For the past several years now I have firmly believed that Avila thought he could draft this team into playoff contention without having to be active in the trade market. I think on the way out the door he still believed that. I think he knew, better than anyone else, that he would be on the losing end more often than not in straight up deals with other GMs across the league. With that mindset, he stood pat.

I’d be open to hiring a new manager. Never have been a big Hinch fan and now I see him as just another piece of the epic fail saga.

Very true. I guess I’ve got it bad-I was thinking about this trade laying in bed this morning. It was a total fiasco. From what I recall Avila was at JV’s house waiting for a response in the final hour of the deadline. JV was really on the fence about leaving Detroit. Finally, at the last hour he reportedly turned to Kate and said, “Screw it, we’re going to Houston.” What a sad tale to tell as a Tiger fan.

Coolbaugh should be the next guy out the door.

The 2019 D on the hat was billboard size! It was atrocious. I think that was Chris’ idea. The Tiger through the D was awful as well. This team has one of the coolest hats out there and these morons spin their wheels trying to ruin it.

I had forgotten all about that episode.

This is my take on it as well. Chris inherited this team. Mike built what had been a good team. Mike had played for the Tigers in the minors. His blood was in the Tigers’ fortunes, good & bad. I don’t know that Chris, to this day, really cares about the Tigers as most owners might.

Most likely, yes. Buy I believe Al fed Chris so much shit he didn’t know the long term results of this. Al probably was telling him trading JV would be the answer to the glory days on the horizon. Al was in over his head. The “full bore” line was telling. He knew he was running out of rope.

I understand where you’re coming from but…Chris was asked specifically about JV and JD. This organization has been a flaming turd for years now. If Al was responsible for the shit, lay it out there. He’ll, we all knew it. It’s no secret Avila was in way over his head. The fans deserve to get an honest cut from the owner if he’s willing to talk. Illitch needs, more than anyone, to learn from this. He doesn’t need to play Steinbrenner but he should have an idea of what really is going on in the organization.

I have always believed, and stated as much, that Al had Chris snowed. Al Fed Illitch the lines he wanted to hear, played him like a fiddle. Case in point: “The rebuild is 100% complete.” I believe Illitch left the business of the Tigers to Avila. Ultimately, you would say the buck stops with Illitch but I believed from the beginning this was Avila’s baby. That Illitch finally saw the light, great. I agree with Chas that the only reason Illitch moved now was because the shit was in the press and on the talk shows, etc. The shit was on his doorstep and he probably realized that his judgement was in question. However it went down, thank you!!!!

This scenario is a huge bonus for the organization. Glad he got the “full bore” exit.

I’m not a fan of Luhnow but I almost dropped his name here the other day. I’d go with it if they can get him.

I respect your perspective on this but I believe the issue isn’t as much about patience as it is about competence. There has been ample time and ample opportunity to turn this fiasco around and it hasn’t happened. Until major changes are made I’m not expecting a different outcome.

I’ve seen several comments here and elsewhere that weigh the possibility of Hinch moving into the GM position here if Avila vacates the position. I’m on record as opposing anything like that. I agree with any and everybody that contends we need to go outside this organization. I don’t believe Hinch has the experience or background to sit in the GM’s position. Frankly, I doubt he’d want the job anyway.

I’ll bet Hinch, like every other Tiger fan, is hoping Avila gets the ax soon enough.

In the for what it’s worth column… Matt Boyd can likely be had next year on a minor league deal with an invite.

Manning has pitched extremely well today. I would have been happy with six innings and 80+ pitches in that he is just back in the rotation and getting back up to par. I’m just wanting to see these guys stay healthy first and foremost.

That’s enough for Manning. Excellent outing but call it day and go to the pen.
