  1. Yamamoto won't get 30 mil per year. Quite possibly 20/year but it will be 200 million + posting fees so 250 million all in. Maybe too rich but he is 25 and Jobe is coming and Skubal is here. Why not ? Our payroll is what $80 million or so after Maeda. If Jung , Meadows and Keith stick thats six starters ( Greene- Carpenter- Tork) making low dollars for years. Now is exactly the time to add one large contract and a 25 year old free agent stud pitcher comes along once every blue moon. It is exactly the definition of "calculated risk" Harris has talked about. I think we are in the hunt for Yamamoto is a MAJOR way..... my opinion.
  2. Very solid signing on his own at only two years. Health is a concern but when healthy he's pretty close to "Love's Detroit-bye,bye Eddie " statistically and way way less money. Cahna and Maeda is a good start to the off season...now spend that Miggy $$ on Yamamoto !!!
  3. So Utley but not Whitaker ? How do they compare and does Utleys case affect Whitaker going forward ?
  4. Would 2/yrs 30 with third year option for 15 and 3 million buyout be acceptable ?
  5. Forgot about him. Yes that would be great as well.
  6. Yamamoto - Lugo- Maeda- Wacha - Severino - Gray (loss of pick would hurt ). two of these would work nicely.
  7. Well ok we have room for Shoei somewhere....
  8. Willie threw 150 innings in 1984. Let that sink in.
  9. I hope Mr. Harris is in Japan to knock on his door at 10 pm Tokyo time.
  10. I’ll take the 8 million. Seriously.
  11. IIRC after rehabbing for a very long time Turnbull missed a minor league start for a toenail. Nuff said.
  12. Hard to believe Austin Meadows won't be.
  13. Probably most accessible player. Tork had quotes after almost every game. Beat writers need content.
  14. The Padres are looking for a first baseman and are cutting salary...just saying.....
  15. Perhaps his illness is why they started spending so much ala Mr. I at the end.
  16. Well thats an objective reason for sure. Interesting thought about pitching him against free swingers v pitch counters. I never thought of that. Wonder if AJ has ?
  17. Probably not alone since that is a big difference for sure. Maybe being traded or on a winner motivated him more ? I think Fetters pretty good so wouldn’t think it’s because of better coaching. Hard to say.
  18. Absolutely..."bit of both"...Star lord.
  19. Well we can offer the top pitchers money, a pitchers ballpark, solid analytics to keep him at the top of their game , a young up and coming team and to turn lemons into lemonade tell them Rodriguez preferred Detroit over LA to the point of refusing a trade. Detroit can get anyone. There isn't any handicap except the self imposed ones. Again "why not Detroit"...and oh yes the best damn fans in the game !
  20. Petzold made a very interesting comment about adding Maeda and treating him well to open a door to more over seas Asian pitchers. We should consider that for Maria or Yu. Texas did that a few years back with Darvish and it worked so well they were on Ohtani's first list of seven options and still are now. In fact I think Texas or Seattle will land Ohtani rather than the favorite Dodgers.
  21. Philly never used the Wild man in pressure situations and he sat virtually all of the post season so I think that's easier than closing for Detroit.
  22. Yamamoto is worth the overpay and we have the cap space in my humble opinion. Failing that Imanga is a very excellent consolation prize.
  23. Yamamoto is 25 and every MLB team should be in on him. Why not us ?
