  1. I've probably moved to the center not the left. I've voted for Republicans as recently as down ballot 2016. I don't embrace a lot of the left wing ideology, but Trump's emergence and the loons in his wake have exposed a lot of the right wing ideology as fraudulent. I like to call out nonsense on all sides, since irrational polarization is at the core of our problems right now.
  2. My biggest issue with them sending the tests out is the false negative rate of antigen tests. For example, I talked to a friend who was feeling a bit under the weather before Christmas, fully vaxxed and boosted. Took a rapid antigen before flying up to visit family, negative. After landing, felt awful, got a PCR and was positive, quarantined and didn't expose family. N=1 anectdote, but I've spoken to many others whose antigen didn't detect their eventual covid.
  3. I am sure the nominee will be qualified, but that doesn't make the Democrats' obsession with identity politics any less icky to me. Don't both sides me on this as obviously the GOP has their own issues here. I think it just drives back to using data analysis, and demographic data is just what they have to play with.
  4. Only Murders in the Building was good. While I'm a fan of Martin Short and Steve Martin, I generally expect a cast with big names to phone it in. They did anything but. Funny, well-written, suspenseful. Recommend.
  5. I've had multiple people who had COVID tell me how awful it was to quarantine for a week.
  6. That link doesn't show anything. Tucker Carlson's credibility is nil.
  7. I know somebody who dated one of her sons in high school. I noticed that person unfriended on Facebook me at some point since I started ranting and raving about how fucking stupid everybody was being during COVID, so probably sees eye to eye with the Palins.
  8. Seems to be the difficulty with getting Gaetz on underage charges is the victim lied to them about her age. Don't get me wrong. I hope he gets his comeuppance, but I do think this has something to do with the delay.
  9. Neil Young also has some wacky antiscience songs on spotify. Not antivax bad, bit anti-GMO stuff isn't exactly backed by science.
  10. Part of the etc. I have a vaccine mandate in my house fwiw.
  11. Employers, hospitals, etc should be able to mandate. Government mandates are a bridge too far. What is going on in Florida and other states where employers can't mandate is just as oppressive as a mandate.
  12. I see Lynn giving play by play on MSNBC often, so I offered him this challenge.
  13. Tapper is underneath Cooper/Hayes/Maddow too. They are all far enough outside of the green that I don't find it worthwhile to watch.
  14. Follow-up to the other day... Primetime shows on cable news on the bias chart.
  15. My biggest issue with that study is it is obvious covid risk depends on being vaccinated or not and that wasn't even factored.
  16. I see a big, likely the most important, variable was not factored into that study. Beware of overconfident numbers presented in a fancy way. There is no way anybody can quantify risk to the fourth decimal percentage point.
  17. I tried to fact check that tweet when I saw it, and it appears Nina was confused between the difference between average and median. The median salary, as she reported, was about 45K (I think), but when i tried to find average data, it was pushing 60-70K. Makes sense, income is going to have a long right tail. I could see high cost of living areas like those that Ivy Leaguers come from (i.e. coastal cities) maybe having average wages pushing 6 figures.
  18. Back to my traffic stop example... the cop pulled the driver over for speeding and the driver pulled a gun on the cop, but that is okay because he was pulled over for speeding.
  19. Officer: Do you know how fast you were going? Driver: No, officer. But I wasn't picking my nose! Officer: 80 in a 45. Here's your ticket. I couldn't see if you were or not, but that isn't a crime. Driver: Exonerated! I wasn't picking my nose!
  20. That collusion red herring is still doing a lot of work.
  21. 93... Decent chance father time would have gotten him sometime in the last 20 or so years.
