  1. and continuing on..... indoor baseball doesn't count.
  2. I've said this before but the stirrups is a good example of changing values in baseball, especially in context of today's game with the things modern players do that some people don't like. That stirrup look was once considered flashy. Jim Bouton talked about it in his book. The generation of black players that began to thrive after integration started wearing their stirrups like that to show more socks. It was their way of bonding with each other. The old timers of the time didn't like it. I see it and it makes me feel like you do... yes, that's how you do it. It's how I did it when I played.
  3. that just reminded me we never watched the last episode of season 3. that's how much we were into it.
  4. I remember when Seger wouldn't get in... then he releases a new album and he got in. The historical element is great beause I learn about people from a long time ago that I wasn't aware of. And the industry itself has changed so much in the last 10-15 years I wonder how that will play out. Who from 2008-2025 will be considered Rock and Roll to the point of getting into the HOF? There is no modern form of Rock and Roll in terms of mainstream appeal.
  5. Of course Mickey has his flannel.
  6. Karl Ravech said he’d had highlights for us “after the Yankee game”
  7. We had fun at the game. It was worth the $350 I spent overall. My son isn’t into baseball like I am and this game has the adrenaline rush. Sure they lost but we had a good time. Ben Stiller and Timothy Chalamet were sitting underneath us. Not close mind you. We were in the upper bowl they were in the first row behind the hockey boards. But people kept stopping for selfies. that might have been the most energetic game in that buildings history.
  8. I know the hardest I ever laughed in the theater came from 3 movies: Naked Gun (when he was peeing with his mic on) Dumb and Dumber (when they ate the burger with the hot sauce/peppers) Something about Mary (the hair "gel") But I think laughter is not always the best indicator. I can think something is funny but only chuckle. Like Fletch. If I tried to tell someoen who didn't see it why it was funny, they'd just nod. But if you watch it, you should chuckle throughout. It's not Airplane funny but I don't think it makes it less funny. Just different. Dr. Strangelove is to me an all timer but I get that darker humor and real satire goes over people's heads. Superbad is one I finally watched about 3 years ago and really laughed hard. I missed out on it at the time and just never got around to it. Watched with my son.
  9. so tough because of the genres. Spoofs? Satire? Raunch? Zany? Character driven?
  10. Black church is different than white church. They had a good time and were in a good mood. I overheard a co worker the other day talking with her husband, she's black, about whether they were going to another friend's church, also black and a pastor.
  11. better lobbyists.
  12. riiiiiiight. Thats the problem with using vice taxes for things other than addressing the vice. What would happen to our municipal budgets if everybody woke up tomorrow and decided "I'm not smoking anymore".
  13. Opus Dei. That is the scary sect.
  14. You don’t trade Skubal if you are leading the division unless your staff is stacked. Then you consider it. Otherwise you ride. The Tigers didn’t trade Scherzer in 2014.
  15. I don't know where the line is.... but I'm definitely uncomfortable with the encouragement of it... especailly with the in studio "bet of the day" or whatever they call it. Frankly I think the country's economy would be far better off if all forms of gambling, outside of Casinos in Vegas, Atlantic City, and real Indian reservations were gone. That includes lotteries, stratch offs, etc. I frequent my gas station a lot b/c I work from home and I enjoy going up to get a tea or coffee or banana. It's a nice 10 minute walk. The $$ I see spent on lotteries is insane.
  16. Getting Dave Grohl vibes.
  17. Rick Rizz could have succeeded here but the Tigers and WJR botched the whole thing. He's very well liked in Seattle. I was watching one of their games years ago during a free preview and thought "I like this guy...." then I realized it was him. So that means something for me.
  18. Mario was a pro. You could put him in any sport in any team and never know he was there. That's a compliment. He did a fine job. If he didn't have Rod as a partner he might still be doing the games... or someone's games.
  19. No light sabers. No force. Just a gritty series. I'd say watch Rogue One because that's the immediate prequel the first Star Wars movie and this is the prequel to that. Not necessary but I consider Rogue One to be #2 behind Empire in the overall SW universe ranking.
  20. Their only use for Catholics is their pro life stance. And I assume JD would turn on them too.
  21. The last time they won was when my wife and I finally got a chance to get away just the two of us, after we had kids. My oldest was 7. This was for our 10th wedding anniversary and we went to south haven. I remember watching the Celtics series. I got tickets Thursday, nose bleeds, for my son and I. He’s now 24. He’s had a rough couple of weeks between a breakup and totaled car. I’m glad I was able to perk him up. It’s only money.
  22. This game was on a 4 hour pace at one point. We left after the 6th. Early wake up call. I knew we would have to go before 9 but I was hoping it would be in the 8th or 9th by then. God I hate Montero. Guy still is able to be slow AF even with a pitch clock. Just ****ing pitch man. Every time he took it down to 0:02.
  23. I do believe that those guys would struggle more in today's world where the pitchers are also doing analysis at a higher level. Attitudes on pitching approach evolved so Mantle and Hornsby would be facing guys who are adjusting. Williams would eat this **** up. Of course I think the strategy for hitters has been the same but we have more ways of identifying and quantifying it so when guys say "they don't do that", they are, they just don't know it. Like Joe Morgan being against analytics but he played the way analytics supports, he just had a bug up his butt. They just call the strategy different things but the concepts are the same.
