You are the one confusing things. The NHL has and had a hard cap. MLB doesn’t. The CBT is intended as a deterrent but it’s not a rule. There are penalties to be paid. The CBA specifically says there’s no limit on deferrals. this deal doesn’t really alter the landscape in my opinion. If you were told he signed a $450M deal for 10 years is that crazy? No.

Wrong. Why would they be expected to pay on $70M when that’s not the actual value? The “luxury tax” was supposed to do what the text of the rules allows the clubs to do. Ohtani wasn’t going to end up in Pittsburgh or Colorado or Baltimore. The luxury tax or CBT is not a salary cap. It’s within the rules and didn’t severely alter the pay landscape.

It’s no different than not paying taxes today on your investments you will get in 20 years isn’t it? Why should they be taxed on money not being paid? Massive is a subjective term.

I messed around with it a few days ago and had figures like $37M = $70M in 10 years. But on the surface getting $20M for the next 10 years, then $680M in years 11-20..... not outrageous to me. The question to ask is what is the value in years 1-10 compare to the corresponding years 11-20? I.E. Value of a year's in 2028 vs 2038. In the year 2038 he'll get paid $68M. We've been saying this since 1975, 'In year X, $YM will seem like peanuts".

I have been to 2 Pistons games and yes, it's an entirely different atmosphere, unless it's all about the other team. This is my first wings game this season. Man, I hope my connection doesn't retire soon like he says. It spoils the hell out of me having access to his company's suite. It's not fancy in terms of food/drink but I dont care. Being able to sit comfortably with a bathroom a few feet away.... that will be hard to give up. I'm trying not to get too used to it but I've been blessed to go to 4-5 games a year there since it opened. Right inside the blue line.

The quest for knowledge is a gift to us they we should pursue. For many religious people it's a threat because it contradicts their truth. Not all. Growing up I heard silly things like races should be kept separate, they shouldn't mix. Beards were wrong. tattoos were wrong. Earrings were wrong. Rock music, even something as simple as electric guitars and heavy drums were wrong. Beer was wrong. 40 years later through social media I get a peek into that world again and many of those barriers are rightfully gone. But I so want to ask these people who I haven't cared about, nor them me, in that time since graduation... "What changed? I see your daughter married a black fella. You said that was wrong in 1985. The male teachers have beards and goatees. You said that was wrong in 1985. What changed?"
