part of the salary adjustment. Something good plus Baez for Tatis . Skubal and Baez ? Thats 240 million saved for SD. Tatis is 340 million through 2034 and suspended once and I think his arm is hurt limiting him to the outfield. It's a BIG step for Detroit.
  16. AZ shows that solid defense and pitching wins.
  17. Perhaps jinxed for trading away the perfect ?
  18. I thought Wencel got the yips throwing from 2B and they moved him to the outfield. I could be wrong. Also I thought Keith was settled on second base which is why Jung is playing third in the Fall league. I don't see Jung in Detroit next year given Harris promotion record. So that leaves us looking for that magical third baseman for 2024 until hopefully Jung has the position down defensively.
  19. That's good to hear. So do you think he is our most valuable pitching asset in the organization or is Skubal say over the next 3 seasons ?
  20. The Turnbull situation is interesting. Apart from him not being very good it's clear Harris wanted the second year of control for trade purposes I think. But considering Turnbull seemed to do everything possible to get those five days of service to be a free agent after next year and failed. So now we have an unhappy pitcher. I wonder if Harris should have just called him up late September to get those five days and in result have a motivated player next year heading into free agency instead of a pouter. As G2 stated until he pitches well it's a wasted roster spot and money.
  21. If we trade Skubal I want a player that has established themselves in the major leagues. We are too thin to lose our star arm for "potential" that doesn't work out. Just sign Yamamoto and add him with Skubal and Jobe in 2025.
  22. The Rangers were opportunistic in their free agent approach. They saw Seager and Simean available and got them early when most teams hold back waiting for the “perfect” time. The perfect time is when opportunity knocks. This year it’s a 25 year old stud pitcher in Japan. Don’t blink. Just recruit and pay. Yamamoto makes us a contender. Balls to the wall Tigers.
  23. Yamamoto is 25. Dodgers Giants Mariners consumed with Ohtani. Yankees and Mets high payroll. we have cash to burn so Mr Harris and Hinch be in Japan when the clock strikes 12.
