and it's disappointing to see it so prominent on the left. This is not a right wing thing. Sure there's extreme right wing anti semites but I don't think the increase we've seen the last 2 weeks is due to them. It's the college crazies.

I think even bigger markets won't make a difference. It would in ratings beause more people in those markets will watch, and by default those fans in other markets, but I don't think ratings matter much everywhere else. A random person in Milwaukee or Charlotte or Alberquerque, not from Boston/NY/LA isn't going to be more likely watch the WS if those teams are in it. It all comes down to the rise of other sports, especially football, and viewers having more options. Until the explosion of cable and satellite, and streaming/DVR, viewers watched what was on. And the World Series was often the only thing on at that time. Now they can watch the NFL or a show on Hulu or Netflix. People who watch TV have a backlog of shows/movies they have to get to. It's not because the game is suffering or did anything wrong.

I'm using it less, not intentionally, but just because it's not giving me anything I want so I naturally just don't go as much. It's not informative. I might do another purge of who I follow to make it more specific to sports and entertainment rather than news. I keep trying threads but it's not doing it yet for me.

In that aforementioned Posnanski book he talked about one of the old time pitchers, I can't remember which, but he was good enough to be on his top 100, that purposefully avoided strikeouts. He wanted them to hit it. He thought he was more effective at getting outs. By going for strikeouts he risked hard hit balls.

I’ve said this before but I wouldn’t mind if this were done later in extras like the 11th or 12th. At that point I think both clubs just want to move on. You burn thru pitchers and it affects the upcoming games. Starting pitchers are brought out, position players… it gets silly. I mean with the pitch clock proving to reduce games by a significant number it’s now ok to play real baseball for 2 or 3 more innings. Then you can introduce gimmicks to just get it over with. But even doing that I don’t think is required. Let the clubs employ an emergency starting pitcher that isn’t active but can be used after inning 10. You can rotate it every few games. Let a AAA pitcher come up for 2 or 3 games to live the good life. No service time accrual unless they pitch but they get a ML salary. Then he can go back for his regular start and another comes up. You can figure out a rotation within their existing workload. Hockey has a similar setup with goalies. There’s always one on standby in case goalie #2 gets hurt. It’s usually some beer league guy. A few years ago in Toronto one of them came in and the team came back to win.

For a long time it was on TBS all afternoon and on Nick every night for a few hours. My wife always had it on and I work from home so it was prominent. Recently they moved it to the morning. It is a comfort show for sure. Some of the jokes don’t hold up, gay ones in particular but otherwise I find myself laughing quite a bit. More so than its original run. I didn’t like the clock initially but mid season someone at a game asked me about it and I realized I forgot all about it… so that’s good. I like the playoff games ending about 25 min earlier. you are not the old guy. I feel about it like I do when there’s extreme weather conditions but they keep playing. Both teams are abiding by same rules and conditions but the fabric of the game shifts and you make luck too much of an element. And has it even been shown yet to reduce long inning games? But having said that I hate the banning of the shift more.

Regarding the Miggy deal in hindsight. Trying to be as objective and contextual… knowing what happens would you as a Tigers fan make that deal in 2007, or be happy about it, if Cabrera was already signed to a contract paying him what he eventually got? If Florida had signed him jn 2006 to a deal until 2023?

I don't know if it was original run or not, but that episode was on the first night my wife was in the hospital after my first son was born, she'd had a C-section. The first Red Wings game seemed very intrusive with the ads.... Having them is one thing but digitally changing them during play is distracting, which I guess is the point obviously. It's sensory overload trying to follow the puck and players then other things are blinking and flashing. When I do sit and watch a game I'm usually playing a game on my tablet or browing my phone.

That's the "crazy thing" you are referring to in the post prior. Have you seen PBA lately? Like the bowling thing? Gimmicks to draw viewers doesn't work. A 23 year old isn't going to suddenly watch a baseball game because of something due to the broadcast or delivery. There's a definite line that exists where viewing habits changed permanently. I'd say those 40 and over... the era before On Demand and later DVR, then streaming, became prevalent. Until then you watched what was on. You were spoon fed. Yes you had 100 channels but it was mostly crap and your TV viewing was based on the same 10 channels. You had the 3-4 local channels, TNT, TBS, ESPN and some others depending on your tastes. That was when A&E and Discovery showed quality programs. Pre reality TV. If you were of viewing age in that environment then you still watch TV the old way. After that, the viewer is in total control. They won't watch a 3 hour game unless they are an absolute die hard of the team, like college football fans are. Otherwise they just see a recap video on Tik Tok or just see references to the game's key moments. The younger people are not perceptive to being a captive audience like that. This isn't a criticism, just reality. Last week I asked my son what network the Michigan game was on, he said NBC. My mother in law was there and said "Oh, channel 4..." My son had no idea what that was. He doesnt think of channels that way. Fox 2 isn't Channel 2, NBC isn't Channel 4, or ABC channel 7. To him it's 232 or just the tablet icon on the guide when he clicks "Sports" and that's the game listed.. it could be on Telemundo and he wouldn't know the difference. It just says Michigan.

After I do the final grass cut in the back tonight and the wife goes to Windsor.... I know what I am doing tonight. Start a fire, get some beers..... what can go wrong?

I can see a scenario where deals are cut to ask certain questions so POTUS is instructed to call on them at some point. But I can’t see a normal journalist agreeing if they know that’s the only questions. It’s fiction sure but the show did have former WH staff as writers. On the season 2 finale of the west wing Bartlett was to call on a certain reporter first in order to help calm things down initially (whether he was to run again after revealing he concealed MS). I won’t spoil it. That run of episodes is the greatest thing ever on network TV.
