  1. I think the TV networks and gambling companies also have a say. The networks don't like things dragging on. They paid for something and the longer a game goes on the more it disrupts their operations and programming. So get the game over with. I believe it's a primary reason we got the pitch clock. A HR contest at the end presents all kinds of opportunities for wagers. Business is all about generating as much revenue and profit as possible. That's it. Every decision is made with that as the goal.
  2. participation trophy. MAGA loves them.
  3. I would rather have a swing off than a tie. But I'm not a fan of the swing offs in a regular season game. It's different than a shoot out in hockey. In hockey you win by scoring goals. You score goals by putting the puck in the net. That's the only way you score a goal. Yes I know there's more to in in terms of setting up and deflections and blocking the goalie, etc. But the shootout is still a contest between a player and a goalie. The hockey equivalent would be to set up plates in the goal and have guys shoot at them from the blue line like they do in teh ASG Skills contest. n baseball there's many ways to score a run. It can be by power like a HR. It could be due to speed via a baserunner. Instead of a HR why not time guys running from 2B to home and the best time wins? Like my thoughts on the ghost runner... if they insist on doing this and I have no say in the matter, then do it after 12 or 13 innings. Not the 10th.
  4. Highest ratings for the ASG since 2017.
  5. I don’t thjnk a single trump voter was influenced by Jon Stewart.
  6. I thjnk that happens all the time. Not just during an ASG.
  7. and Jake Tapper
  8. Trump gave Rush the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
  9. Up to a point in time but it seems post 1990's he got stuck and couldn't move forward with the game when he'd do gmaes on MLB Network. It's like he assumed his audience hadn't watched a game in full since he had to when he was full time.
  10. It wouldn't surprise me if pitchers, after they are done, go through a treatment program and once they do that, then it is gross to go back and put your sweaty clothes back on. He's a notorious sweater too.
  11. I feel like I'm on facebook. Tough crowd.
  12. Everyone can get in the game and you don’t worry about having to save a P to go extra innings.
  13. I will worry about that then but for now this was entertaining. No pressure on saving pitchers and players. It was a fun game tonight. Great defense and baserunning. It was a well played game and good showcase for the young talent.
  14. Smoltz still going on about the clutch thing. Dude. It’s a gimmick. Chill.
  15. This hurts nobody. My wife is still watching. It’s fine.
  16. Smoltz being a little dramatic. “One of the most clutch things you’ll ever see”
  17. 50 years ago the final Apollo mission launched. This wasn’t a lunar mission but a diplomatic one with the Soviets. Years prior the two countries agreed to to a joint mission where the Apollo and Soyuz spacecrafts would dock in earth orbit. Due to the sensitivities involved with the standard probe and drogue docking mechanism used they came up the Androgynous Peripheral Attach System (APAS) that utilized the existing docking hardware used on Apollo but attached to the adapter first. Basically the Russians and Americans didn’t want to be on the “receiving end” so to speak. It was a legit concern and threatened the idea of the mission. With this either craft could be active or passive. The US had a 3 man crew and the Soviet’s a 2 man. They were docked for over a day and visited each craft and did scientific experiments. this was the first Soviet space launch televised live. It was the last crewed capaule launch for the US until a Dragon in 2020.
  18. No. He was being led into a tent for dignitaries.
  19. Seeing the celebrities was cool. I saw the "hot guy" from Desperate Housewives as my wife called him. He was in the celebrity softball game, I went to that with her and made fun of him, saying he probably can't play. THen he hit a "softball" HR. Then on another night I saw him at the bottom of the ramp from the 300 level smoking, that was where they let people smoke. I also saw Richard Schiff, Toby from the West Wing. He smiled when I said Hi. Also saw George Will when we were leaving the stadium.
  20. yeah we got it. You are defending bone headed policies. Keep digging
  21. Good question. I've often seen stories where the visiting team's All Stars ride along with the home team guys to the ASG.
  22. That gets mentioned a lot and is worth highlighting. It's one of those things that I've heard the experts on the radio say quite a bit over the last 40 years. So then someone hears it and assumes its true and it becomes a legend. They were 69-53 after 35-5. That's a .565574 Win %. Over 162 that % is 92 wins. That's a good season. They didn't coast after a hot start.
  23. I didn't ignore it. It's irrelevant. Supporting nazi policies is your burden.
