Loved the finale.

There were a few little things that bothered me.  One I’ll share as without any context it’s not a spoiler.

How did they get on the cliff?

That was my single biggest "hold on a minute" moments of maybe the entire series.

Some interesting rumors going round that a 9th episode and real finale of Stranger Things is coming tomorrow.

I always abide the first rule of internets of if it sounds like bs, assume it’s bs. I don’t think this rumor is true at all but it did get me thinking of how amazing it would be to have a fake finale and then just whammy the real thing 7 days later.    That would go down something that nobody has pulled off in the history of TV.

Let's do the Scooby Doo ending?

I would love it - not because I didn't like the ending, but because it would be the greatest TV moment in modern memory. But it can't possibly be true. All those people went to theaters to watch a fake finale?? And you kept THIS big of a secret for THIS long??

I think it's effectively impossible to make a series finale that everyone likes. Kill off one character, everyone is upset. Kill off another, everyone else is upset. Kill off no one, the stakes weren't high enough. Make it ambiguous, people clamor for finality. So everyone complains and the internet conspires with fake news.

The kind of knee-jerk reactions to call this finale just speak for me more to how phenomenal shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were, where no one really complained when it ended.

Though the Duffers haven't helped themselves in post-finale interviews. You can't just say I don't know" to plot holes and unanswered questions! It's YOUR fantasy! YOUR world! YOU wrote it! Write an answer!!

SPOILERS BELOW...........YOU'VE GOT TIL JANUAR 15TH TIL I STOP WHITING THEM OUT.

They could easily produce some sort of graphic novel or animated epilogue to describe some of the plot holes.   Like how the Military just forgave Hopper for killing so many members.       My thought is that someone like Murray had all the verifiable info on what happened during the run of the show and in exchange for silence, made deals..........something like that.

I guess they didn't want to film the Eleven in Iceland part but Netflix demanded it.   I think it cost several million dollars to shoot it.

I didn't believe she died from the start - as things were flying by at 100mph but she was completely unaffected by it.  Her hair or clothes not moving.

But whatever.   I don't need everything to be perfect.   I do wonder why Argyle was not shown in the graphic novel credits at the end.  Seems like everyone from the show but Argyle and Dr. Owens were shown.    I know the guy that plays Argyle, Eduardo Franco looks nothing like him anymore, as he's lost a ton of weight and is a bodybuilder now, but they showed several other long-gone cast members.    I know way way back that Franco said the Duffers never contacted him about a Season 5 cameo and maybe that pissed them off for leaking that info, but did Paul Reiser want money to be drawn or something.  He was pretty key for a season.

My wife was bawling.  I loved the simplicity of the ending.  It's a kids coming of age movie.... them playing their presumably final D&D game then watching the younger kids play.  The obvious callback is to Stand by Me's final line "I never had the kind of friends I had when I was 13. Jesus, does anyone"

If Prince is still alive, do they get the rights to Purple Rain?

and I'm jamming to The Trooper right now.  It's been a few years, since their concert here, that I went on a Maiden kick, but you are damn right that in 1989 I was listening.  Every night with my big ass wired headphones plugged into my cabinet stereo system, with turntable. ( that I foolishly gave away in 1997)

I guess they were absolutely surprised at how cheap it was to get the rights to those two songs.   And the whole idea of how to use an album side (I won't spoil) it was unique.   To have an uptempo song at the start and a very emotional closer at the end.   They went through a bunch of albums and there were only 2 or 3 and Purple Rain was choice #1 (doesn't hurt that the first time they saw El was in the rain).  It just all came together.    I think labels/managers recognize the power of that show and how it can increase streams.  I don't know how much money that's worth (I know Prince has a higher royalty on Spotify than most artists).   Kate Bush is alive and was a fan of the show before they asked her so she was alright with it.  Hard to tell if Prince was still alive.  I think he might have said yes because of how it was used.

Every Friday between 5pm an 5:30 I do the Friday Getaway on 107one, where we play uptempo songs for the start of the weekend.  This Friday we're doing the Spoiler-Free Stranger Things Friday Getaway, playing a bunch of music from the finale (plus Kate Bush, which was in every other episode).   Prince, The Pixies, Lansldie, Sweet Jane,   not gonna play The Trooper, however.  That one doesn't quite fit our station.

I can still only hear out of one ear, but I am still on the air.  This might be permanent or take a very long time to recover from.  Whatever the hell it is.     At least the Vertigo is fading a bit.  But I have to work from home all week.  I tried going in Monday and in the middle of the day I hit a wall.  I had to run my arm along the wall to not fall down.  Infection of some kind, right?  All will be well in the end, right?    Working at home sounds great when there is a snowstorm, or maybe for a day, but man it gets old in a hurry.  It's boring.  I want to be out there in the world.

I wonder how much money Kate Bush has made?  The use of that one song has probably made her millions in new money.

ChatGPT says industry estimates said she made over $2M in 2022.    She owns the rights.

I've heard Billy Squier makes a lot of money b/c his songs were sampled in hip hop.
