Catholics don’t have a beef with evolution though.

but does anybody with the authority and ability to set policy listen to them? It would be like us sending Lebron James over there.

Whatever it is is not within our knowledge to understand. Mathematically it's very likely there's something like us out there in the depths. When you see images from the Webb telecscope.... how can there not be?

Absolutely. It’s why as a non Catholic I was still involved with the parish my wife grew up in. Service. I coached CYO basketball. ( I didn’t know ****.). I did scouts. I worked pancake breakfasts. I volunteered anywhere I could. We ran the festivals. I could see the impact on the local community which is lower middle classs despite the hierarchy of the church itself and its backwards way there was still opportunity to be fulfilled. You can control what you give and get out of it. I never converted because the threshold is high I think to convert. My wife as a lifelong Catholic can get past things but I can’t knowingly join when there’s obvious things I disagree with. But I can still help those who need it. And I did.

The: "Can we not do this anymore?" 2024 MLB Draft
oblong replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Tigers
My understanding on the history of the draft was that the goal wasn't to make teams better per se.... but to give teams a shot at desirable talent rather than just the big market teams out bidding everyone. The draft was a crapshoot even back then so it wasn't about year to year events. It's about the standouts that pop up periodically being available to smaller clubs. -
That's the key. They pay more because it's less number of games. If there were 170 games they wouldn't do that because the individual games don't mean as much. NFL fans are a different breed of sport fan. In this situation less is more and NFL games are an event. A lot of it, maybe most, is because of gambling and fantasy play. I routinely go to a friends house to watch the game on a projector in his garage with others. In baseball that never happens, not even in a playoff game.

The salaries are following the fees, not the fees following the salaries. People will pay what they are willing to pay regardless if players make $9 million or $90,000 a year. Ticket prices aren't because of payroll. It's what they determine the public wants to pay to watch baseball at this level. The owners just have to share more of it now. Huge payrolls were "ruining" the sport since 1901.

I wasn't disagreeing... just expanding.

one female palestinian hostage that I saw being portrayed as a victim with a medical condition (How dare the Zionists keep someone like that in captivity!) .... was a failed suicide bomber and her medical issues were due to her failure to die properly when carrying out her duty.

Being a space and political junkie causes conflict with me with regard to him. Hard to separate the two.

The: "Can we not do this anymore?" 2024 MLB Draft
oblong replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Tigers
The draft is just one element of a handful of building an organization. You are still limited to small sample sizes when it comes to HS and college players. Drafting and development do go hand in hand but i do think they are also somewhat mutually exclusive. If your 6th round pick becomes a decent MLB player I chalk that up to your minor league coaching staffs and development people. (and the player) Profiling is important but the draft is still a crapshoot and you are lucky to get one good player a year out of what, 20 picks? -

They need his vote for 15 more months.

file this under things you don't see much of anymore and a throwback to how it was and should be.

exactly. That's what I was trying to imply. Israel is turning over convicted, or accused prisoners. Hamas is turning over people who's crime was being Jewish.

He's dropping him back to his NYC days as tabloid fodder and reality show star. A person at a B/C celebrity level. Typically, before norms and decorum went into the wastebasket, a former President would be given some kind of deference. We don't have a modern precedent really of a former President running again to know for sure but I suspect if Jimmy Carter or George HW Bush ran again, they'd be called Mr. Carter or Mr. Bush, if not "The former President" by their primary opponents. Maybe not.

I view many, maybe most, Palestinians as victims of Hamas. There's a massive misinformation campaign going on and it is making many people, including young people and media here in the US, ignorant. I've had local people consistently tell me Hamas are not terrorists. It's a culture thing. I live in Dearborn and have many Arab and Muslim friends. They are scared for their family and friends back home. I get it. But the blame falls squarely on Hamas and they will never admit to that. Too many leaders in that world and community are too sympathetic to Hamas and share the goal of Israel not existing. Hostage exchanges are treated as equal between the two sides when one group is turning over 3 year olds and the other are turning over failed suicide bombers.

The Michigan GOP has less money in their account than I suspect a lot of people here have in their accounts. They're trying to sell a building they don't own.

as a wrestling fan growing up I still fall into the "kuh-mah-la" pronounciation instead of "kah-muh-luh". Seems more natural to me. But NOtice that Christie has fallen back to referring to Trump as "Donald".

wow... that's amazing. I'm on a list like that which began around the same time. It was about Band Names. We'd come up with Band Names. That's it. Most of the people on the list I never met and never will. I check and it is still going on. Someone once put it all into a 17 page word document.
