I do too. I see more of a spot for him than Malloy.
-
I do think Tork is the Tiger to benefit the most from the challenge system. He seems to have too good of an eye many times and has gotten hurt (it seems) more than anyone by calls off the plate when other guys may swing at them to put them in play.
-
It's what happens when you're willing to pay oft-injured guys huge $ to be ready for the playoffs and they don't get injured at the end of the season like they were last year. The money they have in their rotation for the regular season innings is crazy, but this year the plan worked and everyone is healthy when they needed to be.

He did pat Glasgow on the rear to signal he was going in motion - that would be "on the body of the center". I think it is poorly written, but I think the Lions did violate the rule. The issue IMO is the officials didn't get it right at the time (Like the block in the back on Branch), they conferred and were placing the ball for the extra point, and then conferred again - clearly getting a call from NY which is against the rules also.

Thanks!

Thanks Edman! From the list, I'd protect Lee, Liranzo, and maybe Cruz. Of the bubble, I'd be most likely to let Sommers and one of Jones/Ibanez go. I'd potentially look to trade Malloy in order to keep Jones/Ibanez and obviously open to including a couple of the bubble players in a trade. I do have a question, if Flaherty opts out, he is off the 40 man even if we offer him (and Torres) the qualifying offer, correct?

This lines up with what I was hoping for. I was hoping for Bednar or Griffin Jax. In the end, Finnegan did better than I could have imagined, but adding one of them also would have helped last Friday.
-
I know Edman has a spreadsheet.

Add Gavin Lux and Willie Calhoun to the list of former untouchable Dodger prospects who “couldn’t miss” and now, well….. Those trades, especially the Red Sox set the teams getting the prospects back a number of years.

You don’t think moving back a 18” would change where a pitch ends up? A sinking FB, or a curve/slider? I think it would have a significant effect. This isn’t a SS throwing to 1st, it’s a pitcher hitting a specific spot which they’ve trained all their life for. Could it be done? Sure, but it would be a significant change.
-
Like Edman said, we know it was a pitcher so it was either Melton or Montero and is much more likely it was Melton.
-
If you read the article Edman posted, Woodbury describes it. Cody from the Athletic does as well.

He is the one almost everyone believes Harris was referring to at his press conference and it fits as he was our #10 prospect (Seattle gave up their 9, 11, and 17 for him)

Where you completely lose credibility is saying we will be set back 10 years if we don’t trade Skubal. I think our reputation in the clubhouse or FA’s may be set back considerably if we do, as it would clearly show we aren’t willing to take a chance. Spencer Torkelson and Casey Mize (as well as Delmon Young and Jarikson Profar) were #1 overall prospects. The prospects we get for Skubal are as likely to become them as stars. (And I don’t think we get Painter for 1 year of Skubal from the Phillies side either. 1 year pitchers just haven’t gotten the type of returns it seems you are expecting-and I wouldn’t make the trades for what you’re expecting. A slightly better Corbin Burnes return is likely what we’d get and 1 year of Skubal on a competing team is worth more than that to me. We currently have 4 top 50 prospects depending on multiple sites. And Liranzo is a top 100 on some. See above-not all will pan out, but our cupboard is not bare at all We are not set back 10 years if we don’t trade him.
-
The Diamondbacks evidently asked for Melton and more for Suarez. He wasn’t a top 100 prospect either, but provided more present and future value to us than Suarez would have.
-
That is definitely an interesting take and in hindsight may have some validity. At least in regards to Paddock and Morton
-
That’s why I said someone like Ryan who is under control beyond 2026.
-
I think you’re overestimating the likelihood of performance of the packages and underestimating the value of 2026 Skubal to this team. IMO that value is worth more than 1 top prospect in an organization and a flyer-I’m valuing the comp pick as roughly one of the top prospects in those organizations.
-
You’re not the only one 😀
-
If anything, the Tigers should be trading for another Skubal for next year instead of trading him. If Ryan for example would be available for 1 of our top 3 plus more of our next 3, that would make more sense with their opportunity to compete than trading Skubal. It’s easy for some fans to say, trade him for prospects for the future, but do you really think it wouldn’t destroy the morale of the club to know they have a chance to again likely be in the postseason, but the team is trading away their best opportunity for that, especially advancing in the postseason for prospects? Even though we didn’t win either of Skubal’s starts, I believe his presence for game 2 forced the Mariners to make some decisions and press that helped us win game 1.
-
I agree, but I don’t think you get that in 2026-at least the best of Jobe. They would need to sign Mize or a similar replacement, but this is why I don’t think it’s all hopeless if Skubal leaves for a draft pick after 2026.

Anderson was on BA’s hot sheet for the 1st week. McGonigle and he both had solid first weeks. I remember seeing stats on Bless You Boys
-
I don’t think we are looking at missing the playoffs for 10 years by not trading Skubal. I think we have considerably more options of improving our team internally in 2027 and beyond than we do in 2026. So yes, losing Skubal will hurt, but it doesn’t mean no playoffs in 2027 or 2028 and beyond. Trading Skubal for prospects this offseason on the other hand, almost guarantees IMO we don’t have a chance in the playoffs (or likely getting there) in 2026. With him, we are the favorites in the Central. Without him, we are likely competing with Minnesota for 3rd in 2026. I also think it would extremely hurt the positive morale in the clubhouse as well as $ coming in from fans.
-
He just got an extention in December up to over $9 mil/yr, but it's only until 2030, so yes, they likely add some years & $ to it if needed.
-
I'd rather have 2026 Skubal and the comp pick and go win the Central and see how far we can go.
