  1. regarding the JV trade.... remember that he still had some question marks and had 10-5 rights. Allegedly the Tigers had to convince him to waive them and obviously he wouldn't go to a crappy team. And they had to pay part of his deal. It wasn't like the Tigers were sitting in the catbird seat when it came to moving him. I don't fault Avila for the returns on the "stars". JD was sitting around in FA waiting to be signed. Fans over value their own guys.
  2. That’s where I am at. People got mad when they downplayed winning the division. Just because the fans possibly overrated these guys doesn’t mean they did a poor job.
  3. Just out of curiosity bow do you know the Tigers “didnt even try” for either of those players? How do you know contact wasnt made with an agent or a rep? who are these players the tigers should have signed? And how much would they cost? Who should they have trade for and who should we have traded? Would the other team have accepted that offer? Real life isn’t Madden.
  4. This team has 99 problems and a Hinch ain’t one
  5. Where does Bobby Witt Jr rank on the "It's fun to just watch this guy play" spectrum? Trout. Ohtani. De La Cruz.
  6. In MI in particular I am wondering when someone says "they smoke" has it transitioned to where the inference is weed vs tobacco?
  7. I'm reading a book called Wingman, about the relationship between Williams and John Glenn that developed during the Korean War. Williams was not happy that he was called up for duty again after serving in WWII. He was still in the Marine reserves at the time. He tried to get out of it any way he could. That was news to me. However he did his duty and did it very well. They called him "Bush" as in "Bush League". John Glenn was called "Old Magnet Ass" because he attracked flak. He would do his bombing runs, then go back several times to shoot the area up "because he saw something".
  8. I knew it was going to be a laugher so my wife and I put on The Iron Claw. Great movie. I already knew the story as I was a big wrestling fan in the 80's, but my wife never heard of them and she was very into it. Usually she only lasts about an hour when we watch something before she dozes off. It takes us two nights to watch a movie.
  9. There are a lot of fundamentalist evangelicals who think it’s impossible for a husband to rape his wife as it’s her duty to “provide”… like in the same sense it’s impossible for someone under the age of consent to consent.
  10. That’s why I never cared much about DiMaggio’s streak. Meaning I thought it was overrated. Williams outhit him during that time.
  11. That's great. Another good use for campaign dollars
  12. and sadly... a cross. With Bible verse in bio.
  13. Joe Piscopo was trending on Twitter and I thought maybe he died but it's because he was part of that fawning group. He's a right wing radio guy there now.... What would ol' blue eyes say about that? I can envision Phil Hartman's Sinatra making fun of him like he did Steve and Edie.

    MAP PR0N!

I want to see another one based on the "Heart of Rock and Roll"
  15. ha ha Yes I remember that... while wearing space suits with patches from another Apollo mission. Mostly I just want to see the Gemini 8 capsule. I have a goal to see all the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo capsules. The one in London might be hard though. Not to diss Armstrong himself because while he was a little aloof, his peers consistently praised his seriousness. He didn't preach, wasn't a loud mouth, and when he spoke up about something you knew it was legitimate and his words were always very precise. But he lucked out with that mission. His only other flight was Gemini 8 which had serious problems a few hours into it, they almost died. A stuck thruster put them into a violent roll, almost a full revolution per second. That all happened out of contact with mission control and his solution meant they had to immediately end it. The fact Apollo 11 was the first to land meant all of the work on preceeding missions had to go as planned, not something they could reasonably predict given the unknowns. And when they swapped objectives on Apollo 8 and 9, it meant he rotated into Apollo 11 rather than 12 due to his backup assignment. It originally was meant for Pete Conrad's crew. But he never claimed special credit for being first. He knew he was part of a 400,000 member team.
  16. I wonder if the ensuing lack of a 2020 minor league season plus the crap that was 2021 meant that the 2020 draft class was permanently harmed in terms of development. Might be worthy of a research project to see where the picks went and how the ensuing drafts of 21 and 22 croweded them out of positions, if that indeed occurred.
  17. Along that stretch I noticed signs about zero tolerance for using your phone. They called them "distracted driver free zones" or something like that. Having the trucks around was just enough to keep me entertained and alert but it was nice to not have to use my feet. Giving them their space to go around another truck, that kind of thing. I enjoy it. I wanted to give myself more time to visit the Armstrong museum but coudn't swing it.
  18. That's how I feel. Aside from the hitting I don't think they are playing bad baseball. The best teams lose 40% of the time. That's 2-3 games a week.
  19. As a kid driving to TN every year I hated Ohio. As an adult we used to make that trip very early in the morning to beat the Cincy rush hour. Last month I went by myself and Ohio didn't bother me until I got to Dayton. From Toledo to Dayton it was great, it's cruise control time and little traffic. As a driver it makes a huge difference I think.
  20. I came across a former teacher at the TN School for the Deaf. It's located in Knoxville. She had 2 students from Memphis. The kids would take a plane back and forth from Memphis to Knoxville each day. That was cheaper than a bus or cab and legally they have to provide transportation. I've done the drive west from Knoxville on I 40 and at some spots if you let off the pedals your vehicle will approach 80 to 90 on the decline from the mountains to just hills.
  21. He's just saying nice things about a team leaving town. What do you expect a manager to say?
  22. These things tend to sort themselves out. I'm not opposed to signing Flaherty but what kind of deal would he command and Pitchers around the age of 30 make me nervous long term. With pitching depth is that a wise way to spend FA money that way?
  23. Considering the drug scandal.... sure seems like the Angels have things in order.
