  1. don't they need 67? It's 2/3. And frankly, generally speaking, I think Congress would be wise to set up a precedent where impeachment/removal is a real threat. That goes for R's and D's. The executive branch needs to be curtailed back to where it was before FDR. It was, excluding LIncoln, a smaller scale office. Let's get back to that.
  2. I think it's because it reminded white moms of their little boy playing little league. They can't relate to "The mexicans". Besides, they had a hidden bias agains tthem because they had mustaches and facial hair at 13 so they assumed they were older. But "my little Brandon..."
  3. ah, ok. They come out on Tuesdays so I thought you meant 7-9, which werent released when I wrote that anyway. Tiger baseball interferes with my ability to watch. But I am digging it so far. Loved Saw.
  4. I thought it was the 0-fer in the HR Derby!
  5. I didn't say it wasn't. I'm just pointing out that comparing 12 years to basically 1 and saying the 12 years was "more fun" because they had more success isn't valid. You can't use examples from 2006 and 2012 seasons and say "that team" because they're different teams and eras.
  6. Didn't we get Jarrod Washburn at the same time?
  7. left field. I was following on game day or via a message board and read the word "Sean Casey grounds out to LF" and spit out my tea.
  8. It's not an apples to apples comparison though. Yes from 2006 to 2017 we had some great memories. That's 12 seasons to draw from. Really the only guy from 2006 that was contributing anything by 2011 was Verlander. It wasnt the same team. I group the team like this historically: 2006-2007. A great season and a half that marked the revival of Tiger baseball. Injuries did the 2007 team in but they had the best MLB record at the ASB. This will always be special for die hard Tiger fans. 2008-2010. Meh. 2009 was good because they were in a bad division but the tie breaker game was a stinker. The guys from the previous era are breaking down. 2011-2014. A mini revival marked by shakey bullpens and a team that ultimately fell short. The two best players we'll ever see in a Tiger uniform in their prime. 2015-2017. Hanging by a thread but if we're being honest it was fumes. 2018-2021. What? It all runs together. (Nick Ramirez was our 10th best player in 2019. No, I don't remember him either) 2022-Present. A rebuild of the entire org that's showing fruit and gave us some very exciting baseball for almost a full season. Things are moving in the right direction, but slowly. No expectations until now.
  9. There's a park downriver that borders Ecorse and Wyandotte called Council Point Park. THis is where the meeting between Pontiac and the leaders of the other tribes mentioned took place. The meeting decided to attack Fort Detroit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_Point_Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/KnqsLDMuDobdTBdC7
  10. That’s a great point. I love stuff like that. It’s filler that adds nothing of substance to the situation and is meaningless.
  11. they never had home field advantage in the playoffs, other than the 2006 WS which wasn't based on record. That means teams like Oakland and Baltimore had better records. In 2012 they won 88 games. They were tied with the White Sox when we left our final home game on a Tuesday night before a road trip. The Sox went in a spiral and we finished 3 games up on them.
  12. Clapton's always been dodgy. I don't like him. I know he's "good" but he's the eddie money of good guitarists. Bland.
  13. A good friend is one of those tech bros who moved to Boulder. But he has a Suburu. Says it’s getting crazy expensive.
  14. From a movie group I belong to.
  15. or the third? I am almost done with episode 5. I don't like this 3 a week thing. It's hard to find time to watch 3 in a week.
  16. Actually it’s a bad look to assume a criticism of a female writer is based on something “romantic” rather than the work itself. she’s not immune from criticism because of her gender. She’s redundant. “Win streak reached eight straight”. Uses emojis and hashtags unnecessarily and often lifts other people’s work. Nobody suggests a criticism of Mccosky is because he turned down a date.
  17. Ugh. I was merely thinking more the “influencer” route
  18. You'd think he of all people would know Ovechkin's, of all players, nationality.
  19. I'm not at all suggesting Skubal will give a significant discount to the Tigers, or anything. My point is that it's not always about squeezing every last nickel out of a team and ultimately it's the player that picks the contract for their reasons. Scott Boras is Tarik Skubal's employee. There's more to an agent's performance than just a contract and there's more to a contract than the dollars/years.
  20. No more Mickey York... That's a bummer... I figured with Keating retiring... I hope the "new direction" involves people who know what they are doing but we'll see.
  21. philisophically the problem is you have one side (The players) with a single goal. The other side is made up of factions with different goals. Is the fact that the owners can't get their collective **** together a problem for the players to solve?
  22. I don't necessarily agree with the bolded part. Yes, players focus on playing and all that entails but I don't think they're blind to the process or just go with whatever they're told, especially someone with a life changing contract waiting for them. Skubal will get a deal that sets up his family for generations and puts them on a lifetstyle commensurate with hollywood and business moguls. I don't expect Skubal to cave or give the Tigers a break but he will go where he wants to be if the price is also right because it's his life.
  23. I was going to put this in the History thread but decided to do it here. Happy Anniversary to one of the greatest single episodes of all time.
  24. The thing is... the Tigers and team Boras know all of this. We aren't going to come up with a proposal that they haven't considered, either of the sides. There's no secret sauce or magic. And Boras works for Skubal. I see lots of comments like "No was Boras lets that happen..." all the time. Ultimately it's up to the player. The player has a responsibility to themselves and to his peers and those who follow. But that doesn't mean if Boras wants to be as cuthroat as possible the player has to go along. If there is such a thing as sentimental feelings or 'hometown discounts' that's ok. Boras has to go along with it if that's what his client prefers.
  25. Surprise... I got one space related but its a good one. Today in 1968 we almost lost one of our most celebreated astronauts about a year before he made history. To simulate flying the lunar module, NASA had arranged to build Lunar Lander Research Vehicles (LLRV) and Lunar Lander Test Vehicles (LLTV). These vehicles used a turbofan to simulate the moon's 1/6 gravity so that the astronauts could learn how to navigate the controls when trying to land. on May 6, 1968 Neil Armstrong was flying the LLRV when a malfunction caused it to go haywire and at 200 feet Neil had to eject. He was about a half second from death. And in a vehicle like that which can turn many ways ejection could have been fatal. The video below shows the crash... and it's slowed down a little bit. In real time it looks scarier. He got a busted lip and went back to the office. This was the third time he almost died when flying a space related task. (He flew combat missions in Korea so who knows how many times that happened to him then).
