  1. Judge Dearie was having none of the Trump bullshit..... so look for the Trump Team to whine and claim it's unfair.
  2. Chris Ilitch says Steve Yzerman participated in the process. Also shouted out to Hinch, Garko, Sartori and Mezin.
  3. I like Pete too. I think the wild card is Harris. Not that she has a shot but I'm afraid she thinks she does and will try to run. Someone needs to get to her and say "You did your part, you helped us get elected, you will be rewarded with your choice of assignments in a new Admin, cabinet posts, ambassadorship... maybe a judge" Maybe she can say "I like this job so I'll be the running mate again" She can follow in Calhoun and George Clinton's footsteps. It'd be best if the D's could have a gentle and uniting primary, as such things can exist. Sounds like Newsom is also all in.
  4. He wore impressive striped polos.
  5. Scott Harris fixed the Tigers as a whole faster than ATL fixed Robbie Grossman.
  6. I was wrong earlier when I said they wouldn’t get a guy who was a GM today. I wasn’t considering them filling the top job and leaving GM empty for now.
  7. For comparison I believe Chris Ilitch has the title of CEO and so do some other owners. That’s what it took at the time to get DD here.
  8. Dombrowski was the CEO and President of the entire organization, business operations in addition to baseball. This title is not the same. In theory DD was responsible for the food vendors and electricians and marketing, etc.
  9. Seems alright to me based on his bio and history.
  10. Presidents can and often do plan their funerals. Harry Truman planned a state funeral but Bessie changed her mind after he passed away. Nixon didn't ask for one, probably afraid he'd be turned down. I mean... as President I guess he's entitled to one. Maybe his will be like Benito's or Caucescu's.
  11. 2 years ago we found out Justin Verlander was having Tommy John Surgery. What a recovery, eh? I get angry seeing him succeed so much with Houston. Happy for him obviously but man...
  12. My wife works for a large local health system. She's maxed out on the pay scale. Been there 26 years. For raises, since she's maxed out, they give her a lump sum. Ok..... but then in years when there are no raises everyone else still gets that 3.5%.... she doesn't.
  13. I hate it when I have to hope we'd be as good as Baltimore. That's a team I've consistently rooted against. Other teams have always had at least one series where I wanted them to win over the other team, even the Yankees. I got tired of the Red Sox playing the underdog card so I'd say "Screw 'em". Probably goes back to Ripken.
  14. We don’t know that he’s “relying on Hinch”. Hinch is the only guy who speaks to reporters. So what he says gets magnified. I’m sure he has input because why wouldn’t he? My “criticism” is more about the article itself trying to position itself to some inside authority or knowledge when in fact it’s just as credible as whatever we all know here. It’s just a guy, or fan, writing. From what I have seen from media outlets no candidate has been confirmed to have been interviewed or to even be considered. Basically the writers looked at guys just below the GM level around the league and said “this is someone they could be after”. Well yeah…. That’s how it works. They will hire someone who is not yet a GM from another org or will hire someone who was a GM but not anymore. There’s only so many of those out there. They will not pull a Matt Millen from the TV booth move. And anybodys opinion on whether the move is good or not will be an uninformed one.
  15. That article of column isn’t really sourced with new info though. He’s making a judgement call that because those are the only names publicly speculated on by members of the media then that must mean those are the only considerations. We don’t know who they are talking to and neither does he or Henning or McCosky or Cody. He’s basically concluding they suck at if because of speculation. I am not saying they won’t screen it up. Just we haven’t seen a reason to assume that yet
  16. Y’all forgetting Jake?
  17. I follow a guy who's been on that tirade for a long time. It's almost all he tweets about. One of those "Why isn't this illegal already" kind of things.
  18. White people had to get out of the city.... and fast. And that occurred in other cities too. San Fran, Baltimore.... whole middle class black communities wiped out. I've been excited about that project for while.
  19. Here's the park overlayed on some others... I never realized the RF fence goes out at a slight >90 degree angle before it juts out even further. That's how it appears to me. https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/select-home-run-park-factors-visualized/
  20. Anyone see McCoskey's article behind the paywall about the fences? He didn't confirm they are doing anything but said there's been a lot of activity with people measuring, checking things out, etc. this year. Engineer types. And he quoted Dusty Baker, maybe incorrectly, that "they're moving them in". I think the simplest thing is to get rid of the angled wall. Straighten that out, add some seats to fill in the gap, without impeding the requirement to have a blank hitting backdrop, and possible move the CF fence in a little to straighten in out.... you still have a deep, but reasonable, OF. And for dollars and sense..... from my seats along the RF line, I can't see that board so there's more advertising eyeballs to see whatever corporate sponsor is on there.
  21. even so... what's the harm still to the driver in the long line? It took him an extra 7 seconds to get to a certain spot? The time to your destination is relatively unchanged via traffic. How do I know this? From Google Maps. When I drive to Flint on a regular basis from Dearborn it's amazing how accurate it is given the nature of lights on Telegraph from the lodge to 75, or whatever awaits me on 96 and 23..... yet it's accurate within a minute from an hour and fifteen away.
