putting the mgoblog stuff aside, putting the motownsports trolls aside, i just dont think the punishment fits the crime. as for the media, if this were bama or ohio state or any of the other big name teams it would be a big deal to the media. as for the ncaa, its a big deal because of harbaugh. as for the big ten, its a big deal because its michigan and pettiti has not handled it well. if this is the sec, this never happens this way. the big ten is destroying itself over what is basically a minor violation. michigan is not helping with its combatitive attitude. and in all honesty, i dont believe the "institution" of michigan and specifically the athletic department is very well run. and you can see that in all the stuff that has happened to it very publicly recently.

why is this a big deal to you? because of the public perception?

i just dont understand the difference. if you steal signs at a game, and then pass them to another team to use, that's fine. if someone videotapes it in person on their iphone who is on your staff, that's wrong. what's the difference? why is one "ok" and the other is the "worst scandal in big ten history"? to me, the coach's argument is "we've all stolen signs and passed them to other teams, but that's happened for years so its ok." is that a real justification for the rule? i have always said: if michigan broke rules they should face a penalty. and they have. but the penalty does not fit the crime, imo. especially when other programs do basically the same thing but in a mildly different way and its not a big deal. its not even against the rules.

ncaa two years ago: this provides minimal advantage if any and we need to address whether we need this rule at all. ncaa after it finds out someone on jim harbaugh's staff did it: this is the worst scandal in big ten history. it's laughable.

the lions have beaten one team with a winning record and that team was without two of their best players. the best team they played crushed them. the second best team they played beat them at home. their defense has major holes against any fully functional offense with a pulse. lets hold off on the super bowl predictions just yet. lol. deapite my reservations, i really hope houston comes back and can make an immediate difference because they badly need any kind of pass rush. what happened to the successful stunts from last year? have i missed it or are they not running as many of those now?

sam postulating the pistons might trade for lavine. unlikely. sam probably doesnt remember that the pistons cant trade their first round pick because they owe it to the knicks. the trade would have to be centered around ivey + something else. probably duren. i doubt the pistons would deal duren.

bowling green was his worst game. penn state was weird and i imagine if harbaugh was there they would have operated a bit differently, but you never know.

i'd be surprised if either make it back or, if they do, that either makes much of a difference after missing an entire season of football.

ohio state is a much different proposition than any team they've played so far. jj also had his worst game without harbaugh and the penn state game was weird.

draymond gets away with everything. its not the bad boys era. how many times does draymond have to try to intentionally injure someone before the league does something? he obviously owns the warriors. the guy decked jordan poole and the warriors did nothing of substance about it except trade jordan poole the first chance they could get.

so who forms this new league? top tier: michigan, ohio state, penn state, usc, washington, texas, oklahoma, alabama, georgia, lsu, florida, florida state, notre dame. next tier brought on by proximity to top tier: ucla, michigan state, oregon, miami, auburn, texas a & m, clemson. that's 20. who else gets in? north carolina for sure but probably not duke. colorado maybe? arizona for the phoenix market? stanford or cal? probably not if they couldnt even make the big ten cut. boston college? the easier thing to do would be to just take the big ten and sec, add notre dame, north carolina, clemson, and florida state (and maybe miami) and start from there. part of me would love to see michigan casting the vote to exclude purdue, illinois, and rutgers.

michigan being sanctioned for bull**** is not going to hasten that process. the broadcast companies will hasten the process the next time the sec/big ten contracts are up in 6 or 7 years. by that time, 90% of the players in the current drama will be elsewhere. michigan is currently throwing a temper tantrum; an understandable temper tantrum, but a temper tantrum nonetheless. mgoblog, et al are mad and their venting at the rest of the conference players who threw michigan under the bus for this silliness. sure. but michigan is not leading the charge to abandon college football as we know it. its not happening no matter how cool it would be.
