So here’s the thing about Marner. He’s a good player, but even if you can get him to waive his NMC, how could you trade him without retaining salary. Let’s say the Leafs say, ok, we want to trade him as a salary dump to sign someone else in his place. But who would actually give up significant assets to acquire him? If he was a free agent with no assets required to be given up, would anyone sign up for $11mm per?

New Utah owner might want to make a splash to make some noise for their first season, otherwise it is going to be tough I imagine but who knows.

Speaking of Utah, you can now vote on their team name on an official survey that the franchise is conducting.

I get why the NHL would want a franchise in Utah though, season ticket sales are easy to come by. You can sell season ticket packages in 12 packs because you'd have to buy one ticket for each of your wives.

Keefe out as Leafs coach. No surprise there.

Canucks looked dead at 4-1 down late in the 2nd last night, almost as dead at 4-2 down midway through the 3rd. But a 3-goal in 5 minute flurry out of nowhere gave them them the 5-4. Held Edmonton to 16 shots on net for the game.

no way i pay marner $11 million.  he's a passenger when the going gets tough and a whiner.

The Oilers-Canucks series has been gripping. Too bad so late for Eastern viewers. Going with Packard over Skinner had to be done. Canucks fans are generally pleased, as the team has outperformed expectations this season and even with a 3rd string goalie are deadlocked with the Oilers. BUT there are some growing rumblings about the relatively low production of Petersson. 1G 3A 4Pts in 10 games.

Hronek is pointless in 10 playoff games. Finished the season with 48 points in 81 games. Not much different pace than the 38 points in 60 games with the Wings the season before. So he is what we thought he was. Didn't really take a big step forward this year after all, offensively.

i think they got a really good return for hronek.  if they didnt, think about the cap crunch they would be in now.

otoh, maybe they dont sign holl, extend maata, and trade for petry so there's that...

Vancouver takes 3-2 series lead with goal with 30 seconds to go. Series has been amazing. Five one-goal games. Two game winners in the final minute, one in OT.

How intense is game 7 going to be?

I want the winner of this series to win the Cup.      Canada needs this !

Intense tonight in Vancouver, but don’t expect a riot win or lose. This city waits for Game 7s of SCFs to do that.

Way more pressure on Edmonton (and Kenny) tonight  Skinner in net or back to Pickard? I think Skinner

Losing Brock Boeser to blood clot issues is huge loss for Vancouver. He has been their best player in playoffs with several key goals.

I don’t think Canada cares about whether a Canadian team wins or not. In fact Calgarians are actively rooting against., and Leafs or Habs fans won’t feel any better if the Oilers or Canucks win the Cup instead of NYR or Dallas.  Canadians follow their local team and only care about Canada in international competitions. There are always plenty of Canadians on winning Cup team anyways.

I definitely think some Canadians care, just not with the passion with their own team.  Probably similar to what I see with myself and a lot of folks I know with the Big Ten.  I actively root against OSU (Maple Leafs) and if MSU or UofM aren't involved, I hope to see the Big Ten team (every other Canadian team) win, but I'm not losing any sleep if it doesn't happen.

It’s most likely a moot point.  Neither of these teams can handle Dallas.

Edmonton has no goaltending.  All of 3 of them are very questionable which makes Vancouver’s inability to capitalize look very suspect.

This Dallas mix of established vets along with really skilled young stars is a tough mix to beat.   Heiskanen, Robertson, Johnston, Harley, and Oettinger are a fantastic young core.

There are already rumors he's gone to Columbus after this season too lol

If it is true, I guess he didn't want the blame for when McDavid and Drai don't re-sign

just as an exercise, where would they go?  who could afford them in a place they would actually want to play?

No idea honestly, was just wild speculation (and a half joke) on my part!  If there were any sort of indications it could be possible I would expect teams to try to unload space the next season or two to try to make it possible.  Someone like the Canucks could be intriguing with some money coming off the books for them.
