  1. The Tigers didn’t invent that type of seating so I assume billion dollar corporations have lots of research and data at their disposal (both their own and their partners in the league who already did this)before they invest millions to renovate like that.
  2. They've been bitching about these seats all year yet the Tigers just had a sellout weekend once school got out. I just checked for 2 for Friday's game... nothing in the lower bowl. Saturday's game, outside of the OF upper deck by the scoreboard, has scattered seats available? So who's not buying? I'm not following the "empty expensive seats that are already sold hurts the Tigers" logic.
  3. The pitching just wasn't that good to sustain. I'll never forget the Baltimore game that started the losing streak. They had a big lead and eventually Chris Hoiles (Eastern Michigan) hit a grand slam.
  4. I don't think anybody watching a game that's got 35,000 people in the stands is ignorant of that fact because they see a handful of the most expensive seats empty. People aren't stupid. They show other parts of the stadium all the time. This is a fake crisis because podcastsers and radio hosts and "bloggers" need to write something to create content. I guarantee you nobody sees those empty seats and thinks "Wow, nobody's at the game?"
  5. right... Rusty Kuntz had the GWRBI in game 5 of the '84 world series. Not Gibby's 2 homers. Not Lance's HR. It was Rusty's fly ball to "deep 2nd" that made the difference.
  6. its a case where they both are right.
  7. My wife watches every game with me now.
  8. One week I made.... $1. My friends and I sat around a table counting our collections. $1. Seriously, it was like bookies and I'm the guy who has to kick upstairs. We'd get our papers from some dingy back room in a warehouse building. Mr. Stubee would have our stacks set up on a table. Sometimes we had "fillers" which were ads we had to place in each newspaper. Then on Mondays he'd tell us what we owed. It was always different even though we had the same customers each week mostly. "Ok Bobby... this week you owe me $37.25..... waddya mean you're short" Maybe he was charging us vig. We're getting juiced by a guy driving a panel van. Sounds right.
  9. But in this case they aren't no shows. They're just somewhere else. Sometimes I'm not in my seats, and not even because I wanted food or drink or the restroom. We decided to go stand out in the outfield or a party deck. This weekend's series was a sellout. And a real one because on Friday I could see full rows of people all along the top rows in the upper deck, that's the real test. A handful of open seats behind the plate doesn't mean anything. The cameras showed plenty of full seats elsewhere. I don't really know what the solution is expected to be. They've sold premium seats that include things that involve NOT being in your seats to enjoy. If they don't sell them then fine, fix that piece of it. But if they are selling them then what can you do? I will say that one thing that can't be fixed that might be leading to people not being in those seats is Comerica's terrible sight lines for the 'best' seats... meaning the first 10-15 rows all along the lower bowl. You can't see the field. You almost are looking up at the players. Maybe the people that get those seats experience that and figure "Let's go talk in the club and watch on TV and have free food/drinks while we're at it"
  10. Yep. I was a paperboy in the mid-late 80's for the News. $1.65 a week. 20 cents Mondo through Saturday, 45 cents on Sunday. I learned quickly the multiples, $1.65, $3.30, $4.95, $6.60. Collecting SUCKED. I think that's why I never became a football fan. Everyone is home watching Michigan. I'm out schlepping to make $20 that week.
  11. He also dated Lorri Morgan.... she was married 6 times (2 deaths).
  12. Friday night at dinner before the Tiger game, we went with lifelong friends who moved to the SW area of MI, he mentioned one of these coin changers. Were talking about going through his dad's stuff (he died in January), and they found one.
  13. I remember in a previous season there was some kind of "getting over the hump" all season long... don't think it was .500 though.
  14. I love the JPow. I see what you did.
  15. They are being good fans and placing bets. I mean the Tigers literally promote a prop bet midway thru the game on the scoreboard
  16. That’s not a problem exclusive to the Tigers. Part of the appeal of the seats is their location. I saw empty seats behind the plate in the same seats in the Yankee/Sox series this weekend. It does absolutely nothing for me as a fan if there’s people there or not. The stadium is sold out. It doesn’t make the team play better. We can’t teleport our energy and joy thru the TV to them. The players couldn’t care if people are there or not.
  17. It’s why I hate talk radio and podcasters. these morons need something to talk about.
  18. I’m so tired of seeing people complaint about that. Ryan Ermani had been a leader of that. Every stadium with those premium seats has this “problem”. I watch the players. Not the audience. It’s such a non issue. The seats are sold. People are getting what they paid for. It hurts no one if they aren’t sitting there. Get off social media Karen.
  19. I did this mix up my two favorite Paul Newman movies.
  20. I think the digital versions of both papers is $10 a month. A bit too much for me. Sorry. I want to support local journalism.
  21. I am going to defend the ump in tossing Nick Hoerner in Sundays game. Sure what he said wasn’t bad but he did kind of start to get in his face. He squared up to him and that’s issuing a challenge. I wasn’t watching it live, just listening to it. But I saw the video after. Mumble that as you walk away but the minute you make a show of it then no matter the words you risk getting ejected. There’s no other way it will end once he turned toward him like that. He didn’t intend to leave quietly so the ump just got it out of the way. A player or manager will not win that battle.
  22. 2 of 3 against the best team that came in with the best NL record but will leave without it.
  23. Andor was prophetic.
  24. ChatGPT was free. I paid for one over a year ago. Mindjourney. Mets has one too.
