  1. It’s an element of “privilege”. Being a small number of the population and largely in urban areas then a culture where education is stressed then it just gets passed down from generation to generation. success gets passed down. The blatant anti Semitism during and after WWII created isolated communities. We don’t have mass immigration of other Jews coming here to take up the remedial jobs like in other cultures. In Detroit the Jews stuck to their areas of comfort and stayed “high” so to speak.
  2. I’m waiting for the tweet that Cabrera is selling his waterfront mansion in the Pointes. Where he lives in Detroit is in the old money FU area. The titans of industry. AJ may just be trying to capitalize on a hot market. At his level they still don’t have that money for life thing yet. Maybe he just wanted something different. Perhaps an extension is coming and he’s getting a house a few blocks over.
  3. Saw flower moon tonight. Easily best work by Scorsese and DeNiro in a very long time, yes I am including departed and Irishman in that analysis. And Robbie Robertson’s music was fantastic. Don’t know what kind of Oscar category he would be eligible for but it would be a great posthumous honor. Music is tricky because if they incorporated anything from prior work it’s often ineligible. This and Oppenheimer will be like No Country and There will be blood in 2007. I read about 60% of the book prior. Tried to finish it but last night I got to a point where I wanted the movie to finish it off. I didn’t know how it ended.
  4. Some things should be private.
  5. Is it a backhanded compliment? I don’t know. Like assuming Indians are doctors?
  6. Good point. I actually forgot about DH because we didn’t have to think about it too much lately.
  7. He’s 26. He will be playing in Japan in 10 years.
  8. An outfielder with shaky defense is hardly untouchable. Every team has a Kerry Carpenter.
  9. So let’s knock him for the bad system we say hes created by not trading those bad players for good players. #fanlogic And yea… ultimately Chris Ilitch is the only one he answers to. He signs his check.
  10. I want Harris go do well for the extraneous reason to shut up Tigers Twitter who think they know everything. Scott Harris doesn’t give two ****s about what someone on the internet thinks of his performance. They act like he’s doing things for them or at their behest. Like they are mentors. They say things like “Ok kid, now show me something”.
  11. I thought it was mid 90s? I’m not that old yet. I distinctly remember getting a newspaper when it happened, might have been during the paper strike and my UAW mom cancelled it so I had to go get it. The Arab party store guy and another guy there were jokingly asking “did you kill Rabin?” That stuck with me.
  12. I leaned ChatGPT in terms of knowledge and facts is current as of 2021? a few months ago I was researching some things and using Wikipedia. Simple factual things from 50-60 years ago, regarding aerospace crews,( astronauts and X-15 fights, etc) decided to try ChatGPT and the answers were straight up wrong. (An example is I knew 1 of the 3 answers so that was my clue). I corrected it and it apologized. So the next time some geek wants to know this they will hopefully be given correct info.
  13. Players stick together and are unique in knowing the struggles and challenges they face. They don’t talk about it because they know fans and media don’t want to hear millionaires talk about how hard things can be, especially on a personal level. They miss so much of their family time. Not just the fun time but dealing with problems and issues. These guys understand it and if they see a fellow player go thru it they are more sympathetic than we would be. “That could be me and I hope the guys have my back if it is”.
  14. Heard about this guy over the last few days then get on tonight to find out he shot himself as cops were doing a welfare check. So sad.
  15. I think it was moms. Particularly baseball moms. He reminded him of their son as a little boy. He even had the little boy name. he was underrated too. Interesting that you don’t see him around the team or park. He’s still local. Was involved at Michigan. Don’t know if he still is. I’m sure he knows Fetter well.
  16. Remember the Reggie White speech? This thread made me think about it.
  17. Confederate flags and statues are participation trophies.
  18. I like the Pink Floyd suggestion. Had enough mainstream appeal and still with the critics too. I heard an acoustic version of Money and it stood out to me. Sometimes you need to hear someone else do it to appreciate it again I hate AC/DC so I can’t be objective. I don’t know why I just am tired of hearing them. Maybe too much exposure.
  19. I think the Eagles are a solid choice. I guess the question is who is most responsible for the country/rock sound.
  20. Beat writers are obsolete. I can’t imagine many scenarios where an active player needs them or uses them. They are outsiders and MLB has their own staffs and that of their TV and radio partners. Players are walking corporations and don’t hang out in smoky bars shooting the **** with Joe Falls or Charlie Vincent. So guys like Evan and Chris need content.
  21. there's a lot of things we don't talk about here.... I didn't realize the site and it's users had an editorial responsibility to discuss.... everything. This sub forum consists of like 15 regular posters and we have about 5 active threads,of which 2 or 3 might have posts from the last week.
  22. I'm fixing to call him up for a new furnace. He did our A/C a few years ago. He comes out once a year it seems to clean up some things with it but he did say it's on it's last legs. I figure it's better to do that before winter so that I can take advantage of any efficiency over the winter. Probably do my water heater too since we've been here 10 years.
  23. Three Stripes Heating and Cooling. He's local. Family friend of ours. Does all of that stuff for us. Retired Dearborn cop. Lives over by Shemansky Park. So many others recommend him too so it's not just us hawking for a friend.
  24. On Oct 9 in Dearborn at the community center palestinian supporters held a big rally. There was dancing, flag waving, singing... someone got up on stage, described as a "leading local Palestinian activist" who said, quite clearly "Hamas are not terrorists". A lot of locals called out the people at that rally for giving the impression they were cheering for what happened on Oct 7. Biden support amonng Arabs is supposedly down to 17% now. That could matter in a state like Michigan. Of course the alternative is no better friend, in fact a worse one.
