what kind of value would he have to someone else?
-
Ah, back to a "normal" time for a game.

"Pretty decent chance" is peak Nate Silver. Just throw **** out there with enough cover so that when he's wrong he can claim "Well I particularly didn't say he would be recalled". I'm not sure he's capable of ever fully answering a question with a simple yes or no answer. Lots of people in that thread I unfollowed. The world has changed so much that polling is becoming useless. That impact goes beyond elections. Corporations used polling and that kind of research and now they will find themselves not knowing what to do. As people gain more control over their choices in what they consume and why it means big business has to figure out how to give them what they want and to convince them to want what they provide. For generations people were force fed. Now everybody is on their own island and we can't figure out what they think or want. They'll tell us when they vote and buy/watch something.

Saw on the twitter... Alito can't control his wife but he wants to control yours.

If he doesn’t show something better throughout this year then it’s time to look for alternatives. That’s what this year is about. I’ve been patient with him but at some point you have to move on. If he goes on elsewhere to hit 40 bombs as a DH then God bless him. But an org doesn’t have to sit around waiting for a DH or below average 1B to “figure it out”. He won’t be a David Ortiz type player.

I don't know why but I never bothered to figure out if you could rewind... I thought I was stuck.

are you complaining that they called yesterday's game but not today's? What would you have done if the decision was yours?
-
After about a month or whatever it was with using the Bally's App, my only real complaint is the pregame and game are considered different "programs" so that if I put the app on during the pregame and then go about my business, like working, I look up and sudden it ended and I have to hit "watch" again to get to the game. The app usually goes dark during commercial breaks so my eyes and ears don't notice when nothing is going on.

There's a Hilton and a couple of "boutique" hotels just a few blocks away. I also wouldn't be surprised if the team keeps a couple of apartment or condos handy for situations like this so a player has a place to stay for these short callups. In fact, I think the CBA requires initial accommodations for a number of days. But I don't like those scooters. I once was on a group run and the lady I ran with worked at Children's Hospital. Said at least once a week they get a kid in there with a head injury from those things.

Harris needs to trade prospects, but not good prospects because we need them, for ML players, but only good ML players. We can't be making trades like Suarez for Simon or Robbie Ray for Shane Greene. He needs to sign some Free Agents but only the good Free Agents, not the bad ones like Javy Baez or Jordan Zimmerman. And he needs to draft good players like Rutschman and not bad players like Torkelson. So in a nutshell, we need to develop prospects, trade those prospects for ML players, then sign free agents who are good but not expensive.

and it extends beyond just the racism. The Stump book and movie made it look like his peers didn't like him and I don't think that's true. As for proof of this... either I don't understand the points clearly but I think chas has it backwards. I wouldn't expect to see Cobb's contemporary sources and proof in his time to disprove alllegations made decades later. It's not like the media back then would say "Well, in the 1960's and later in the 1990's, they're going to be saying this stuff about him so let's clear the air now". My understanding of that book was he wanted to write a new one on him since it had been so long, so when we went around looking at material he wasn't finding references to support the myths he expected to write about, he didn't set out to clear the air... the data led him to that.

and if they wait until it really does rain, fans complain that "they just wanted the parking and beer money before calling it". Pro Tip: If you use the ParkWhiz app and search for the lots based on "Detroit Tigers" in the search criteria as an event, rather than just randomly searching for a lot, if the game is cancelled you get your money back. At least that's how it was a few years ago. Pleasant surprise.

which should be the point of a historical record such as stats. LIke I pointed out with regard to the other leagues in the 'official' record, they are already sort of 'messed up' so this doesn't degrade the quality. There's such inconsistency in the early part of baseball's history on how stats were calculated anyway.

I am not expecting a guilty verdict. I admittedly didn't follow the trial beyond what was posted here. But he gets away with everything and these lawyers and experts on TV still think we are living in a former life where things played out normally and this man will be held accountable. This isn't 1996. Crackpots have learned they can disrupt the system by being steadfeast and they'll do it on juries and on committees and anywhere else in a civil function.

I take it to mean they won't spend just to make a marketing splash but for specific players that will help that at that moment in time. They have to find out who on the current roster can play and how the kids in the minors develop to see what their needs are.

good day to pound those budweisers

Really? I'd be interested in learning more. Maybe he swung too far the other way but I'm sympathetic to the idea that Cobb was given harsher context due to the work of Al Stump and when you compare Cobb to his peers he's not such an evil caricature... unless you want to say all of them were.

I have similar thoughts with regard to Jackie Robinson Day. Nothing against him at all. But by making it about him it appears to whitewash why we know his name so much. The focus is on his "achievement" rather than why it was necessary. I don't know what they are supposed to do to be honestly other than just acknowledge it. Don't say "he broke the color barrier" as if he was Chuck Yeager. Use other words.

You realize that official MLB stats already contain other leagues besides the AL and NL? MLB for most of history was just a legal agreement between the two regarding items like # of games played and contract enforcements. They were separate legal entities.
