  1. youre equating a sperm with a fertilized egg. obviously not the same thing.
  2. no.
  3. you've conflated killing a human being with popping a zit. you dont need technology to tell its a human embryo, you know its a human embryo because its inside a human. you are killing a human life. on purpose. you can justify it with all sorts of reasons - i know i do. but at the end of the day, that's what youre doing. no reason to pussyfoot around the issue to make yourself feel better.
  4. i didnt. look, i expect it. you take a position that is not in the mainstream left and you get disagreed with. comes with the territory.
  5. like throwing around the taliban and racists, and rape excusers? or putin apologists? i didnt call anyone nazis or hitler.
  6. how about oblong's language and characterization of all those who dont believe in abortion? is that cool? i responded in kind.
  7. hoping for sanity in today's politics is probably not good for your health.
  8. hard right, hard left, both are pretty insufferable on the ol' internets.
  9. i was making a joke. its an internet message board, the only victims here are logic and reason.
  10. they're "embryos" and "fetuses" because such scientific language makes people feel better about what is actually occuring. its a medical procedure, its not actually killing a living thing.
  11. well, you can see how this thread is going for me. lol.
  12. its a "game to me" but not to you? ok oblong. i think abortion is completely immoral and is killing a human being. it has nothing tondo with sex or rape or controlling women's bodies. the idea that everyone who thinks abortion should be illegal is some sort of religious nut job is a fanciful trope.
  13. why is it that states that want to let murderers live think its ok to carve out exceptions in criminal law to make it legal to execute innocent babies? we can make hyperbolic statements on all sides. suffice to say, abortion is a difficult and nuanced issue.
  14. i think abortion is immoral, but shouldnt be illegal. i would make abortion illegal after 20 weeks. maybe even before 20 weeks, maybe 16.
  15. most americans are not on twitter and dont care. i'll be interested to see if this motivates independent women to vote democrat. i think it will motivate democratic voters to get out and vote, but will it override independents in a year that is stacked against the democrats? dunno. however, this is a gift to the democrats in fundraising and enthusiasm, cause with the country going into inflation/off year election/ unpopular president, they needed some help.
  16. look brother, youre barking up the wrong tree. i hate the filibuster and think they should get rid of it for that very reason! but what politicians say about it depends on which day of the week it is, not on some principal.
  17. you're a man, right? do you care about babies? or do you cop out and say "well, that's a woman's choice"? and the polling on abortion is remarkably consistent between men and women. most americans - men and women - are in favor of keeping abortion legal in the first trimester. the vast vast vast majority of both men and women believe abortion should not be legal in the second or - god forbid - third trimester unless there is a health issue for the mother or baby. the idea that this is just men telling women what to do or think is a media trope. this isnt 1950. women agree with men on the issue.
  18. of course! because its not about principal with democrats or republicans, its about whose ox is being gored. im glad you see it too.
  19. what about the babies? ah who cares, kill em.
  20. i cant wait to suddenly see the democrats fall in love with the filibuster again! suddenly the filibuster will become as central to "preserving democracy" as the ability to pass out water in a voting line.
  21. unionize and come to a collective bargaining agreement that caps and regulates nils. but the big players have no real incentive to do that yet. maybe the bit players who get no real nil money will at some point, or the mid level schools with no ability to match the big behemoths. but not yet.
  22. that's the most popular alternative and the one that is the law in most countries: a ban after 20 weeks or so. unfortunately both parties seemed to be ruled by their extremes: the republicans who want an outright ban, and the democrats who think any restriction on abortion is the coming of the handmaid's tale. throw roe's strained reasoning into the mix and you get our current situation. remove roe and you'll see a hodgepodge of state restrictions from outright bans to allowance of partial birth abortions. if you wanted to motivate democratic voters, you just got it.
  23. im consistently more accurate about the court than most here. 😏 but i pay attention to it more than most. but nobody's perfect, lol.
  24. 1) lets wait and see what is actually written and agreed on by 5 justices; 2) if so, it will be the biggest help the democrats have had for the mid terms in a long time. i know there are all sorts of polls out there that say abortion is low on people's list of important issues, but that's because people dont think about roe being overturned. if it is, that will sharpen people's minds and motivate liberals in an election cycle in which they were appearing extremely unmotivated; 3) its a good time to stay off twitter.
  25. whither roe?
