  1. Most voters don’t study this stuff as much as you or I or others here. Careful of the echo chamber.
  2. From the article below. Trump, who has called the efforts to keep him off the ballot “nonsense” and “election interference,” is likely to try to appeal Tuesday’s Colorado ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. Courts have ruled against similar efforts to get Trump banned from the ballot in Arizona, Michigan and Minnesota. The plaintiffs challenging Trump’s eligibility in Michigan filed an appeal to that state’s high court on Monday. I’m curious on the legal reasoning that a president isn’t “an officer of the US government “.
  3. Good point. I also think overstatement of Trump hatred and not everybody being in tune with his threats to democracy talk. They figure we survived already and “they are all crooked”.
  4. This music is amazing.
  5. Apathy among young voters could play a role. They seem fickle. Gaza and student loans… things like that. Trumps vote totals won’t go up…. But maybe Joe’s doesn’t either.
  6. Charlie LeDuff arraigned for domestic violence.
  7. I detected a lot of that from those guys. Northrup. Stanley. Lolich. I think it’s natural because they were the last of the non free agent era so it stings to miss it by that much. The guys that came up in the 70s and 80s made good money but it wasn’t FU/generational wealth money either. A run of the mill 10 year player in 1992, facing life after age 33 with maybe a few hundred grand in the bank leftover… you still gotta find something to do. Can’t live off that. Into the 90s it got better for them. Someone like a Steve Avery could finish their career and “retire” and begin raising their family in a decent middle class normal life. I ran into him in a CYO league. His kids were playing. Fast forward to another local guy, Derek Lowe. Nobody that special but he’s setup for life in a bigger way. Today’s comparable players are one step further. Mansions, etc.
  8. He did that in his post retirement too. Also Jason Thompson.
  9. I'm also fearful of what a GOP congress could do in terms of validating the election if it goes against them. If the GOP keeps control...
  10. Gordie Howe was a little bit like that. He was viewed as being too naive and accepting of whatever the Red Wings management told him in regard to salary information. "Oh yeah Gordie, you are the highest paid guy. For sure... don't worry"
  11. I'm not counting out the effect of the Dobbs decision to create that seismic shift.
  12. depending on how far back you go... they had jobs.
  13. I belong to a facebook group called Historic Film Locations where they post before/after shots. There was one of the truck chase scene from the first movie. I always thought it was gratiot but it turns out it was not only Grand River, but a portion I drive on a lot when I go to events at the stadiums or theaters. This is on GR right as you exit off the lodge. The Motor Casino would be right behind you on the right. Up ahead is 75 and on the left would be the "District Detroit", er, I mean the parking lots. The continuity is off though because where the truck ends up is off Michigan Ave and 30th street, just west of the Corktown area... so not really in the direction they are going at all.
  14. Brad Pitt turned 60 yesterday....
  15. The blackouts exist because of outfits like Bally. If Amazon takes them over I can't see them making the games Prime only. That might be too far for the organizations. Amazon could use the cable broadcasts to promote their prime product. For those locally without cable then they'd have to use Prime. So win win I guess. Then the broadband companies will hike their internet prices.
  16. We don’t have to register in MI either but you have to pick a party’s ballot. You can’t mix and match races.
  17. I have a 28 game package so that’s just about enough. Maybe when I retire I will get more but I don’t think so. It’s basically every third game. Friday nights plus another weekday game per series. I don’t make the April games a priority. I know the people around me, some for 20 years. You can’t go all out or else you go broke. I occasionally eat but usually stick to 2 beers. No going out before or after unless I go with a friend I haven’t seen in awhile. If I take a non family member then my guest usually buys my beer. But if can be a grind sometimes especially when you have a stretch of3-4 games on a long homestand.
  18. It feels weird being in here. Like I walked into a bar and realized all my friends have been going there for years without me. I just don’t want to be that guy at opening day of the Tigers getting in everybody’s way that’s there all year.
  19. Yep. They've built up a lot of goodwill this year, enough to even make me pay attention. And honestly.... they do not need the money. I wouldn't be surprised if they walk this back some. I don't like to disrespect you guys by calling myself a Lions fan because I know real fans take the bad with the good. I'm fair weather. It's been a lot of fun to watch this year. I've watched more football this year than any time since the 90's. A home playoff game will be the biggest sporting event in the city of Detroit... ever. Just a single home game. Bigger than a WS game..... bigger than a Stanley Cup and bigger than the Super Bowl when it was here. You guys earned this and for this to happen is lousy, especially right down the stretch since you should be feelilng great as the season winds down.
  20. That's ****ty. I haven't talked to my friend yet but he had tickets from the Silverdome days until about 5 or 6 years ago. He finally had enough and felt like a sap writing that check. A few years ago they reached out to him and he went back. Now this? Of course they see the resale market and I know many who get the tickets, sell off Thanksgiving, plus a GB game and a few others at double the price and end up covering their whole lot so I guess supply/demand is at play here. But I also know many who go to every single game.
  21. Totally. I've come to accept that the GOP has a very good shot at winning and of those running I think she's the most "normal", with Christie, but I don't think he has a prayer of getting the nomination. We have such low standards now that as long as the person is not totally bat**** crazy then I guess he or she will have to do.
  22. I'm not sure yet they are decent. Half the ones I hear about havne't cracked MLB yet. You don't fill in talent with FA signings until you are certain they are servicable MLB players. At a high level I see a few good pitchers with injury issues and a bunch of utilility guys and Greene and Tork. I'm not bashing them. Just not yet sold on most of them.
  23. The annual joke swap on SNL was this weekend. Very good as usual.
  24. How strong is the lure to be the boss of baseball operations vs. the intellection satisfaction of doing things the right way as you see it? What I'm getting at is would Harris have taken the job unless he felt Chris Ilitch will do the right at the right time? Of coruse he could have lied to him. My sense is this feeling that he's meek I see from the usual Twitter folks is simply because Harris won't do something just to do it for marketing and big bang appeal you get in the off season. It will have to be the right move. With the money coming off the books this year and the young talent coming up this is the time to see what they are made of. Don't waste 2-3 years that the big FA signing gives you the performance if we find out these players aren't that good. Then we are stuck with him in the later years of the deal while they once again regroup. 2024 is when we evaluate the fruits of the losing of 2018-2022. Maybe Avila left us something.
