I cut the cord long ago, so my Baseball has come through Fanduel/Bally sports streaming in the past. I went through the maze on MLB.com the first or second day it was available and signed up. It has worked on my Samsung phone perfectly through the MLB app, and my TV as well.

On my Samsung 65" 4K TV (2024 Vintage), I simply searched for the MLB app, found and installed it on the TV . I logged into the app on my tv, and scanned the displayed QR Code and activated the app. That was it, It found the DSN subscription and has worked perfectly ever since. The picture quality is fantastic, and it looks like a 4K signal, although I'm not totally sure. The pricing is identical to my last year's Fanduel subscription.

Between over the air, streaming, and Samsung TV which come through my internet connection on the TV, I am just shy of 500 channels plus the streaming. Life is good.

I also have a 65" Samsung and I swear it has a much better picture watching the MLB app than all of the other streaming channels. Crystal clear. And I had the same easy time installing the MLB app and getting the Detroit feed.

Anyone know what the rules are in terms of multiple live views at the same time? I'm asking for... uh... for a  friend... yeah...

Seriously though my brother subscribed to Bally/FanDuel for the RedWings games and shared it with my Mother so she could watch the Tigers and they split the cost. Given that it was just the two of them and Bally/FanDuel apparently allowed two simultaneous views that worked out well for them. Can you do the same thing with DSN?

If it's anything like MLB.TV, my brother and my dad have mine and I run into issues sometimes, but not often. If I do, I just call them and remind them whose password it is and who is the bigger Tigers fan, and they drop off 😄

I do believe that throughout the HD era, networks and providers have routinely cheaped out on signal transmission to save bandwidth and money. The poor resolution of some so-called HD signals is appalling, so when we see an excellent crystal-clear signal such as in last night’s Netflix game—the signal quality they promised us with HD back around 2000 in the first place—it really stands out.

Lol...that's funny. I remember, in the very early days, home Tiger games would be in hi-def. But road games would be in the letter box 4:3 ratio. It always disappointed me...knowing a better picture was possible.

Those ping times, while high compared to Fiber/Cable, are incredible.  I had a customer that used Hughes Satellite internet for backup and we'd see a 700-800ms, sometimes up to 900ms.  They say the average human doesn't start to realize slowness in browsing until you get past the 100-120ms mark.

And not that I want to defend my competitor, but those AT&T numbers aren't that bad either (subjective based on the area (rural/urban).  We have several years before the cellular wifi at home solutions are able to truly compete with fiber/cable.  It's still a great and cheaper option for many that don't utilize their Internet all that much.

Got the MLB AP up and running on the TV. Now it's a case of "Platform Roulette" some of the earlier games are blacked out, others like the Pirates/Mets are on other platforms (NBC).

Washington and Baltimore are both in the blackout zone

so far, DSN is on DirectTV, but only live. It is not allowing broadcasts to be provided via DirectTVs "DVR" library, i.e. you can mark a game to 'record' but if you try to play it back you get a message that its owner is not allowing streaming. First time I have ever seen that on anything at DTV. I used to have a spare computer I had set up as a physical DVR, unfortunately it is now my NAS. There is probably a way to get the NAS to make a recording but I'm a long way from figuring that out as I sit here. I know I could use something like OBS but I want something that can read the guide and schedule unattended.

What OS are you running on your NAS?

UNRaid.

There are a bunch of candidate plugins for it but I figure I'll give it a few days to see if DSN lifts the blockade before I spend a lot of time on it.

I could’ve sworn that this new “agreement” had some kind of “no blackouts” provision, which meant that the six games a year of the Tigers play against the Mariners I would be able to watch, but I guess that is still not the case. I don’t know how I got such a wildly hopeful idea in my head.

But I can follow these games on gameday or on the radio portion of the MLB app so screw the cable providers, boo-hoo poor them.

I had forgotten to set up recording on FUBO.   This reminded me to do so.   We'll see how it works there.

I mentioned this in the first game thread, but I am beyond thrilled with the change in graphics on the screen for Tigers telecasts. First off all, that terrible 24/7 crawl is gone, finally. Secondly, the gambling touts have, so far, been completely absent, not only from the graphics, but as drop-ins by panel, booth, and field talent as well.

I was afraid that when the team signed the deal with Bet666, or whatever it's called, all the gambling angles would work their way into the broadcasts in the way they don't during other MLB-produced broadcasts. But so far, the only indication that gambling company is involved is the persistent screen bug (logo) in the upper right portion of the screen, and it's an opaque white logo that's easy to overlook or even lose in behind-the-plate crowd shots. It's even smaller than the MLB logo that runs on other ex-Main Street telecasts, which I'm totally good with, and thankfully not a full color screen bug the way they have on the new BravesVision broadcast, which sucks for their fans.

The betting company partnership does make me concerned that it will survive the break with MLB maybe as soon as next year, if the team creates their own TigersVision thing brought to you by [Gambling Company], with all the touting and graphic detritus we saw with FanDuel the past few seasons. But that's for 2027 me to whine about. Twenty-twenty-six me is happy with the new state of the telecast as it stands today.

I think it is really important to stress that this “new” package is not really new at all, aside from now adding the option for those of us in Detroit to be able to watch the game insider the mlb app if we are not cable/satellite/fubo people (instead of having to back out and use a different app or service).

For a good looking guy like you in Boise, nothing changes.
