Tigers Beat Writers Lionizing Sub-Replacement Level Ex-Tigers
oblong replied to Edman85's topic in Detroit Tigers
I think McCoskey gets targeted not for that phrase but the way he seems to get personally hurt when a guy gets cut or whatever. LIke he lost a drinking buddy. -
Aaron Boone is not an idiot. If it’s anybody but Skubal he will be laughed out of the league. So much so the league might intervene and be like “dude… WTF? You are banned for life”

The 2005 HR Derby was probably the highlight of the stadium until the 2006 season. Abreu had the whole stadium chanting "Bobby! Bobby!"

When did turning on the hazards when it's raining hard become a thing? I noticed it earlier this year when driving thru Kentucky and it was pure white knuckle "hope the guy in front of me knows where he is going". In that case everybody was going about 25 down I 75 so I thought maybe it was a local thing to them, especially since we were at the point where you are miles between exits. BUt yesterday it rained pretty hard around here and I was on 94 and noticed quite a few people doing it.

I've absorbed everything Zep related over the last 35 years and the great thing about that doc was the footage I'd never seen before. Kind of a whitewash in some respects but that's the game when you get them to participate like they did. John Paul Jones showed his great humor and hearing the interview with Bonham was emotional. Audio clips of that guy are very rare. I saw it twice in the theater and once again on Netflix.

yes, they need to be.... corrected.

until elected members in congress switch to this new party and don't automatically caucus with the party they came from, this won't matter.

Regarding the floods..... I don't know what happened and it's probably too soon to 'blame' anybody. Sometimes bad things happen too fast for us to prevent it. But generally speaking there needs to be a national discussion on how we treat weather forecasts, forcasters, and warnings. Too many people think they're idiots because "it didn't rain when they said it was" without understanding what their forecast means. Or they blow off warnings because of false alarms. It's better to have 99 false alarms as long as we react properly to the 100th alarm. I'm not suggesting that's what happened here but we should heed it as a lesson regardless. That said... they should play the clip of Jodi Ernst saying "Well we're all going to die anyway" each time someone on Fox or whatever tries to cast blame.

I had to make a run to the market up the street for dinner. I waited until McKinstry scored the tying run. When I got in my car the inning was already over, I heard Cleveland hit a lead off double, went into the store, came back out and heard Dan say "extra innings". Then as i pulled intio my driveway Sweeney hit the HR. A quick trip to pick up some steak bites made the day so much better.

I was trying to think of which visiting player I have seen play the most in person and I’m guessing it’s Sal Perez or Jim Thome because of those years of unbalanced schedules. Maybe Joe Mauer.

It could be pre arranged. The # number of pitch or the # of pitch in a certain situation like “my third pitch in the 4th inning”

when the TIgers lose I get mad and don't want to talk to any of you morans. When they win I want to have a Backyard BBQ with sprinklers, jello, and such and such.

I can’t look this up now but have the Tigers ever had 3 ASG starters, along with possibly Skubal?

7/2/25 1:05 & 6:45 Tigers @ Nationals DH Wednesday

Ronnie Rodriguez, huh? Forgot all about that guy. If I even remembered him in the first place. The 2019 Tigers was the ultimate "going thru the motions/they are making us do this" era. Gardenhire just collecting a check. Fans hyped about Christin (Not Christian) Stewart because... well someone's gotta play at AAA. According to B-R, your second best player that year was Daniel Norris. -
to prepare for The Bear season 4 we finally watched the final episode of season 3 and I honestly had no idea what it was about. I hope season 4 is better.

Your Mount Rushmore Of.................Comedy Movies
oblong replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in General Discussion
Did Ackroyd write that movie? He's a odd duck. The original script for Blues Brothers was insane. Like 300 pages. He was told that each page is about 1 minute of screen time. -
I normally don't care about this stuff but you can now vote thru Wednesday for the starters for the ASG. I did my duty today. I want to see Javy and Riley start in the OF.

As a Dallas fan I love the Omri Katz reference. Obviously it's from the movie he did but still.... he'll always be John Ross Ewing III.

Your Mount Rushmore of Detroit/Michigan Sports Moments
oblong replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in General Discussion
I'm focusing on moments, not events, like a team winning or whatever. Yzemran lifting the cup in '97. The actual moment of him lifting it over his head, with his missing tooth. If someone else had done it it later on, even Lidstrom, it wouldn't have meant as much. Kenny Rogers walking off the mound in the 2006 ALDS. Everybody was mad the team blew the lead for the division and we got "stuck" with the reincarnation of the '27 Yankees. Got smoked in game 1, game 2 had a rainout when nobody told our SP there was a delay. Stole game 2. Kenny just mows this team down all game, yelling for the ball. The opposite of Fidrych in a way. Only a year earlier he was the only player booed at the ASG because of both what he did to the cameraman and because many thought he took Bonderman's spot on the team. So yeah, this is when we realized we can beat this team in the playoffs and when Comerica Park came alive for the first time ever. There's regular season excitement and there's postseason excitement. The energy in those 2 games was never topped in a game I've been at since. And this is the moment it started. 20 years of Tigers angst bottled up and released at that moment. After that success was expected. -
It's been a long time since I was there on a Sunday. I was mad because a wedding meant i couldn't go on Friday. I considered just selling the tickets and making some money but when I found out it was an ESPN Sunday Night game, I exchanged them. Then on Monday while at the game, with Skubal pitching, I realized he'd probably be pitching Sunday nigtht which was even better. outside of winning a division title at home, I don't know this can be topped. I was so focused on his strikeouts and catching Anibal's K record, I didn't notice he hadn't given up a hit until he did.

And he did that thru the first 11 at bats.

Your Mount Rushmore Of.................Comedy Movies
oblong replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in General Discussion
I guess I never really considered Blues Brothers a comedy. It’s one of my favorite movies ever. I have 2 DVD copies. It’s in my DVR. And I will watch it when it’s on. I have it memorized. I recite it constantly. Maybe the humor is ingrained so much. Oddly enough recently I just noticed a detail I’d never noticed. After they go into the soul food joint for the Aretha performance they go to Rays. While perusing the merchandise Elwood approaches a toaster oven and pulls out a piece of white bread from his coat pocket to see if it fits.
