2023 Predictions

[Hongbit]

I don’t even want to make my prediction because it makes me angry.

Jordan Love is a star and is this years Jalen Hurts.  GB offense is even more lethal without Rodgers.  Pack go 13-4 and win the division and make the SB. Only saving grace is they lose to Baltimore. 
 

Others:

Lions acquire Mike Evans from an openly tanking TB (who does go on to win the Caleb sweepstakes).   Finish at 11-6 and lose a wild card game to Dallas on terrible officiating call.    Ben Johnson is named coach of the newly named Washington Antelopes in the off-season. 

Jim Harbaugh is announced as head coach of the Seahawks but is indicted on federal tax evasion charges for doctoring his expense account receipts and never takes the job.

I disagree with point 2. They can lose so long as they're competitive to the end, but a blowout is unacceptable IMO.

I don't think everybody expects that. The Lions are a national darling this offseason which is nice I suppose but also freaks me the hell out because, one, that's never been the case in my lifetime and, two, I hope they can handle the weight of expectations.

With that said, a blowout loss would certainly be a "losing" situation. This team is at the point where they should be able to compete with anybody, conceding losses especially non-competitive ones to contenders shouldn't be acceptable anymore. I'm certain that the Lions locker room expects to win this game, not just keep it close.

My point is that the defending Super Bowl Champs, opening the season at home and raising the flag, will be expected to win by double digits. If that happens, it isn't unexpected. But a close game? That would surprise many people outside of Detroit. And a Lions victory? Someone may predict it, but I really doubt it.

I filled out the entire season worth of predictions - & then deleted it because I've been a Lions fan for 40 years & the only thing that has ever been certain is that nothing will happen like I think it will. 

I do think they're the best team in the division and should make the playoffs.  I think they have the talent to hang with anybody, & I expect a lot from this rookie class - but there are still a lot of question marks.

Pride of Detroit was doing their season preview podcast and their Editor in Chief, Jeremy Reisman, who I normally find myself agreeing with, had what I thought was a terrible take. He essentially said it would be ok for the Lions to lose to Kansas City and then go and lose to Seattle and start 0-2. He also said he wouldn't be shocked if they started 1-3 either and thinks things will be ok.

Starting 0-2 means you will have an 11.3% chance of making the playoffs. It spells the end of the chance at the playoffs for nearly 90% of teams that start 0-2. If they start 1-3, meaning they lost to one or both of Green Bay and Atlanta, then I think a lot of fans are talking about coaching changes. They cannot start 0-2 or 1-3. That would be a disappointment on both accounts.

Most 0-2 teams are bad so the playoff stats make sense. I don’t think starting 0-2 would mean the Lions are bad though. I think it’s a real possibility that each of their first three opponents make the playoffs. If you can get out of that at 2-1, you’ve done a good job, and if you get out at 1-2 I think you’ve survived.

The bye week will be a better benchmark than week three. If they’re 4-4 they’re in good position to ascend like they did last year. If they’re 5-3 (or better), they’re in really good shape. If they have a losing record into the bye, I’ll start to worry.

i wouldnt be surprised if the lions start 0-2 and 1-4 and still win 10 games.

10 games is a 1 win improvement over last season. I think they can and should do better.
