  1. The story behind Jaws is remarkable. Almost as good as the movie itself. Failure made it better. It introduced the summer blockbuster. It really holds up well and all the elements of a Spielberg movie are there.
  2. classic case of assuming it's "other" people abusing things and we need to stop that abuse, at all costs, then getting upset when it affects you because you wouldn't do such a thing. She's the person who parks in no parking/stopping/standing spots in front of stores because "I'll only be a minute, it's just me here."
  3. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DLFvUJHMfqI/?igsh=dnR6NjA2ajF0ZzFn Miggy selling his Grosse Pointe Farms home. $3.5 M.
  4. I think it's just atrophy. The old timers who were the problem are dying off and the younger ones are better. But there's still too many that I think shouldnt get a vote just because they covered the game for a period of time. As long as we have writers not voting for players for reasons other than whether they belong in the HOF, then it's a problem leaving with the BBWAA. I'm not talking about their judgements on PED use but this silly idea that they aren't first ballot or they don't deserve unanimous or even "too high of a %". Voters have used that as an excuse in the past.
  5. I think it was Jerome Holtzman who it was said of, that if he didn't think a marginal player was a HOFer, then somehow he could sway all the other voters somehow to deny. Like he held vendettas against players.
  6. It's a remnant of the old days when supposedly the baseball writers were the experts because they covered the game. Few, if any, games were on TV. Nobody but them could possibly know these things, right? Then you end up with some voters who might have covered the game for a few years, even in a city without a team, becoming voters, and hey, if they didn't see Lou Whitaker play a lot and never saw him on the TV in highlights, how the hell can he be a Hall of Famer? It's a good system, right? In all seriousness, it's out dated. There's so much information available to potential voters that it's odd to leave it in their hands now. And do the smart baseball people even become writers anymore?
  7. When I come back from extended time off there's a feeling either of "Crap, I can never leave...." and "****, nothing fell over, it's as if I never left" and I don't know which one bothers me more? Although a lot of my work just sticks around. I'm not part of a team all doing the same thing. It often means I just have to make it up when I get back.
  8. Perfectly stated. At our place I'm lucky that's casual. We have a vacation bucket that's based on seniority and another bucket, that everybody gets the same, for "Personal/Family Flex". There's a few rules, like you can't book one of each on top of one another. But in reality it's between you and your direct supervisor to manage and in all of my time not one ever really chased it. "Just put it on my calendar if you are off" kind of thing. The last 3 years I made an effort to use all of my personal time. It was intended for things like doctor appointments, or sick days, but during the pandemic and working from home it wasn't required to be used as often. You'd just go to your appointment. NObody noticed you were gone. But each month I take one day off to just do whatever needs to be done around the house. Silly things like clean out the garage or the yard, maybe tackle that junk drawer or area under the stairs where crap piles up. THrowing away bags of loose screws and anchors. Random allen wrenches. Organize the tool box.
  9. I think it's a trap. The vagueness. A friend's place does that but they have a German office and so that complicates things because they have laws so they hint "Model it after Germany" but don't explicityly say so. I used to hate that my place didn't let us carry over into the next year but I've grown to prefer that policy. It forces me to use it without feeling "guilty". Especially towards the end of the year. "Well, if you'd let me carry it over, I'd not take these 4 Mondays off in a row but....."
  10. You can't say whatever you want to players. I'm fine with ejecting the fans as happened here. People are obnoxious and need to be held accountable. Purchasing a ticket doesnt give you indefinite license.
  11. Freehan should be in. I see that as an oversight.
  12. I didn't realize that was the Perez 🙂
  13. What about Salvador Perez? Catchers get shortchanged in my opinion but he's been at it a long time and producing even though his C days are dwinding.
  14. I bet if 99% of serious baseball fans looked at his BR page from 2012-2020 they would have forgotten how good he was ,referring to Mike Trout. I feel that's also true with Ken Griffey Jr.
  15. Fox 2 was on this and they suggested it's because a man said he made unwanted advances on him. I was working so not totally listening but I heard the word massage.
  16. It wasn't only that. They stop at the first 10, the bill of rights. It's missing 11-27.
  17. Also I like to differentiate between "If they retired right now, are they a HOFer" vs "The way they are going they are almost there" because injuries can stop that progress and it's a valid thing to consider. You judge them on what they did not on what they would have done. I feel like Kirby Puckett was a beneficiary of that when he got hurt. To me he wasn't the slam dunk.
  18. Mike Trout is 100% a HOFer.
  19. This guy breaks it down
  20. I'll give them credit and assume it wasn't mealfeasance, just stupidity in thinking the Constitution was a one and done thing and not understanding what the word "amendment" means.
  21. one side of the clash within the GOP. The other side are the bigots who hate the jews.
  22. We shouldn't have games before May 1 beause it's too cold, we shouldn't have games between June 15 and Aug 25 b/c it's too hot and potential for storms all the time, and the world series runs into late October and it's too cold for that. New proposal. 2 mini seasons of 40 games each between May 1-Jun 15 and Aug 20 and Oct 3. Each winner plays in a 7 game WS from Oct 6-15. No divisions. No leagues. If one team wins both halves then we don't need a world series and can move on to the other sports.
  23. There’s a bunch of smart people between the two teams and the league that know how to game out scenarios on when they can play. There’s nothing we will come up with that they haven’t considered.
