Not so much cheating but eliminating or restricting the methods of voting. Republicans think you should be only allowed to vote on Election Day between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm and you stop counting votes at 9 pm so that the media can declare a winner at 11 pm.

Maybe this convo should be moved to the discussion thread but I really don't want him on the team. I think he's going to be a head case. If he's on the team, fine, but don't build around him or plan on him being an anchor in the rotation. Don't base another deal on "Well we have him already". Because he might leave.

I could watch Uncomfortable DeSantis videos all night long...

There's people on twitter who legit believe that Harris cares what they think.

yeah the spamming of memes needs to stop. Engage all you want but doing nothing but posting pictures and tweets is not engaging. It's littering and does not add any value to the site. It's pollution. You need to stop or else you will be stopped.

2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread
oblong replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
That was such an awesome moment and makes me sad to think about how much fun it was at Comerica Park during that run. -
I always like to point out that Gretzky said his dream was to play SS for the Detroit Tigers. So he wanted to be Alan Trammell. Wonder if Tram knows that? On a similar note, last week after a game a friend and I got to talking about drummers, then that led to Rush, then Geddy Lee.... and we wondered if he used to be a Tigers fan since he came up before the Blue Jays existed. I know he's a huge baseball fan and has maybe the largest collection of memorabilia outside of the baseball HOF. He made a large donation to the Negro League Museum.

I don't know that getting something for him was his job. His job is to improve the ballclub and if someone else wasn't offering something he felt improved the ballclub then it's his job to not make that move. "Improve the ballclub" is a broad term that can mean both player personnel and business considerations. Keeping a good player on the team isn't a bad outcome. Trading ERod was an objective assigned by fans and media but not necessarily by his actual bosses.
-
It shows the difference of a national writer who looks at from a broader perspective rather than local fans/media who only look at it from one team's perspective.

I start my work day at home and put on Fox 2 News and there's this strange sporting event on involving people from other countries that seemingly never ends. WHen it's finally completed they spend 10 minutes showing me half the participants hugging and crying.
-
Don’t make me say nice things about him.
-
If he opts out and his agent calls the Tigers Harris will be like “new phone who dis?’ He is being polite and diplomatic now because he’s on his team and may be for a few more years. The second he’s not then he’s done with him.
-
I’m not sure he’s worth more than his current deal. I’m fine if it opts out and leaves.

Kind of a gift on strike 3 but whatevs -
He's like Nick Adams.... so good I'm not sure it's just a burner account.
-
You have to gather evidence and it appears all of the evidence came from the GOP sources and that took some time to work though since they wouldn't just volunteer it. If they had arrested him in July 2021 they wouldn't have had a lesser chance at conviction.
-
and if a little less means the level of crap then why bother? Truth is we simply don't know the teams or the players involved so it's all bull**** speculation.
-
Those are also risks the obtaining team has to carry and that factors into the value they offer. The Tigers can't force a team to make a deal.
-
As I said earlier.... there's risks with ERod. The opt out, both taking it and not taking it. You could get a rental. You could get stuck with junk. The fact he left last year for whatever reason. Fans seem to think those risks meant he needed to be moved especially since this year is presumed lost. Fair enough. But those are risks other teams know and would have to assume. Therefore his value is affected. So do you just dump him for a random minor leaguer with little hope? I can't see a team willing to move much to get him for those reasons alone. I said all along Harris didn't have to make trades just to make trades. This isn't 2017. There's no crime in keeping a solid player for the fans this year who already bought tickets.
-
That reflects the changes over time as leagues have their own programming now. In the past writers and the media would brag that the teams needed them to sell tickets and promote the brand. Now... nobody buys papers. Everything is online. You have MLB Network and deals with ESPN and Fox and Turner. The players aren't hanging around with the writers like they used to. For one they don't live in the same areas like before. They most likely don't drink. They are busy working out and staying healthy. There's nothing really the papers offer us as fans anymore.
-
The response to this non trade has been remarkable and reveals the worst about instant news and discussion points. Fans were ready to talk about the trade, it didn't happen, now they are pissed because they couldn't talk about it.

Get ready for the drumbeat of “Obama judges” and “Biden’s DOJ”

The more I think about that Henning tweeet I believe it. That’s his way of backtracking his initial criticism once he got more info. I do believe Harris had an agreement from Eduardo then he reneged. Harris won’t admit that because he won’t publicly bash his player so his comments are guarded.
-
Henning does Henning and suggests that Eduardo agreed to the dodgers deal initially then backed out. Can’t tell if that’s his opinion or a sourced allegation. All the reasons people give for having to trade him are considerations team have to make in receiving him and what that price will be.
