Yes and point well made but which is he is the question and he and the team was beyond terrible last year so I vote for a fresh look knowing it might be the wrong decision verses retaining him and knowing it could also be the wrong decision.

Not my $$ but I'm not paying 7 million for the following even for the poor fielding and plodding base running AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 429 49 93 19 2 13 50 28 6 109 0 1 .217 .272 .361 .633

If the Giants want to keep up with LA and now SD then yes Judge is the best place to start.

So Harper hits 2 run homer in 8th for lead and eventual winner and series clincher while Hader stand in the bullpen. Bob “Buck” Melvin. Unreal how fixated they are on roles. The whole series was this inning with the teeth of the order up.

Will there be a larger rule 5 class this year because there wasn't one last year ? Is that possible ? If so maybe a third baseman in that bunch. There is solid logic in bringing him back given the limited MLB options and Kreidler belongs in AAA to start 2023 BUT if he does play much better than 2022 do we really want to commit a free agent multiple year $$ contract to him for 2024 ? I think not so might as well start dealing with 3B now. Maybe we hit on a rule 5 or low cost free agent and by mid year Kreidler or someone emerges. In general I vote to move on from the current cast of characters.

Our roster looks really thin. Even on the list of keepers from Casimir there is real fodder. I think G2 was actually serious or acurate when he said we have 8 guys that matter.

Looking like Philly v Astros in the Series. Or DD/Nick v Verlander. Hitting verses pitching. Houston seems better but Philly seems to be riding the hot streak.
-
Wild, stupid, crazy idea...let the bashing begin
SoCalTiger replied to bsc3165's topic in Detroit Tigers
Verlander might get 2/60 in Houston or LA Maybe we can get him in 2025 -
Also Clemons, Miguel Díaz, Harold Castro, Brendan Davis, Luis Garcia, plus those already listed. heck we could probably get done to a 30 man roster without missing anyone.

Don’t think Carlos wants 2nd base but maybe Swanson or Boegart

Just read that. The moderator would be run off our board 😎

Baez will be our shortstop in 2023. We have many many far worse things to take care of.

Excellent point and probably when his Father passed the pressure to maintain the Empire was first priority.

I have always thought Chris I was actually too complacent, almost asleep at the wheel if you will, allowing Al too much control which Al took full advantage of by patronizing his boss to cover his tail. Saving money for Chris was part of that but in reality Al knew he was overmatched/tentative to make big decisions either by trade or free agency so he focused on Rule 5 and hoping other teams cast offs wold turn into Babe Ruth. Then covid came and provided Al more cover. It was only this year when Al's last foray into serious decisions via trade/free agency failed badly plus the flopping of high draft picks and public backlash did Chris have his "Emperor has no clothes" moment and woke the heck up to make change. I think that moment came as he sat in silence and red a** embarrassment on the field during Miggy's celebration knowing the mere mention of his name, in his house, would result in call for the Lynch mob. So I think Chris will belly up to the bar if Scot Harris requests investment because now Chris has his name on it and I think he is finally engaged and awake.
-
Well we have all played that broken record so its understandable because its so improbable that things could have gone so badly. But they did. Perhaps we will be better served looking downstream which has to be better. I have a good feeling about the new commander. I think Scot Harris will prove to be an excellent hire and our treasured Tigers will be far more entertaining the next seven years compared the last. So let's try to feel good about what's coming. We certainly are due !

No in hindsight Mr. I should have been grooming DD to maintain things after he's gone. Could have even given him a small percentage of the team like 1/2% per year after his death for up to 6 years for a net of 3% plus a solid salary. Let Chris learn under DD instead of you know who. Thats about 30 million for the stewardship or one season of Miggy. Peanuts to keep the team winning.
-
Mr. I’s last few decisions were not good and perhaps made with the heart and emotions instead of the sound business thinking of his career. Over paying Miggy and firing DD instead of competing to retain him. And I think the emotion of his loss carried over to Chris over relying on the guy who was always there Al Avila who I bet was very adept at working his new boss over in the realm of office politics.

Perfect fit for DD and the Phillies

I would be very surprised Turner stays in LA. Sentiment here, talk radio/fans, is he is leaving ala Seger last year. The Red Sox have Story as back up to Bogarts and the Braves don't overpay for the "aging" star. See Freeman.Freddy I say the over under of the top four shortstops staying at 2 and I will take the under. In fact I think they all change teams.
-
With three years left I thought it was closer to 45MM ( 77/5) but you are probably correct unless, again for reasons unknown, he or his family just want a different location.
-
Maybe Rodriguez would consider ? He might match 3/45 and if he ( or his wife ?) regrets signing in Detroit .
-
No but it’s amazing how hard I try to get insight from roster churn. Just show me the money !!!
-
Yes I was pulling hard for the Mariners. Heartbreaking loss in game one and 18 innings yesterday. They got swept but it sure didn’t feel like a sweep. And their catcher playing with a broken thumb. This fans wow.
-
That’s two consecutive optimistic posts and very appreciated. Considering how bad this year was we certainly are due for some good luck as G2 mentions and that’s a long list 84 has of players that should easily do better ? Really anxious for Harris to make his moves…

Once upon a time GM's traded minor leaguers for major league talent often hyping their youngsters up to do so. Then a new type of analytical GM thought came to the fore and and teams started holding they minor league talent tightly; which did hinder Al's one lane approach to rebuilding. Now I sense emerging a reluctance from Mega deals that will begin to play out this off season as teams realize the damage they cause and the overall failure rate. Sure Mega stars that hugely impact both the Box office and build the brand will be an exception but overall teams will seek smaller commitments to maintain trade flexibility year to year. I could be wrong but looking at the teams that spend without reward it should leave a mark. Carlos Correa did not put the Twins over the top, Max's 45 million went up in smoke in Flushing, The Padres won without Tatis, DD added solid mid priced free agents and won, The Indians are still playing without spending big..ditto the Rays, Texas has the most expensive Keystone combo and lost big anyways, Seattle and Atlanta are choosing to pay their youngsters early for the prime years instead of paying BIG for the declining years. The risk of going big too early for years 23-30 is now considered less risky than going big for years 31-38 and knowing bloody well the last two years are wasteful. All of this will / should in my estimation have an impact of free agency more and more each year.
