  1. Miggy looks broken and I still believe he will retire with full pay. He is a baseball player that can no longer perform and I don't think he wants to be a carnival attraction for the fans. This reality will set in and the new GM will, hopefully and delicately, provide a narrative that allows him to retire with dignity.
  2. Two catchable balls fall in the outfield and we're toast. Badoo and Willie. It's been nice knowing you.
  3. Assembling our 2024 pitching staff at a surgery center near you.
  4. Yes they were to the tune of # 2 in wins during the decade. MLB : Regular season wins in the 1980's World Yrs in Series World Yrs in Franchise Wins Series Playoffs W L New York Yankees 0 1 2 854 708 Detroit Tigers 1 1 2 839 727 Kansas City Royals 1 2 4 826 734 Los Angeles Dodgers 2 2 4 825 741 St. Louis Cardinals 1 3 3 825 734 Boston Red Sox 0 1 2 821 742 Houston Astros 0 0 3 819 750 Toronto Blue Jays 0 0 2 817 746 New York Mets 1 1 2 816 743 Washington Nationals 0 0 1 811 752 Milwaukee Brewers 0 1 2 804 760 Oakland Athletics 1 2 3 803 764 Baltimore Orioles 1 1 1 800 761 Los Angeles Angels 0 0 2 783 783 Philadelphia Phillies 1 2 3 783 780 Cincinnati Reds 0 0 0 781 783 San Francisco Giants 0 1 2 773 795 San Diego Padres 0 1 1 762 805 Chicago White Sox 0 0 1 758 802 Chicago Cubs 0 0 2 735 821 Minnesota Twins 1 1 1 733 833 Pittsburgh Pirates 0 0 0 732 825 Texas Rangers 0 0 0 720 839 Atlanta Braves 0 0 1 712 845 Cleveland Indians 0 0 0 710 849 Seattle Mariners 0 0 0 673 893
  5. This is why he needs to retire. It’s a common perception across all baseball fans and Miggy needs to let his pride take over if Chris will cash him out whole.
  6. Let’s say we give Carpenter more than two games despite the early eye sore.
  7. Seems he is doing better but it could just be another year of experience. Thanks for the update.
  8. BTW is the News and Free Press sports page off line ? Did Al crash it ?
  9. I didn't think Chris had it in him but I am glad that he did. I think he will go outside the organization and "go big". I suppose when Miggy said about his possible retirement he had to "talk to the GM" and not "talk to Al" that the cast had been struck. Pray he hires the right person.
  10. I couldn’t agree more. Time for a heart to heart talk. He is only eroding his legacy. Take a bow and call it a day. All the handicap parking spaces are full.
  11. Does anyone know how the 3rd baseman we traded to Cincinnati for Barnhart is doing? I think we drafted him in the second round and he was bad. Curious if he is still bad or better in the Reds system.
  12. What a mess. Maybe a good carpenter can fix it.
  13. Wow its worse than I thought and the last team, Baltimore, is in the wild card hunt this year. We are the worse team in Baseball since 2017 so asking the fans for more time is just wrong.
  14. Agree to go outside the organization for a new GM but if they do stay in house then Hinch is the only choice since he had the less time in Detroit and therefore closest to an external hire. Chadd should be swept out also. Anyone close to Al. Clean sweep.
  15. True but the Detroit Baseball Club has always had professional scouts also and how have they done lately ?
  16. I do not have any skill as a talent evaluates apart from watching baseball for 55 years. Keeps me young 🙂. But I do see trends around the league and what I notice is many teams that draft lower than us continually produce MLB regular contributors and stars but since the Tram-Lou-etc era we do not. i hope 84 is right about this group. It’s why we watch and the optimism is needed at this juncture because the varsity team looks dreadful. At the same time Micros certified knowledge serves to minimize angst. Both of which combine to bring me to my aged old wish. Just give us a competitive team year in and year out so most of the summer we are “in the hunt”. Maybe no trophies but a pulse daily. A reason to watch. These past seven years have been inexcusable to me and I hope Chris Illitch and Al Avila are embarrassed and ashamed. They wouldn’t even dare mention their own names during yesterday’s Lou ceremony. What does that say? It says get the F out of town you bumbling fools and Disgenuous caretakers of our treasured institution. You are frauds and an insult to the spirit of the game.
  17. It’s funny that Miggy represented Tiger Baseball excellence for so long and now he is associated with Tiger ineptness. It just “feels” that he needs to retire before we can truly have a fresh start. I will be disappointed if he tries to play in 2023. It’s embarrassing at this point.
  18. Barnhart catching Garcia struggling swings at the first pitch to help Bryan rest.
  19. It has been a frustrating start. I supported the signing and I still like and believe in Baez. His game is electric on the base baths and tagging runners he is supreme. He seems to be leveling out with the bat but he will have some little league at bats. The frustrating part this year is the throwing. I don’t know who that guy is sometimes. He still makes great throws in the hole and turns the double play perfectly but then there is the poor throw out of the blue. I think he will fix that and I have always felt he performs best when it counts and loses concentration when the team is struggling. Bottom line he is here for six years so I hope he returns to norm and you can start enjoying his game.
  20. Sadly the Emporer has no clothes and we aren't fixing this train wreck in one season nor reaching .500 plus without some players returning to their career norms in 2023. If Baez , Meadows and Schoop revert to norms and Greene and Tork gain their footing that would be a real good start. With Miggy retiring Meadows can DH often. DFA Candy and cut bait with the Castros. Haas as one catcher. That leaves us with 3B, catcher, two outfielders and a starter to pick up in the off season. Maybe roll with Rogers at catcher. Then maybe by 2024 some minor league position players can emerge such as Kreidler and Dingler. Or they go big and try for Correa again and move Baez to 3rd in 2023 and to second in 2024 after Schoop is gone. it's a mess for sure but there are potentially some pieces to work with including a decent pitching staff that has proven to be resilient under Fetter.
  21. He’s not playing next year. I have been saying that for some time now. He will get paid but won’t play. Why suffer physically and tarnish your reputation by sucking. Plus now it’s clear we will not contend in 2023.
  22. I want a new GM making the selection
  23. Jim Bowden FWIW Detroit Tigers Grade: D Trades: Traded OF Robbie Grossman to Braves for LHP Kris Anglin; traded RHP Michael Fulmer to Twins for RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long. The Tigers received two fringe prospects, at best, in the two deals they did make, and were asking too much for their closer, Gregory Soto, in the one they didn’t make. With relievers in demand, I was shocked the Tigers didn’t take advantage of the market by dealing Soto, their most tradable asset. According to several GMs, they just priced him too high. The Tigers could have dealt lefty Andrew Chafin and/or righty Joe Jiménez. They missed a golden opportunity to improve their organization’s pool of position players. Another disappointing deadline in the Motor City.
  24. It's malpractice and just stupid. Sorry but I can't believe there aren't GM's out there thinking " why did you ask for my top ten talent if you were going to trade Fulmer for trash ? "
