  1. 1997-2016 Turner Field in Atlanta. I still have a hard time understanding how short lived this park was.
  2. With Wander Franco on the shelf for who knows how long, the Rays brought up the SS at Durham to replace him. A day or two later they promoted Carson Williams (SS) from High A to AAA Durham. The kid is 20 years of age as of two months ago. Should be an interesting watch.
  3. How’s that 10 year treasury yield looking right about now? Mortgage rates headed up. Redfin CEO says housing market has hit rock bottom. I think there is more downside yet.
  4. From SI: Now, just days into the investigation, a new report casts doubt on the future of Franco’s baseball career. On Tuesday morning, baseball insider Héctor Gómez reported that a source close to the matter says it is “very unlikely that Wander Franco will play in MLB again, judging by the results of the investigations that are currently being carried out, which directly commit him to the accusations against him.”
  5. “Sweet sweet Connie doin’ her act She had the whole show and that’s a natural fact.” -Grand Funk Railroad. Connie Hamzy, who just recently passed, started her “career” at 15 years of age. This, by her own admission.
  6. Being consistent. I’d prefer Petry over any other options on the radio. Second to him, Dirks would be fine.
  7. This from Wikipedia: ”Franco married his girlfriend after the 2021 MLB season. The pair have a son, Wander Samuel Franco Jr., born in late 2018, and have another son, born in 2022.” Wander Franco is from the Dominican Republic. From what I’m understanding, the allegation involves a female from the Dominican Republic. I don’t know where this female actually resides now. I have no idea what is “traditionally” or “culturally” considered crossing the line in the DR where ages of consent, or whatever, are concerned. So, is this age issue being addressed through MLB necessarily an age issue specific to the Dominican Republic, and what is acceptable there? Or is this an Americanized view of what should or shouldn’t be?
  8. We attended a Durham Bulls game yesterday. There were challenges to two of the plate umpires calls during the game. Both of the calls were overturned on review. Both incorrect calls were ball four calls that were actually strikes. Driving home I commented to my wife at how well the batters know the strike zone. These were the only two challenges of the game and the players were correct in both cases. In both cases the ball was on the strike frame perimeter.
  9. If there is any substance to this it will be disastrous for the Rays. I really hope this is just some bs story.
  10. Your grandson may be a future scout. He clearly sees something the Tigers FO is missing.
  11. To your point on injuries, yes he’s had some injuries in the time he’s been in SF but I’d trust if there was anything major the Tigers would catch it via the due diligence process. I was thinking he might be at a backup position with the opportunity (for he and the club) to improve himself and value. Harris and Hinch have repeatedly touted the, ‘Come here and we can improve you as a player’ mantra. Bart impresses me as a prime candidate for this approach. SF has very little, if any, leverage with a Bart deal. I listen to a fair amount of Giants games and have heard Kapler comment on Bart’s status on a number of occasions during pregame interviews with Jon Miller. First hand, it is clear that Bart is not a shining star by the bay anymore.
  12. I’m still asking why Harris doesn’t, unless he already has, reach out to SF to just inquire about Joey Bart. Bailey is their #1 guy for the foreseeable future. Bart is out of options.
  13. RHP Casey Mize (Tommy John surgery, lumbar strain) Expected return: Possibly late 2023 Mize completed a bullpen session on Aug. 5 in which he used his secondary pitches. He threw another bullpen session on Aug. 9. (Last updated: Aug. 10)
  14. After seeing several games this season with the Challenge system and the ABS system, I’m a proponent of either over the status quo. I could see year one being the Challenge system for the sake of the fans. Call it a visual demo of the ABS system for the casual fans and how it will work. I think a year of the Challenge system might help the transition to the ABS. We attended a game this year where the ABS was being used. Several fans didn’t have any idea that that umpire was simply communicating what the system was telling him. These guys were riding the ump about how he was missing the calls. It was a funny, all things considered.
  15. I’ve got to believe the ABS moves to MLB next year. Would this have to involve MLBPA or the umpires union? Anyone?
