  1. I didn’t realize Hunter Brown is a Detroit native and grew up a Tigers fan.
  2. 10:40 ET -- Nike is one of the most mentioned companies in the U.S. across all news items in the past 12 hours, according to Factiva data. Nike withdrew its full-year guidance and postponed its first investor day in seven years while it evaluates the direction of the company following the appointment of Elliott Hill as chief executive. For the second quarter, Nike said it expects revenue to be down 8% to 10% as it deals with higher promotions and lower benefits from its pricing actions. Analysts polled by FactSet expect second-quarter revenue to be down 6.7%. Nike's change of plans comes as it reports a 10% drop in revenue in its first quarter after delivering lower-than-expected unit sales. Dow Jones & Co. owns Factiva. (chris.wack@wsj.com)
  3. Through the first three playoff games today the home teams are 0-3.
  4. Just heard that. Wow! That’s an ugly streak.
  5. A former Jacksonville Jaguars employee who embezzled more than $22 million from the team is suing FanDuel, alleging that the betting company fueled his fantasy-sports spending and ignored his gambling addiction. Amit Patel, who is serving a six-and-a-half-month federal prison term after pleading guilty to stealing money from the team, claimed in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that a FanDuel VIP host showered him with more than $1 million in betting credits, all-expenses-paid trips and gifts to prey on him. He is seeking $250 million in damages.

  9. Not pertaining to Gaza but… https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/iran-ballistic-missile-attack-israel-8c418294?mod=mhp Extremely concerning.
  10. I know the fans in Milwaukee are happy with his decision.
  11. One of Sparky’s boys. RIP
  12. You should write for The Athletic!
  13. 7-6 Braves on Albies bases loaded double.
  14. Total implosian in Atlanta.
  15. I would have bet the conversation had something to do with curly fries.
  16. Toward the latter part of Friday night’s game vs the White Sox, Hinch had his arms around George Lombard’s shoulders and was having, more or less, a one way conversation with him as they both faced the field in the dugout. I would love to know what Hinch was saying then. I’m guessing it would be a conversation about real time strategy but have no idea. Has this instance been reported on in the media blitz around that game?
  17. An absolute must read piece on Skubal and his family by Stavanhagen. Pieces like this make the subscription worth the price. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5804270/2024/09/30/tarik-skubal-tigers-cy-young-brother/
  18. Recently, neither.
  19. Did Chas just describe the demographic particulars of the MLB target audience these days? And they’re winning.
  20. So, regardless of order, I’m guessing Baltimore’s top two starters are Burnes and Eflin. Skubal is going to start game one. The big question, who would Hinch start in game two, be it at Baltimore or Houston?
  21. I seriously don’t think the A’s will ever land in Vegas. I’m hoping Fisher gets bored and sells the team. Putting this charade in Sacramento will highlight what a ridiculous joke this is to begin with.
  22. Don’t know where this should go as far as thread topics go so I’ll place it here. The purpose is for information only. The intent isn’t to start a back and forth or finger pointing exercise. This is inexcusable. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration
  23. The devastation in western NC is something that is hard to fathom. I-40 is closed from I-77 to Tennessee. Towns have been wiped out, gone. It’s beyond words. The death count is nowhere near what it will be due to drownings and yet to be discovered bodies due to collapsed homes/fires, etc. As I approach my 70th year, I can’t think of anything as devastating as this in North Carolina in my lifetime.
