I’m think Gardenhire is as all marketing. The team will suck so let’s get someone to fake legitimacy.

This the COVID thread?

Going to the Masonic tonight to see these folks....

When it comes to managers I go by what the players say. Especially Sparky it seems like his guys really admired him. Fryman named his son George and Tram and Gibby talk him up a lot. Managers don't teach them to play. But that role has changed over the years as we have more analytics and the players have gotten "bigger". Before I think a big part of their job was on the babysitting side of things. Curfews, rules, etc. Now the players are their own corporations and know how to take care of themselves, millions of dollars are at stake, and they have agents and handlers.

No. But if one of these nutjobs gets run over by someone, anyone, trying to get into the medical facility, then the tragedy is on them and them alone. Their little cosplay games cannot interfere with people's lives. They are rotten spoiled punks that need a job or something to occupy their feeble minds.

Jim Leyland said once the game starts that managing pitchers was the primary job of a manager and that managing in the AL was always harder than the NL because in the NL those decisions were often made for you due to when the P came up in the battine lineup. That always stuck with me because of the old conventional wisdom that managing in the NL was harder.

Yep. I was addicted to it then around 2006 or so I moved from regular to diet, then quit diet. I lost about 10 pounds immediately after Coke then another 10 after Diet. I was consuming maybe 40 ounces a day. The only time I have it now, which is very rare, would be in a mixed drink at something like a wedding. After a 10 mile race last September downtown I couldn't find a post race water but my wife gave me a coke, took one sip, and my body composition after 10 miles in 75 degree sunny weather in the afternoon didn't agree. It tasted awful.

back in 2019 we visited family in Dallas. We went to Six Flags. This was in July. From the top of one of hte rides you can see this stadium, along with the Cowboys place. We made it thru Six Flags in about 3 hours, we asked if it's always that dead and they said "In July nobody comes out here except tourists".

He was driving his wife to the doctor for a worsening medical condition then spends two days in jail while the nation laughs at him. Life can be cruel sometimes.

Is tanking a thing? Or is it “I’m not spending a few million bucks more just to win 73 games instead of 63. Would rather invest that money elsewhere”. I don’t think orgs make decisions to get a higher pick. I think they assume that.extra cost for marginal ML players is not wise investments.

Convince me that an ambulance in the act of an emergency can’t run down someone blocking a road…. Because an act of speech should not hinder someone’s life. If you block that then you are accepting a bad fate.

I’m laughing my ass off at the suggestion that a congressional hearing is “looking into something” rather nothing more than a gigantic grandstanding opportunity in an election year over an issue 3-4 years ago because the majority has nothing else to run on.

I wonder if he can help with curveball.

To me the top Leyland moment is when he broke down after the 2011 division clincher. Detroit had just come out of hte recession, the auto industry hit hard, and you could tell that he as the kid of a blue collar worker really wanted the fans to know how much they appreciated their support given all of that and he hoped they gave them something to look forward to and enjoy. For him to think about that while celebrating tells you what kind of man he is. Like Sparky he always thought about the little people and being decent.

I'm seriously supposed to follow and take serious a story where all I see are pictures of Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rand Paul and a bunch of other anti vax covidiots? Sorry I am not wasting my time. You can wade into that cesspool and get in bed with them and hope you don't get rabies or syphylis.
-
don't bitch to me. I'm just going by what I am reading today. If you want me to believe that the government created covid so that shareholders could make money... I'm not listening to that bull****. Go talk to flat earthers. I'm not reading the ****ing NY Post. This little crusade of yours on this topic is hilarious and tragic. "Hey everyone... remember this from 3-4 years ago..." Let's talk about Vince Foster.

He suggested to Lucas to implement the scrawl at the beginning of Star Wars. After he showed it to his peers (Spielberg, Coppolla, etc.) Milius is like "Ok but I dont know where or when this is taking place? What's the backstory?" That's the legend at least.... Lucas modeled the story on old serials so maybe it's false. But I like it.
-
Milius is great. I need to find that documentary on him. I read some Hollywood books on directors and it's fascinating the circles he ran in. He saved Star Wars for George Lucas. Definite black sheep among that group in the early 70's but they didn't run from him. He was one of them and did it his own way. John Goodman's character in Lebowski is based on him.

I'm sorry but you all sound like a bunch of whiny crybabies. Bodies were being stacked in hallways and in portable coolers and health care workers are risking their lives trying to treat people and dying while doing so and it's like "OMG, I had to wear a mask and be 6 feet apart...." So yeah... **** the critics.
-
I don't think that's an unfair way to look at it. It's the 9th round. By that point you still have good players but there's issues, otherwise they woudn't be there to pick. How many times did they draft someone in rounds 6-12 where they had similar conversations with agents? This one hit. At that point you are gathering as much info as possible and this is just another piece of it. Teams have info on hundreds of players each draft, that's their job. If someone read your comment to mean "They just went in there blind and listened to Scott Boras" then that's on them to be wrong.
-
There is a McCosky article from 2019 that allegedly shows the thinking. According to this Team Boras pushed them over the edge in making the selection but the Tigers certainly knew of him and had him around that position "along with a lot of other people". When you get to that point in the draft who knows what goes into it. Agents certainly have an interest in selling their guys and clubs know that.... I split this up into two posts because the site was giving me fits.
