  1. we are reaching the territory where when we elect our next POTUS we could also be dealing with finding a new Chief Justice. Roberts has that the job almost 20 years now. The longest since.... some guys you have never heard of! He will be 70 next year. And a Chief Justice can be filled by an existing member, so a GOP President could elevate a Gorsuch or Barrett. Still requires Senate confirmation. When Roberts was nominated, he was first picked to fill Sanda Day O'Conner. Then Rehnquist died, so Bush pulled that nomination, picked Roberts again to fill that seat and the chief justice seat. Once that was done, he put in Alito to take Sandra's spot. Think how different the country would be if Rehnquist and Ginsberg had lived a bit longer.
  2. You can also go to “subscriptions” under settings on your iPhone and cancel that way. I got dinged for a month when I signed up for the trial when the Tigers were on.
  3. Good take. People are sick of it. As I saw a comedian say a few years ago about why he liked Joe Biden. “If you ask me what Joe Biden did today…. I don’t know. I like not knowing what the president is doing every five minutes”
  4. I like Benetti because I think the role of a baseball TV guy can be on the goofy side. The other day he dropped a “how much ya bench?” reference and I thought only my friend Nick and I remembered that SNL sketch.
  5. I don’t know. As long as **** is being cancelled in Ohio it stays. it’s been a long time since something angered me in politics and this is one. It’s another big line that’s been crossed.
  6. That’s Florida.
  7. It’s fitting that Scarface is on this morning. “I aways tell the truth. Even when I lie”
  8. Eventually scored.
  9. It was anecdotal outrage. Their guy would hit into it and they’d get mad. They ignored when the other team hit into it against your team. I don’t see how you can be a real baseball fan and want the shift banned. It’s innovation and knowledge and whatever Hinch and Harris cooked up at their breakfast in Birmingham the day after the trade deadline seems to be working. That should be celebrated.
  10. I like to pretend we are all in a bar or cafe without the internet trying to figure things out.
  11. I relayed the quote but it wasn’t a friend. I used to hang out at a local neighborhood dive bar, that’s no longer there, and after either the 2008 or 2010 season someone asked what happened to the Tigers that year? I heard a voice down the bar from one of the regulars “too many Mexicans”. It was perfect. Those were fun times. Kids were young. Life was busy. I just had to get out of the house and veg somewhere in peace when my wife watched greys anatomy or whatever. Drink cheap draft beer. Eat a greasy burger. Walk home at midnight.
  12. Didn’t Turnbull throw one when other guys were doing it too? Something was up. I know I can look it up but that’s not fun.
  13. Forget the legacy of Hillary's "Deplorables" comment. Call it what it is. MAGA is a terrorist organization. You have the guy on tape at the debate spreading this crap so it's warranted.
  14. I said this in another thread I think, maybe this one, but outside of a couple of weeks here and there, the team was always competitive. They were in a lot of games they lost. The season was fun. I didn't expect the playoffs but this is no comparison to what we've had. It's the best season since 2016.
  15. I don’t know if Pete would srlurvive a primary. He’s too “national” and would face a lot of pushback. I love the guy and think he’d be a great governor. But he’s not been involved in MI politics directly. As for why he moved here… it’s traverse city. Why not? Maybe his husband wanted to live here and it’s where they wanted to raise the kids. Simple as that.
  16. I was going to take a 1/2 day for this. Things were lining up to where it seemed a no brainer but at the last second I stayed home. Glad I did.
  17. 400K people have linked to the vote registration site from Taylor's instagram post. Normally they get 30K a day total. Now, does that mean they all registered? Who knows. Many of them probably already are.
  18. Despite the odds I think anybody at this point expecting to make the playoffs is setting themselves up for disappointment. Yes, I think it's a success but that's due to the injuries and record despite them. I am disappointed in a few players that brings it down somewhat. But this season, despite a couple of bad weeks here and there in May and June, it's been an enjoyable run. Pretty consistent.
  19. If we are talking 2 or 3 people, then maybe I could entertain the idea, but once you get past that.... no way that many people keep quiet. It's similar to the JFK assassination theories. It's easy to work backwards and look at points in time to say you can plan it.... but going in real time and assuming everything happens that way is not logical. In other words you can recreate the past but you can't predict the future which is what conspiracy theories often require us to do. (Yeah, our patsy Oswald will get a job at a building months in advance that will be on the yet unannounced and unplanned motorcade route, wow, how convenient. Then when we send Jack Ruby to snuff him out before trial, he'll run a bunch of errands in the morning with his little dog, drive all over town, then show up right at the moment Oswald comes out, not a moment too late, even though Oswald will make a last minute request to go back upstairs to get a sweater, whew, glad that happened or else Jack would have been late)
  20. That's not true. It's nothing like Project 2025. Presidents hire district attorneys and they are confirmed by the Senate. They serve during their term, like cabinet officials. https://news.utdallas.edu/social-sciences/political-science-study-questions-narrative-in-2006-u-s-attorney-dismissals/
  21. I think this one is big in an "inside baseball" kind of way.
  22. I'm seeing some lefties suggest something was up too....
  23. The "it was staged" thing is bizarre. Here's what is required for that: 1) Find someone willing to die by getting shot in the head by a sniper 2) Arrange a location for an event that allows this person to set up (obviously this happened) 3) Get the buy in from local law enforcement and perhaps the USSS so that this person isn't dealt with sooner. Everybody has to keep quiet and not leak. 4) That someone has to be so good of a shot to only nick or barely miss the President without killing him. 5) All of these participants have to agree that innocent people can die 6) During the investigation this remains under wraps
