they do have a lot of draft capital. i forgot about that. of course, they are talking about bringing harden back...
-
i trust brad holmes' decision on that matter. if he takes richardson (or another qb), we'll know what he thinks about it. but i dont think his reasoning is - or should be - "we have jared goff so we cant take a great qb prospect." he is thinking about the long term future of the franchise as well as the near term success.
-
drafting and developing a young qb would be great because you'd potentially be developing a great player at the most important position in football, and be able to do it wothout paying a ton of money for the player at that position. for every team but the saints apparently, you eventually have to pay the piper. ask the chiefs. but the chiefs are still really good because they drafted patrick mahomes, sat him for a year, and then took off. if richardson is that type of athlete, then its not unreasonable to draft him, sit him, develop him while he's cheap, and set your franchise up for a decade. risky for sure, but you have this manna from heaven as a gift from stafford, its perfectly plausible to use it to set up the future of your franchise rather than take a cb who you think might be plug and play.

young millionaire men making mistakes is a tale as old as time.

i'd rather be us than houston...for what's that worth. btw, the defensive ratings with two of bagley/wiseman/duren/stewart on the floor together are abysmal. i dont see the games so i cant really comment if that passes the eye test.

true.

the lions will have to pay sewell and st brown soon. then hutch. the lions have drafted good players who will become expensive in a couple years, their cap sheet wont be that great in a few years, especially if youre paying a 30 year old qb 40 million per season. again, not advocating they take a qb, but the idea that goff will be cheaper than a rookie qb isnt true, not to mention that if they draft a qb i assume they think he will be a dynamic qb that goff is not. that said, i doubt they take a qb this year, but the future cap implications and the upgrade in talent would be two of the major reasons why they do it of they decide to do so.

trade goff for two first from the jets. ok, that's the land of make believe. stop yourself right there.
-
no, you would have the qb this year wait behind goff for a low amount, then have him for less than market value for four more years. goff is under contract for $30 million this year and next, then would be off the books when your qb is making $10 million, $15m and then $20. goff during that time will cost $40, $40, and $40. at a minimum. im not advocating they draft a qb, but it would be cheaper than signing goff long term and cheaper than goff now.
-
why would you need to decide by year 3 if you want to extend him? if you do, it will be to pick up the 5th year option, for $20m? goff is under contract for one more year. how much will he cost to extend him? in two years, a first year qb will cost $10m on a rookie contract? how much will goff cost? $40m?

hopefully you can worry about it while you polish your super bowl trophies.

are these mock drafts of mc dreams? lol.
-
another reason to draft a qb of the future! lol.

i think there's a pretty good chance he does before detroit. seattle is a good possibility.

no thanks on derrick henry. hard pass.

there really isnt anybody to get in this offseason...unless you want to re-sign bertuzzi. meier wont be there. i wouldnt be surprised if they deal some of their LHD prospects for a RHD. they need some. i think kasper will make the team next year, like raymond did. he seems like their type of player. rasmussen back will help, but they need to get more physical. theyre really pushed around way too much still.

i dont bring it up "because it sounds believable," i bring it up because i watch the games and i see how he plays. there is a big difference between swift playing hard and running strong and swift looking for contact and playing weak and busting everything outside. he played more than half the lions' snaps in 5 games last year. one was the first game of the year when he was healthy and played extremely well. after that washington game in week 2? not so much.
-
barkley played every game last year but one. additionally, when barkley plays, he plays 80-90% of the offensive snaps. swift rarely plays more than 40% of the lions snaps. in fact, in many of the games where he "played", he was 1) unproductive; and 2) played about 1/3 of the offensive plays. your insistence that because swift "played" in games means he's not unreliable because of injury is puzzling. swift played well in a handful of games last year. other than that, he was not used much. he is a glorified third down back and not a back like barkley or potentially robinson. swift is in a contract year, so we'll see if he can play through enough pain to get paid after this year.

i cant believe you just compared yzerman to al avila.
-
? what did you want them to do? the alternative is sign bertuzzi long term and trade assets for a stop gap defenseman so they might finish 8th and get swept by boston? is that what you wanted?

the odds are 50/50 that ALL of the 4 qbs will be gone by 6.

why not? when he took over they were the worst team in modern nhl history. and then got screwed by the league in the lottery so much that they changed the rules (just in time to screw them again). they are re-setting the timeline on this team to the appropriate level - the current group of 18-22 year olds - and loading up on first round picks. next year i expect perron to be dealt too for a couple second round picks, hopefully zadina shows just enough to bring back something too. the vestiges of the old regime need to be removed, like the tigers, they set back the franchise for a decade and new mgmt is here to dig them out. this is what they needed to do a decade ago. SY has the cachet to be able to do it now and is doing it. if you thought perron and copp and kubalik would turn this team into a playoff contender, that's on you. they were never going to be better than buffalo and ottawa, teams that have been picking in the top 5 for a decade (and not fucking it up like detroit).

ortiz has always been a fat pos. the difference with him is he went hard on peds, got caught, and then lied about it. and because he's "big papi" and plays for the red sox, mlb let him get away with it. sorry for the rant, but ortiz in the hall of fame and arod not is a miscarriage of justice. ortiz is a cheater and a liar.
