  1. why are they all taking 1st pitch FBs down the middle!?
  2. well, I like this exchange.
  3. Well Tarik left it all out there today. Three baserunners, no walks, 10 K
  4. there was a time when you wouldn't try sneaking a FB by Carlos deep in the count. But the years catch up with them all.
  5. Third time through. Does Hinch stay with his ace?
  6. Gameday just said voting is open for the player of the game? Whaddya think? Maybe the Batboy?
  7. this is getten' redikulus!
  8. some pretty good location by William though
  9. TTBDNS Still, Williams looking like he's near the end of his rope.
  10. Nice AB by Sweeney. Took a couple of tough pitches low.
  11. Knew I shouldn't have posted that...
  12. these two teams have managed a total of 6 hits in their last 12 innings played.
  13. He doesn't seem to be covering the lower part of the zone - esp down and away, and that's where they are pitching him.
  14. too easily confused with a philandering Quebecios. 🤣
  15. that was supposed to be a dollar sign - I think it got spellchecked out and I didn't notice... $CA
  16. Skubal's combination of sinker/change gets them worried about swinging above everything which leave them wide open to swinging under the high 4 seamer. I don't know if it's because it's just harder to do or because back in the day it ran counter to conventional wisdom, but I don't remember a lot of guys throwing both 2 seam and 4 seam fastballs in the past like they do now.
  17. So here is one I've never seen before. Minor league game, bases loaded. Batter hits a ground ball to short which is a tailor made DP ball. Runner on 2nd fields the ball, giving himself up via interference but preventing the double play. Umps did make the runner who went home go back to 3rd. 🤣
  18. Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez having career seasons for HOU. Either or both or them may or may not regress in the 2nd half. And that can certainly be said for Skubal as well.
  19. Yup- Melton seems to be pitching at least as well as Montero and Enns is probably on a short leash after his last start.
  20. Yup. Hindsight is 20/20 but in retrospect this org was so depleted the only possible strategy was to keep losing until they were able to put together a bigger, better core through the draft. The first round picks have been fine, but not good enough or fast enough to turn the org around. In turn that has meant that all the money spent on FA fillers has been pretty much a waste. Lose/lose all the way around. Even assuming ASP and Danielson make the team next season and get them to playoff level, they still won't be a serious challenger to win a Cup and once those two are on the team where is the next increment going to come from to get them to another level?
  21. Right - I don't the exchange rate should be an issue per se. You pay the going rates US dollar terms. The team's income will be higher measured in SCA as well so it's just a conversion factor. Tax rates on the other hand.....
  22. and there is always that level of misdirection between a guy (esp a collegiate) who is attractive because he has a very 'mature' game but in reality is already at his ceiling and ends up not making it, and a guy (esp a prep) who has a lot of holes in his game but still ends up closing all those holes and hitting the higher ceiling.
  23. When it comes to RCC strictures, I'd say 'guilt' is in the eye of beholder, but her name was Margie. Much like the character in "of Human Bondage" Merton had a passion that his disciplines still did not free him of.
  24. Yes - in the US I think we've come to conflate political liberty with personal freedom and they are not the same thing. I think that without doubt there are things higher on the hierarchy of meaning than personal freedom.
  25. Not to worry, If third party reports are accurate Merton didn't either. 😉
